I most definitely do not question Ovi's intentions and perfectly understand that she's only trying to be there for her childhood friend, Arjun.. But she knows she's wrong, she feels guilty for going along with his lie if the crying scenes are any proof. What really impacted me was when Purvi discovers this and begs Arjun to tell her otherwise. The fact that even then, that wasn't enough for Ovi to tell Arjun that enough was enough.
Clearly, there's no one else that can knock some sense in that man's head other than Ovi at this point. Everyone claims that Ovi is being a good friend to Arjun. My question is, if she's trying to be a good friend, why isn't she doing what a good friend should? I don't believe supporting your best friend in something that would negatively impact them and their life is being a good friend. You're helping them make destructive choices.
Obviously, now, it's too late for Ovi to come clean. If she were to do so now, she'd be a bad friend for doing that. The reason for that is because this a very big deal. This isn't her information to share. This should be done by Arjun. In fact, it was never Ovi's responsibility to tell Purvi or anyone about Arjun's illness. But it was her responsibility to be a good friend to Arjun the day he called her, begging her to help him. She should have helped him, yes.. but not by supporting him in the lie. But by giving him a lambi chodha lecture about being sensible. The characters often are seen giving these long moral lectures but they never do when they're needed to..
Arjun has 2 months if the operation isn't successful.. These are the 2 months he should spend making everybody's lives better, erasing the misunderstandings of the past 20 years so everybody near and dear to him doesn't remember him as someone they despised. These two months should be spent getting to know his daughter, attempting to create that father-daughter bond Pari clearly needs. Does he not realize that by letting her continue to believe what she does of him, he's jeopardizing her future? How will she be able to trust others in her life when her own father supposedly cheated her and her own mother.. And let's face it, he really is cheating them this time by keeping such an important fact about himself from them.
He can tell Ovi, who he calls a dear friend and doesn't care how heartbroken she'll be with the news but he can't tell Purvi, the love of his life? This is why these characters are fictional..
