It's true . I can't wrap my head around how Ekta processes, how or why she does what she does. Thank God.
But here's a guess at why Purvi has been the worst attacked person and ArVI the worst attacked couple in any soap I have ever watched, save one. And why even sweet Soham was ruined beyond redemption.
Ekta is a genius at recognizing good talent. The actors she brings on are extremely good for the most part. She is also a genius at recognizing chemistry between couples. So many of the jodis she creates, just sizzle. I am sure she is proud of her record. She should be.
But when things go awry, Ekta seems to go awry as well. A mature satisfied Director/Producer should just try to correct the mistake - to make lemonade out of lemons. Alas, herein lies the problem. When unexpected things happen in her shows, rather than try to adjust and correct, it seems that Ekta is hell bent on making it work the way she wanted it to, and vilifying the characters who surprised her. In addition she takes it out on the viewers who see something else good happening but not what Ekta's original intentions were.
Let's take PR from the first 18 year leap. Let's take ARVI and Purvi and Soham.
I think that Ekta's intentions were for Arjun and Ovi to be together. She brought Purvi in to be the antagonist and the 3rd of a triangle. For once she didn't expect or see coming the explosive chemistry between Purvi and Arjun. She kept trying to make Ovi and Arjun work, but they just aren't good together. ARVI are fantastic, and everyone recognizes that. Try as she would, even Ekta couldn't deny the sizzle between them. But recognizing that would be to admit she made a mistake with Arovi. It seems mistakes can't be made and come hell or high water, Ekta will try to join Arjun and Ovi. Except she knows she can't. Even she sees the chemistry between ARVI. But ...she will do everything til her last breath in the show to try to disrupt it, to cause the people who love them to suffer, to make the characters suffer, cause she's just damn mad it didn't work the way she wanted.
The same goes for Soham. I believe that Ekta intended for Soham to be redeemed through not only ARchana but also in the jodi she tried to create between Soham and Gauri. Except it wasn't there. Gauri (actress) was too new at acting, and definitely not the right choice for Soham. Almost no one liked it. Very few even liked Gauri's stiff know it all character. So...oh dear, there was another mistake. Rather than move Gauri on and let Soham mature and change through other means, revenge had to be taken again. Gauri was unceremoniously dumped and murdered and Soham was turned into a drunken idiot. Ekta would show them !! How dare they not be the charming couple she had imagined.
It's sad really. A genius is recognized not only for vision and know how, but how they handle mistakes. A truly excellent director / producer could turn the mistakes into triumphs. Ekta still choose the actors. They are all brilliant. She could have made Arvi the shining stars they should be, next to but not overshadowing ARMAN. She could have redeemed the beloved Soham in so many ways and been shown to be brilliant herself.
Instead, it seems, Ms. Etka has chosen the way of anger, retribution, vindictiveness, and pettiness. I would love for her to prove me wrong, and make something beautiful out of the mess that's been created.
