Bollywood stars hit town for Saifta

THIRTY of Bollywood's most famous and glamorous stars will be jetting into King Shaka International Airport this week and several will be performing on stage at the gala South Africa India Film and Television Awards (Saifta) at the Durban ICC Arena on Friday.

Local dancers will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to perform with some of Bollywood's best dancers, including Madhuri Dixit and Priyanka Chopra.

The sequences are being choreographed by renowned choreographer Geeta Kapoor, who is also a judge on the famous Dance India Dance reality TV show.

Here's a glance at what the stars will be doing at Saifta on Friday:

l Priyanka Chopra: Actress, singer and former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, who has become one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses, will be dancing to Desi Girl.

l Madhuri Dixit: "Dancing queen" Madhuri Dixit, who holds the record for the highest number of Best Actress Nominations (13) at the Filmfare Awards, will dance to Ghagra.

l Siddarth Malhotra: Siddarth will perform with local dancers to a medley of acts from his debut box-office success film, Student of the Year.

Ranveer Singh: This Bollywood actor will dance and give a recital dedicated to 100 Years of Indian Cinema.

l Shamali Kholgade: Prepare for an explosive mix of Indian and South African talent as local Durban diva Karen van Pletsen sings with Bollywood singer-songwriter Shamalli Kholgade. They will sing Pareeshan from the film Ishaqzades.

l Elli Avram and Manish Paul: Gorgeous Bollywood actress and model Elli Avram will dance with TV anchor Manish Paul.

They both starred in Micky Virus and their performance will be integrated with the film on stage.

Manish Paul also hosts Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, which is the Indian version of Dancing With the Stars. Micky Virus is about a hacker who hacks into IDs. He is hosting a segment in the show where he hacks into the guests' minds and finds out what they are thinking! He and Elli will also be doing a short dance to one of the songs from the film.

l Three TV couples, Amir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh, TV actress who starred in Kayamath and Dastaan; Rithvik Dhanjani and Asha Negi, as well as Ravi Dubey and Sargan Mehta, will be performing romantic dance routines at Saifta.

l Popular local comedian Aaron McIlroy is so happy that Bollywood is at long last coming to him! He will perform a hilarious "Bollywood wannabe" act.

A highlight of the evening will be a fashion show by David Tlale and Durban couturier Haroun Hansrot. Hansrot's Saifta collection will echo the elegance, sophistication and red-carpet look of the event, which is very much his signature style.

If you haven't already, best you get going and get your tickets to Saifta! The inaugural Saifta takes place at the Durban ICC Arena on Friday. Tickets, are available from Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers.

Prices range from R500 to R3 500 for VVIP tables with the stars.
