My dear Kalapi,

I am glad someone agrees with me, for I was in momentary expectation of being burnt in effigy for unbelievable callousness!😉

Kesha dear,

Your last sentence gladdens my 60+ heart like nothing else in this thread. You are very lucky to have such a watchful and caring mother - even if she occasionally has to literally beat sense into you - and please tell her so from me.

I am also sure, Kesha, that your plan for disposing of Onir and Ovi would be a civilised one!

@shyamala aunty, thanks for your comment.
Yes I agree that in media business gossip and drama sells. I even agree that maybe some fans might have gone overboard, but are zee people so publicity hungry that they can take such route.
I am one of those ArViian who wants onir ovi to be out of ArVi's way but hunger strike its too much.
And even I am against hunger strike, and even if I think of doing so then my mum is going to use her belan.

I will tell her that, and indeed a very watchful and strict mother. But thats how mothers are meant to be.
I have no plan of disposing onir ovi by killing them or turning them into villian. Its for the CV's to think and for me to wait and watch that maybe ArVi will unite.

Archana, sweetheart,

Don't clobber me for giving unwelcome advice, but I will say what I always say to my favourite girls: Relax, and don't get your blood pressure up for all this.

I am sure Zee must have received a bunch of mails threatening, or announcing a hunger strike to get an Arjun-Purvi reunion. Once they had that, how on earth can anyone expect a commercial channel to pass up this manna from Heaven? They must have rejoiced at their morning staff meeting and got cracking. Archana, that is a dog eat dog world, and it is futile to expect any circumspection, sensitiveness or responsible behaviour from them. Why, if it were not for the threat of being jailed, I am sure they would put the name of every rape victim in the Breaking News.

Why, even the moderators in this forum took this hunger strike idea so seriously that they warned against making fun of the strikers (if indeed there were really any). You should have read them the riot act too, for tacitly encouraging such ideas, instead of scotching them firmly.

Finally, as I wrote to Kesha, it is for the parents of these enthusiasts, at least those who are not yet adults, to pull them up in no uncertain terms. Why do they not know what their kids are up to? It is another matter that teens these days are far clued up about many things than I was at that age, and probably would not listen to their parents anyway. If so, you need not bother about them either.

As for those who are adults, why should anyone else worry about them? They are, at least in theory, capable to fending for themselves. In fact, I would have expected some letters written in blood, a time honoured practice, but there seem to have been none.

Finally, coming to the chap who tried to get fresh with a girl caller, he should be publicly named and shamed, so that he never ever thinks of repeating it. I would also suggest his getting a clean mundan, and a ride on a donkey, with his face blackened to match his morals, round the Zee premises, but somehow I do not see such appropriate justice being meted out to the creep.

I think you are too harsh on the CVs, who probably work to impossible deadlines, with the Damocles sword of the TRPs always hanging over their heads as they bumble along in a thick fog of half baked ideas.

I will end as I began: Take it easier, and do not burst a blood vessel over a new item which was probably welcomed by both those chiefly concerned: Zee News, and those wanting to stage a hunger strike. Both would have welcomed the publicity, though for different reasons - the channel for TRPs, and the fans because they feel it would help their cause. It won't, but there is no way they will believe that.

And as for you, if you think Zee, or PR, are going to lose viewers because of this stunt, no, Archana, they are not. Today, when people stand below a high rise waiting to see a suicidal man jump to his death, and hoot in disappointment when finally does not, what does a hunger strike matter, even if it is a real one?

Shyamala

Hello Shyamala Didi! *sighs* I guess I do stand properly chastised...I do feel a little sheepish at reacting so strongly. I think the continual tweets about the hunger strike, which is, to my knowledge, completely false, combined with what that creep did to one of the girls really had me seeing red. Especially the 2nd part. Whatever anyone may think of the success or futility of calling into the channel, the channel does provide the contact and encourage feedback. So when a viewer calls in, especially a young girl who sounds young to state her opinion on a show, that is NOT an invitation to misbehave towards her. Ridiculous.

In the real world, am sure nobody cares at the end of the day what the viewers want. The show itself is a testament to that. By the way, the TRPs in PR are definitely and unmistakably sinking. Goes to show that ruining a very promising young couple, at the end of the day, has not done them much good. They landed back at the 2.5- 2.7 range anyway. In fact, if Im not mistaken, I feel they were higher at this time last year when the romantic tension between Arjun and Purvi in the workplace was building up. I will of course not compare with Sushant and Ankita- those TRPs were off the charts. But am stating that the plan of separating ARVI and joining them to others hasnt done much to refresh or up the shows TRPs after all at least at the moment.

Shyamala Aunty,

Once again wonderful post and so well explained! I could never really get my thoughts to be put down that coherently in a post, and most of the times, this non-restrain and raging jargon gets me reported :P I agree with every word you mention in the post.

What I would like to add is that ARVI fan base is a huge number on the whole. But they are also divided on many terms and even ages. While some of them on this forum or on this thread are more reasonable about wanting an ARVI re-union but not taking it so seriously as to go on hunger strikes, there is a section that is a bit too involved in the fictional couple, so much so that they do not separate real from reel. Again, just a disclaimer I am not mocking anyone, just stating what I observed.

There was a time right after the wedding fiasco, some girl had written a post abotu how she had her exams and could not eat, sleep or study because she was that upset about it. A lot of very sweet people on this forum wrote to her to take it lightly and not get too involved, but I don't know how much it could have soothed her, considering she was so overcome with sorrow about that one episode. Now in such a case, it is not Zee, not CV;s not anyone who is going to help her case, but her parents. As with any child, parents are responsible. I am sure her parents may have taken notice and soothed her down and she may be out of it in no time.

This is just one case, but you can imagine that there may have been people who may have written to Zee really threatening to go on hunger strikes. Corporate organizations and powerhouse media companies really cash in on anything that gives them a chance to showcase their popularity. I don't think anyone can blame them, as they are not doing social service. It is not their responsibility at all.

Now some people think Zee is mocking them for being ARVI fans and being insensitive, and being very mean or pathetic, but there were a few posts that were lamenting on how good this was for ARVI re-union because that means they are getting noticed. Some people were genuinely happy that Zee tweeted because this meant ARVI was important, they were being recognized, the fandom was being recognized and "hopefully" this would mean that CV;s would be pressurized to bring them together. So honestly, there are 2 different types of ARVI fans too, so I don't see how Zee is at fault. There is one section being upset they are doing this cheap publicity, while one is happy at the attention and publicity, so who is Zee to please really?

I just hope parents take note and help their kids out to disentangle real from reel and take the show for what it is, entertainment. I may have made fun of the hunger strike, but I definitely do not want any kids out there to fast and hurt themselves over any couple or character on this show or anywhere else.

My dear Archana,

The analysis of the TRPs is an art even more arcane than black magic, and there is no point bothering with them. They were at 3.5 a couple of weeks ago, when Archana was going into a coma, if I was not wrongly informed.I might well be wrong, for I only bother about what I like or not.

The point, however, is that the target audience in India is a highly undefinable commodity, with only one common denominator, that they seem to favour over the top melodrama. Otherwise, a truly superb, 26 part show like Yashraj TV's Powder, which was better than any show that I have seen anywhere in the world, would not have languished at a TRP of 1.2 or less.

The one thing I would stress is that if Arjun and Purvi had not separated themselves, there would have been two major side- benefits. One, the show would have ended LONG ago. Two, we would all have saved ourselves a LOT of a precious and non-renewable commodity. Our time. Now get busy saving whatever you can of yours (after you have finished reading this!😉)

Pari dear,

Every time I write to you, I note afresh what a lovely name you have.

Thanks for the compliments, and as for the restraint that you like so much, well, at my age you will probably be wiser than I am now!

I agree completely that it is for the parents to make sure their kids do not get into such disruptive hangups, whether they talk them out of it or, as Kesha expected her mom to do, use a belan (or, for me, a stout slipper)! But for that , they have to keep close track of their kid(s), and not spend all their time watching PR themselves!!😉
