just wanted to post a comment I put on Ovi's AT. :))
Ovi's character has come miles from where she started.
From the spoilt, tantrum throwing teenager who was brought up in luxury and wanted everything at the tip of her isharas, has simply transformed into a beautiful, mature, and understanding young woman who has prioritized her life in the right way.
Kudos to her, after having been brought up without a mother, with a father who was absent in wife's memories most of the time, a family that has never really warmed up to her ( Sulo, Archana, Damo), and a twin sister who cares more about the new step sister than her, a husband who is more into his ex-flame than giving it all to his family, a mother who has only sung praises of adopted daughter and never really cared for Ovi;s feelings, a father who ultimately failed to stand up for her in front of Purvi and Archana's pleas.
Through all these unsupportive people, she has grown all by herself, understood life, handled situations, worked through a humiliating marriage, gone from depression and drinking to a nurturing mother, all by herself. Only Savita has truly been there for her poti from day one.
She has adapted to a very different lifestyle in India, she has given up her career to work on her marriage and raise her daughter, she is single handedly managing Pari without househelp or even any help from husband, she is strong and understanding about her nemesis (Purvi's) loss of baby, she has put so much effort into letting bygones be bygones ( even though they clearly are not bygones for the hubby). She doesn't throw tantrums, she is calm and composed in face of tragedy, she is introspective on things she needs to apologize for, she has insight into her own weakness and works on it, she has immense respect for elder people and looks after father in law like a doll. She has her sanskaars in place, despite being from Canada ( as Ekta thinks people growing up abroad are not as sanskaari as people in india :P LOL)/
I am simply out of words to describe the personal growth this character has shown in this serial. All others have gone down the drain, but she is the only one who has been seeing a growth.
Today;s episode she looked lovely. Loved her understanding for the useless husband. She is so in love with this man, she is giving him her all, including blind faith and trust, despite having been cheated in the past. She is giving even her nemesis second chances ( when she asked purvi to change Pari's clothes despite the incidents that would make any mom wary to hand her kid to this lady) and overall just being a better person than both those two could ever manage to be.
IT is purvi who is unable to handle stress situations. Her way of handling them is either giving up whatever or whoever she can last minute, or running away, or swapping illegally, or lying and cheating...It is her who has no idea how to deal with life in the right way.
Ovi earlier could not deal with it, when she was committing suicide. (with her situation of mother shoving wedding of her fiance in her face, father more lost in beauty of mother, sister telling her to accept true love of fiance with the girl she hates most, life being turned upside down and fiance showing not an inch of support or even keeping his friendship on forefront) but that time, I did not see Purvi concerned about her at all. She did not once ask Arjun to go and spend time with Ovi until she got better and to look after her instead of flirting in the rains. So now this concern truly boggles me. I wonder if it is guilt for having first taken her fiance from her.
It is Ovi who has come far from the suicidal tendencies, to handle life in the right manner. By prioritizing and by making mistakes ( drinking) but learning from them. She does not try to be God, or try to solve anybody's life and problems. She handles herself and her family and that is enough for any living human being.
It's not hard to see why so many of us love her. She is real, and she is the true star of a mucky twisted show for me. She has shown the strenght and perseverance of Savita, who never sat and cried buckets in bad situations, but worked her way out of it, be it a drunkard husband, a life of living in chawl and single handedly earning for family, raising kids and giving even the grandkids parvarish that mom could not give. Savita for all her cruel ways with Archana or her flaws and insecurities, was a true fighter in terms of dealing with adversities. She dealt with her son;s death, her daughter's rocky abusive marriage, her useless husband, her evil samdhan (Rasika), her bahu's sole interest in maika, and what not. I do not redeem her for what she has done in the past with Archana or her loud garish behavior overall, but I truly love her what dealing with life with a stable mind and strong heart. That is what Ovi has gotten from her.
None of the sacrificial mahaanta from mother, and none of the devdaas and foolish in love from father. She did get a bit of the drinking chaska from granddad, but thankfully quickly averted before it was too late. She thankfully does not even have the "sympathy gaining" tactics of Purvi nor the obsessive need for control over people. She does not cry helplessly in times of trouble, but instead knows how to think straight ( atleast now) and calmly figure out a solution.
I love that she has changed in her attitude towards Arjun too. She could not take him falling for another girl earlier, but now chooses to realize that he will always hold a special place for Purvi in his heart and Ovi can do nothing about it. She silently accepts this as a part of her marriage. She chooses to trust him, even though he has given her no reason to do so, but I think it is a part of guilt for having made that deal, that she chooses faith over mistrust. She wants to keep this marriage together at all costs.
I love how she handles Punni too now. She has learnt that Punni is not one to be trusted, and instead chooses to ignore her or confront the person straight on. I like that she is someone Punni is never sure of, and that she knows how to pull the strings on people who try to mess with her. Purvi on the other hand, almost seems dimwitted for giving benefit of doubt to Punni and letting her in good books all the time. Ovi has none of that, but instead a kind of inherent street smartness from Savita about people. (except for her Arjun) :P
So many facets to a beautiful and always evolving character. Shruti plays all these nuances of a growing character so well, from teenager, to tantrums to insecure, to desperate, to depressed, to angry and now a mature calm person. The only redeeming factor of this show, is Ovi. Gray, but more loveable, likeable and relatable than any other character. Love her or hate her, but you cannot ignore her! :)
