Normally, I would treasure sleep. However, at around 2 am I realized that I just could NOT sleep. The fact that I was going back to Mumbai deprived me of my treasured sleep. I woke up and tried to move, but found myself being held on to by Arjun as if I was a teddy bear. I smiled and pushed his hair out of his face.
"Arjunā¦" I murmured as an attempt to gently wake up. However, it was a failed attempt as he didn't even make a noise. I started kicking and shaking a bit more violently as an attempt to wake him up, but in response he moved and held onto me even tighter.
I sighed and snuggled into the crook of his neck as I tried to go back to sleep. Normally, just being in his arms would be the equivalent of singing me to sleep with a lullaby, however not tonight. Today was an amazing day ā I doubt any girl would be able to go to sleep after experiencing what happened to me. From the rose garden to the Mumbai surprise, what happened to me today is like something you hear about in fairytales.
I stared at Arjun's angelic sleeping form and planted a kiss on his forehead. His lips went from a stern frown to a small smile.
"Arjun, are you awake?" I asked, a bit louder than my last attempts. He opened one of his eyes and loosened his grip on me by letting go of one arm's hold. He covered my mouth with his hand and mumbled a "go back to sleep."
I removed his hand from my mouth after much struggling. "But I can't sleep." I whined.
"Why?" he asked, pulling me closer to him and resting his head on my shoulder.
"Because I'm excited!" I wailed and started my kicking and shaking again. I thought Arjun would be annoyed at this point, but instead, he was trying hard to fall asleep.
I pushed him off of me and held him up by his shoulders. I knew there was something wrong just by how down he looked.
"Kya huaa Arjun?" I asked while transitioning from lying down to sitting up against the bed frame.
"I miss aai." he simply said in a glum tone.
When he said that, I felt like crap. After our picnic date, all I could talk about was how excited I was to see aai and aaji, that I completely pushed aside how Arjun felt. My eyes welled up in tears, but I successfully pushed them back by blinking furiously. I took hold of Arjun's hand and stroked it with my thumb.
"It's okay babe.. you're going to meet her again one day when the time is right. For now, she's watching over you and taking care of you. It's just, you can't see her⦠but she's there and she always will be." I said in hopes that my words would make him feel just the slightest bit better. In response, he rested his head on my lap and looked up at me. I gave him a smile in return as I stroked his hair.
He eventually fell asleep to the sound of the rain and I decided not to bother him anymore. I pulled out my phone and decided to play some meaningless games. One hand was on Arjun's face, the other was gripping my phone.
1 hour that seemed like 1 eternity passed by before Arjun woke up again.
"Kya hua?" I asked again, looking at him with sad eyes.
"I just can't sleep." he said along with a mischievous smile. I laughed a bit too loud after what he said, causing him to imitate my laugh. Arjun then sat up and rested his head on my shoulder.
Arjun grasped onto one of my hands and held on tightly with both of his. He then gave me a peck on my forehead causing me to close my eyes shut.
"What are you doing?" he asked me, looking at me as if I was crazy ā which I was.
"Pinch me."
"Why?"
"To check if this isn't all just a dream and I'm actually married to you."
Arjun's response was a chuckle which instantly brought a smile to my face.
"Yet you say I'm the cheesy one?" Arjun questioned me, with a smile plastered on his face.
"Are you calling me a hypocrite?" I asked, while grabbing a pillow from behind us and hitting him with it.
He rolled his eyes in reply and suggested we start packing our stuff. Another hour that seemed like an eternity. You see, I HATE cleaning.
Arjun pushed me towards my room and motioned for me to get ready.
"I can't go in my pajamas because?" I challenged.
"Because those aren't even pajamas ā more like a seductive night gown and I don't want any guys to get the wrong idea." he said with a pout.
I gave him a playful slap and freshened up as Arjun went into his respective room to get ready as well. Once again, I was the first one out, so I made a mental note to yell at Arjun about this on the plane. Arjun finally made his grand entrance with a sneeze, which of course made me angry.
"Do you have a cold? Because I swear to God that if you do ā"
"I'm fine."
I placed my hand on his forehead, then moved down to his cheeks to his neck.
"You're warm."
"Maybe because you're near me." Arjun said, while moving closer.
"We're going to miss the flight if you keep flirting." I said with a pout, but secretly hoped he'd continue this in the taxi.
"I'm going to continue this in the taxi." Arjun stated. Well, ladies and gentleman ā that's my mind reader husband.
/////////////////////////////////
"Arjun, I'm tired."
"Maybe because you didn't sleep all night."
"I was excited!"
"And now you're tired."
I made a face at Arjun and snuggled into his chest. We were already at the airport, all checked in and everything. He rubbed my back as I tried to get some rest and ignore the hustle and bustle of the noisy airport. Arjun's warmth was like a drug for me with a side effect of drowsiness. Right when I was about to fall asleep, I felt a sharp contraction in my abdomen.
I released myself from Arjun's embrace unwillingly and held onto my stomach tightly.
"Purvi..?"
"My stomach hurts Arjun."
"Are you cramping again?"
"Yes."
"I told you to bring the medicine!"
"I didn't think I would need it!"
Arjun pulled me into his lap which naturally made my head rest on his shoulder.
"Arjun⦠people are staring."
"So?"
"Remember the last timeā¦"
"That old man was just single and cranky."
"I know I packed some extra pills somewhere, I just don't know where I put it.."
"Can you think harder because I feel like I'm going to DIEEE?"
"Wow, didn't know that Mother Nature gave you more crankiness than usual this month."he mumbled to himself, thinking I wouldn't hear.
"WHAT'D YOU SAY?" I exclaimed while holding up my hand ' ready to slap him.
Arjun held on to me even tighter and quickly said, "nothing my angel whom i love so much," in one breath.
"That's what I thought." I said in a tone filled with attitude. Oh dear, maybe Arjun was right on the whole cranky thing'
Arjun continued to rub my back until I fell into a light slumber, right there in his arms. By the time I woke up, Arjun was waking up also which led me to assume that he took a nap as well.
"What time is it?" I asked while yawning.
"It is'" Arjun began, "8 AM!"
"WHAT?"
We both pushed aside everyone in line at the help desk and asked whether or not the flight to Mumbai has already been taken off. Of course, she replied with the answer we didn't want to hear. The flight was already well on its way. After much arguing and a bit of attitude from my side, the lady at the help desk agreed to let us take the next flight.
I glumly walked back to where we were sitting before and sat down. Arjun sat down next to me and gave my knee a tight squeeze.
I looked up at him and yelled, "THIS IS YOUR FAULT!"
"You're the one who fell asleep!"
"YOU'RE THE ONE THAT DIDN'T WAKE ME UP!"
"Purvi' lower your voice, people are watching!"
"WHO CARES? WHY DON'T THEY MAKE OUR LIVES INTO A TV SHOW?! THEY MIGHT AS WELL NAME IT 'PAVITRA RISHTA' WHILE THEY'RE AT IT!"
Instead of being offended or embarrassed, Arjun laughed. He handed me 2 white pills.
"What's this?" I asked, in a calmer tone and lower volume than earlier.
"Your medicine."
I smiled sheepishly and took it with a water bottle that Arjun handed to me. After gulping what seemed like half of the bottle, I closed the lid and returned it to him.
I eventually drifted off into another slumber ' a deeper one. I didn't know what was going on though ' I felt like I was in sleep paralysis. I was unable to move or speak or even open my eyes, but I could feel and hear everything that was going on around me in reality. For example, I felt Arjun put his chin on top of my head, leading me to be more engulfed into his embrace. Then, I heard some lady talking to Arjun which immediately made me go into posessive mode, but of course ' I couldn't do anything about.
"What a beautiful couple you two are! God bless you both."
"Thank you'" Arjun said in a low voice, making the butterflies flutter again in my stomach. This made me remember how shy he used to be. All he would do was follow baba's instructions and that's it. It's like he wasn't even his own person, which cause him to be a wee bit more khadoos than normal. While he says that I've taught him to be more crazy and fun-loving, I think that he's taught me to be more calm and aware of life ' just in trivial everyday matters.
When I "woke up" again, the cramps weren't as severe, but still there. However, this time ' I didn't dare let go of Arjun.
"What time is our new flight?" I asked in what seemed like a whisper.
"10:30." Arjun responded, mocking my hushed tone.
"What time is it now?"
"9:30."
"Can we go on the plane now?"
"I guess so." Arjun started to stand up, but noticed that I was still holding on to his arm, making him curve his lips upward into a smile.
I got up as well and we started walking towards the plane, but my mind got diverted when I saw a food kiosk. I dragged Arjun's arm towards the kiosk and picked out at least 7 chocolate bars. As I walked off while eating one of the delicious delicacies Arjun bought for me, I could see Arjun bargaining for a discount with the kiosk manager.
After visiting 5 stores, we finally reached the line of the entrance to the plane. I turned to look at Arjun and I saw him laughing.
In response, Arjun kissed the corner of my lips, then moved on to my actual lips. After those few seconds of perfection, I looked at him with curiosity.
"What was that for?"
"You had chocolate on your lips," he said with a wink.
I blushed and avoided eye contact, as always.
"You taste like chocolate too."
"Oh my God, STOOOP!"
As we entered, the flight attendant asked for our passports.
"Purvi.. the passports?" Arjun asked.
"Oh right' I have them somewhere'." I said as I was digging through my purse. "Errr' are you sure you gave them to me? I mean maybe YOU forgot them you know'"
Arjun massaged his temple as he responded with, "Purvi, clearly you have them. I remember you making fun of my passport photo."
"Are you sure that wasn't when we were COMING to Canada?"
"Yes Purvi, I'm sure. Did you lose them again?"
"Yeah."
"We'll be back," Arjun said to the flight attendant as he grabbed my wrist and dragged us out of line.
"Okay, this is NOT my fault."
Arjun sighed and said, "let's check the lost and found and get friendly with them, I'm sure we're going to be meeting them often."
I followed alongside Arjun while trying to think of a clever response. I felt a head ache coming on for thinking too much, so I let Arjun finally win a battle. Of course, we ended up finding our passports at the lost and found. Apparently, I dropped it when I was throwing my tantrum over my cramps, but I remember no such thing.
Along the way, we passed by the chocolate stall again and I snuck over there.
"Do you have any special chocolate that stops people from being cranky because my husband over there is having major attitude problems?" I asked, trying my best to hold in my laughter.
The employee handed me some heart-shaped chocolates and informed me that those chocolates were equivalent to a love potion. My eyes went wide with fear and I nodded as he kept talking, but I eventually just slapped my money down on the counter and scurried away.
I saw Arjun not too ahead of me, but he still hadn't noticed that I was gone. Or so I thought. I've always wanted to play hide and seek at an airport' why not now? I quickly got a black marker out of my bag and wrote 'P.K.' with a heart around it on the pink foil that kept the chocolate fresh and pretty-looking. I squinted my eyes and prepared myself to make the best throw of my life. I threw it and ran behind a big man who I assumed to be a tourist.
Arjun clearly saw the chocolate ' it landed a few feet in front of him. He looked around to see who could have possibly thrown it and shrugged his shoulders. He bent down to pick it up and saw the 'P.K.' on it. I heard his precious laughter and it instantly brought a smile to my face. I noticed how he was about to unwrap the chocolate and eat it, but he stopped half way and held it in his hand. I assumed it was because he knew how much I love chocolate and how much I would hurt him if he didn't share.
I pulled out a chocolate wrapped in red foil this and wrote 'P.K.' with a smiley face and left it in the current spot I was out. I shouted out, "ARJUN!" Then, I ran into the food court and pretended to be a normal customer. I could see from my spot that Arjun followed my lead and picked up the red chocolate. He looked around to see where I could be and started walking towards the food court. Nice going Purvi, of course he's going to find you at the FOOD court! I pulled out a chocolate wrapped in orange and signed 'P.K.' with a heart and angry face and threw it at Arjun's face.
Once again, I ran for my life and found myself at a tourist shop where they sold clothing necessities. I hit in a shirt rack and kept on the lookout for Arjun. I got out a chocolate wrapped in blue foil and wrote 'P.K' with a smiley face and a tongue sticking out. I saw Arjun walk into the tourist shop and get pestered by an employee to buy something. I discreetly stepped out from the clothing rack, threw the piece of chocolate at him and ran some more. Of course, more cramps just had to interrupt my aura of fun and happiness. I felt as if Arjun wasn't anywhere near me, so I started walking.
A few minutes later, I felt a warm pair of lips collide with my cheek and a stubbly chin rest on my shoulder, making my face turn pink. I turned around and wasn't surprised to see Arjun standing there cutely holding on to the chocolates.
"Your masti is going to kill me one day ' a senior almost ran over me with his wheelchair while I was chasing you!" Arjun exclaimed while chuckling.
"I was bored," I said with a yawn.
"' and now my baby is tired." Arjun finished. "You've taken like 7 naps today and you're still yawning?"
"Side effects I guess," I said with a shrug. I went closer to him and hid my face in his chest and he wrapped his hands around my waist.
"Have you ever realized what a weird pair we are?" Arjun said as he rested his chin on top of my head.
"A long time ago hun' you're a bit late." I said as I smiled to myself. As always, being in Arjun's arms is like a universal medicine for me. No matter how horrible I'm feeling, just being close to him would bring me back to a state of neutrality. "I love you," I mumbled into his chest.
"I love you too meri bacchi." he said as he pulled apart from the embrace and grabbed my hand instead. "We can't miss this flight, I don't want to flirt with that woman at the counter again," he said as if he was about to gag.
I giggled and couldn't help but stare at Arjun as we began to walk back into line to board the plane. The memories of our first meeting, business conferences, love confessions, seperations, and chawl days started replaying in my mind. The event that had the most effect on me was of course the separation. As we stood in line, I held on to Arjun's arm tightly and squinted my eyes closed. Arjun noticed and he stroked my hair with his hand. It was a long wait in line, but it sure was comforting.
/////////////////////////
"Aruuu!" I whined, waking Arjun up from his nap.
"What?" he mumbled with his eyes still closed.
"I'm hungry and this plane has nothing to eat!" I said, on the verge of tears. I loved food and Arjun equally. Whenever I didn't have one of them, it'd make me feel empty and lonely.
"NOTHING TO EAT? Purvi, there's peanuts and ice cream and cupcakes and sweets, why don't you go eat those?" Arjun said, shifting to the other side of his seat.
"I don't want any of those," I said as I crossed my arms over my chest.
While I wasn't paying attention, Arjun reached into his pocket and pulled out the 4 chocolates. He unwrapped one of them and fed it to me, which took me by surprise. I took one of the chocolates, unwrapped it, and fed it to Arjun which was a real shock.
"How is it?" I asked Arjun with an excited tone.
"Lovely," he responded. "because you gave it to me."
"Shut up," I said, looking out the window while blushing furiously.
"You're doing it again."
"Doing what?"
"Blushing."
"No, I'm just sick!"
We both looked at each other and burst into laughter. Arjun rested his head on my shoulder after we finished feeding each other the chocolate. I pushed my hands up against the window, careful not to push Arjun off of me and got scared. Nearly 77357438574385 feet up in the air and that too while there's a storm?
"Arjunā¦"
"What?"
"I hate heightsā¦"
"Yet you love roller coasters."
"Roller coasters are safe!"
"So is this plane ride!"
Right when he finished that statement, I jumped into his arms due to the sound of thunder. Arjun held on to my waist and stroked my hair. We just sat there, holding on to each other as Arjun whispered comforting words into my ear.
"Look at how cute they are⦠remember our first plane ride Brendon?"
"I sure do honey⦠ah young love."
We were slowly aware of our surroundings when an old couple started to talk about us and reminisce. We both stared lovingly at them as the man helped his wife get back to her seat. At the same time, I felt drawn to look at Arjun whom I'm guessing had the same urge as he looked at me as well. I looked at the empty seat next to us and noticed how I jumped a whole seat just to get to him. Embarrassed, I started to get up, however, Arjun grabbed my waist and pulled me back down.
"Arjuuun, we're in a public plane!" I said in a low voice as I giggled.
"So? No one cares!" Arjun said with a smirk.
"Tickets?" the flight attendant asked, interrupting mine and Arjun's plane romance ā unfortunately. Arjun handed the attendant our tickets and looked at us weird. "You could have saved some money by buying one ticket and sitting on one seatā¦" she suggested and laughed.
Out of embarrassment, I got up and sat back into my seat ā looking at the scenery that was separated from me by the plane window. The sound of thunder was heard again by us and Arjun immediately grabbed hold of my hand and stroked it with his thumb. I looked at him and whispered a "thank you."
"I feel like we're in a movie," Arjun said.
"What?"
"We're both being kind of quiet and Tujhe Bhula Diya just came on when I put my music library on shuffle."
"Now that would work if I actually gave you up for Ovi."
"Thank God you didn't, I don't know what I would do without you."
"I don't know what I would do with you! Do you think I'll be able to play hide and seek in the airport with anyone else? Or do you think any other guy would put up with me losing our passports? Or my eating habits?"
"For you, any guy would do anything. I'm just the lucky one."
"Not even! There's girls that would go on your knees for you! I still don't understand why you love me anyways," I gritted out in jealousy.
Arjun put a piece of my hair behind my ear. "There's a million reasons why I love you. If I tell you all of them now, then you'll fall asleep. So every day when you wake up, I'll tell you a reason why I do."
"This is exactly why I would never give you up. I love you SO much." I managed to choke out as I was getting teary eyed.
"Meri jaan, why are you crying now? This is why I can't be romantic with you, only cheesy." Arjun said with a wobbly smile as he wiped away my falling tears with his thumb.
I giggled and hit him playfully. I put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes while he traced my facial features with his finger. I could feel him turning his head which made me hold on to his arm for security. Arjun noticed that I was having a hard time falling asleep so he kissed my forehead and moved down to my nose, then my cheek, then the side of my lip, then down to my chin.
This time, I ended up waking up 30 minutes later.
"I love you because you're different from every other girl I know." Arjun said.
"More like crazy," I began with a giggle. "but I love you too." I said as I put my head deeper into the crook of Arjun's neck.
"Are you okay? You keep falling asleep every few hours," Arjun asked with concern.
"Well⦠I didn't sleep at all last night⦠and it's so hard to sleep." I said, covering my mouth as I yawned. "I'm hungry."
"All you've done on this flight is eat and sleep."
"Geez, maybe you need some Pamprin for your sass."
"I'm not being sassy!"
"I'm tired."
"Again?"
"No, now I want to watch a movie."
"What movie?"
"Wait no, let's do karaoke!!!!"
"In public?"
"We're never going to see these people again, why not?"
"What song?"
"Dil Kyun Yeh Mera!!!!!"
"How about no. I've heard you in the shower too many times."
"Fine then, what song do YOU want to sing?"
"I can't sing."
"I don't care, neither can I."
"You just pick!"
"Wait, we don't even have the TV's! That's in first class!"
"Then let's sneak into first class!"
I looked at Arjun and smiled wide at his statement. "Okay, you be Sharukh Khan and I'll be Kajol, we'll say we got in a car accident ā that's why we look a bit different and we ended up getting our tickets switched with someone else and we belong in first class."
"Will this work? We need a plan B."
"Salman and Katrina?"
"No, something besides Bollywood celebrities!"
"Rob and Kristen?"
"NO! I meant like a completely different plan, just in case!"
"Okay, so how about we say that we have amnesia?"
"Yeah okay, I'm sure they'll believe that."
"Greeaaat! So you agree! Okay now let's go."
I grabbed on to Arjun's hand and dragged him into first class. Surprisingly, there were no flight attendants in sight so we quickly took 2 open seats.
"That wasn't so hard!" I exclaimed and started to jump with excitement.
"If you keep making a scene, we're going to get kicked off this plane!" Arjun scolded, trying hard to keep a straight face.
"You're a party pooper!" I exclaimed while sticking out my tongue at him. I grabbed the remote for the TV's installed into the chairs in front of us and started to get the karaoke ready. Surprisingly, they had a Bollywood favorites section. Well DUH, I mean it is a plane after all ā they even had songs in languages I've never heard of. "Let's sing Suraj Hua Madham!"
"You're kidding right?" Arjun asked with a scoff.
"Nooo, I love that song! And Zayn likes it too so let's sing it pleeease?!" I whined, getting ready to throw a tantrum.
After what seemed to be an hour of whining and tantrums to me (which in reality was only 5 minutes), Arjun agreed to sing Suraj Hua Madham. At first, Arjun and I were mortified with each other's singing, but we just accepted the fact that we were both tone deaf. We were actually having a great time, until a flight attendant interrupted us as always. I could have sworn that she was after Arjun, whenever we were having a cute moment, she just HAD to interrupt it.
"Weren't you guys in regular class?"
"Je suis Kajol et c'est Sharukh, nous ne parlons pas anglais." I said while making a mental note to thank Arjun for making me learn some French.
The flight attendant gave us a confused look in response and walked away. After we were sure that she had left, we laughed a bit more than we should have ā there were way more stares from people in first class than before in regular class.
/////////////////////////
"ARJUN! WAKE UP, WAKE UP! WE'RE IN MUMBAI!" I exclaimed as I watched the plane slowly land.
"Huh⦠5 more minutesā¦" Arjun mumbled, holding on to my arm as a pillow.
"No, no look we're in Mumbai, we're finally here!" I squealed, starting to do my kicking and shaking again.
"Okay, I'm up, I'm up." Arjun said as her rubbed his eyes open.
As soon as the flight attendant came on the intercom and let us know that we could all exit the plane and enter the airport in an orderly fashion, I grabbed Arjun's hand and ran through the exit. I spread my arms open and took in the smell of India. Surprisingly, it had more of a pollution/gasoline scent towards it, making me cough.
"Purvi, this is exactly what happens when you get too excited." Arjun said matter-of-factly with a roll of eyes.
"ARJUN! How can you not be happy?" I questioned as I jumped and ran everywhere due to excitement and homesickness.
"I am happy," Arjun began as he grabbed onto one of my hands and pulled me into his embrace, making me collide into him. "this is the same airport where you confessed your love to me." Arjun said in a hushed tone as he hid his face into my hair.
I blushed and held a tighter grip on to Arjun, especially since I saw the flight attendant exiting the plane as all of the other passengers came off. "Let's collect the luggage and go surprise aai!"
"Okay okay, one step at a time Purvi!" Arjun chuckled as he followed behind me.
"Where's our luggage?" I asked after every other passenger collected theirs.
"It should be hereā¦" Arjun said in a confused tone. "CRAP!"
"WHAT?"
"Our luggage got stolen."
"How do you know?"
"Remember when we were supposed to board the 1st flight and not the 2nd? But we didn't inform the people!"
"SO MY FOOD IS GONE?"
"PURVI!"
"SORRY! But hey can we discuss this over like lunch or something because I'm hungry."
Arjun sighed and dragged me over to the lost and found ā what a switch up. We were at the lost and found for the India airport now!
"Excuse me, but my wife's luggage along with mine was sent along with the first flight and we came on the second⦠do you have any found luggage?" Arjun asked, speaking fast.
"Let me checkā¦" spoke the guy at the lost and found counter.
When he disappeared to the back, I looked at Arjun and cupped his face with my hands.
"Arjun, why are you freaking out so much over this?"
"I wanted this to be perfect for you!"
"It is perfect! Chocolate, karaoke, hide and seek, passports, being sneaky, and more chocolate ā what more could a girl ask for?" I said finished my question off with a giggle.
Arjun looked mortified. In response, he cleverly said, "more like, what more could a Purvi ask for?"
I giggled and gave him a light slap. When the lost-and-found guy (really creative name, I know) came out, he informed us that he didn't have our stuff. I sighed and Arjun left our contact information in case they suitcases happened to show up.
////////////////////
"Do I look okay?" I asked Arjun while looking down at my outfit. It's been over a year since I last wore my typical salwars making me feel like the same crazy love sick girl I was back then. Thanks to our suitcases getting lost, Arjun ended up having to buy himself a shirt and jeans and buying me a salwar.
In response, Arjun flashed a grin. He stood behind me and started playing with my hair.
"What are you doing now?" I asked with a giggle.
"Give me your hair clip." Arjun commanded.
"I don't see why you need my hair clip," I began as I started to dig through my purse. "Here," I said as I handed it to him.
"The 2012 Purvi is back!" Arjun chuckled.
I pulled out a compact mirror that I had hidden away in my purse and looked at my reflection. Turns out, Arjun had done my hair into the signature poof I used to do nearly every day here in Mumbai. "You're kidding me right? I thought you never liked my hair like this!"
"I loved your hair like this!" Arjun protested while grabbing on to my hands.
"Punni told me to stop doing my hair like this after we got married because she told me that you told Ovi that you didn't like my hair like this and Ovi told her and then she told me!" I said, talking fast and furiously.
Arjun chuckled and let go of my hands. Instead, he held onto my shoulders. "What made you trust Punni, hmmm?"
"Well, when someone says that YOU say something, I usually believe it!" I pouted.
"Okay, how about you don't do that anymore," Arjun suggested.
"Yeah, yeah!" I snapped while crossing my arms over my chest. "Let's go now?"
///////////////////////////////////////////
"AAI!" I exclaimed, running over and enveloping her into a hug. Instead of the expected smiles and screaming, I received nothing. "Aai? Kya hua? Sab teek ho?" I looked over at aaji for any clues, but instead she rushed into the kitchen to perform what I was I assuming to be an aarti.
"Purvi, main teek ho, but why did you come here?" Aai asked, making Purvi pull away from the embrace.
"What do you mean why did I come here? I wanted to surprise you guysā¦"
"Yeah, but what will Ovi do if she sees you guys there?"
"What do you mean what will Ovi do? Is she here?"
"Well⦠not right now⦠but she's been staying with us since Manav has gone on a business tripā¦"
"I don't see the problem here though?"
"Ovi hasn't gotten over Arjun."
I looked over at Arjun and then looked back at aai. "I'm not here to stay aai ā I just came to visit, don't worry." I sighed and realized that while I was obtaining Arjun, I drifted apart from my family. However, for some reason ā I really didn't mind it. I knew that if I sacrificed Arjun for my family, we'd both be miserable for the rest of our lives. I promised myself when I was younger that I would only marry someone I loved or I'd stay single for the rest of my life. I looked over at Arjun who was already looking at me and knew that I'd never be able to love someone else. I reached over and held on to his hand, barely touching.
After aaji performed the aarti and made some of her infamous tea for Arjun and I, I ran over and hugged her like a kid who would hold onto their blanket when they were scared. Aaji returned the gesture and placed kisses all over my face.
After hours of catching up, aai informed us that Ovi would be returning home soon, so we decided to say our goodbyes. As we opened the door to leave, we were taken aback to see Ovi standing in the doorway. I quickly shut the door out of impulse and ran out through the back with Arjun. We finally stopped when we reached the rose garden.
"You're scared of Ovi?" Arjun asked, clearly amused.
"I don't want drama, not today!" I protested.
"Yeah, that's the reason why you're leaving through the back." Arjun said scornfully as he rolled his eyes.
"It is okay and if you're gonna be sassy and not believe me then I'm staying in this house and you can sleep on the streets!" I said, getting sassy. A pair of warm lips caught mine mid-way and embraced me into a warm and passionate sensation that was just indescribable. I just pretended as if it wasn't to shut me up.
"HEY, YOU ROTTEN KIDS!" exclaimed an angry neighborhood guard, causing Arjun and I to break our kiss. We looked at each other with wide eyes as if we were young teenagers getting caught doing something we shouldn't have been doing at a party. "Have you two no shame? Sneaking into someone's yard and showing PDA!" the guard scolded, causing us to both turn various hues of pink and red.
"Um⦠I live hereā¦" I argued in a voice so low, it seemed like a whisper.
"Yeah and I assume you're going to say that your SRK and Kajol?" the guard bitterly said. "I'm letting you guys off with a warning ā next time, get a room!"
"Wow ā first time in Mumbai after a year and I've already lost the 'favorite kid' position to Ovi and we get caught for PDA, when we're a married couple?" I spoke, trying to keep a straight face. I looked over at Arjun and saw him chuckling.
"You were right, they really should make a TV show about us."
I gave Arjun a small smile before he pulled me into a sideways hug and kissed my temple.
"You want to get caught by that guard again don't you?" I scolded. I sighed and began to remember mine and Arjun's wedding night and started to blush furiously. "Hey⦠how about we go to DK uncle's house?"
"Call him baba first."
"DK baba?"
"No, just baba!"
"OKAY. How about we go to baba's house?"
"Much better."

"Is this why you wanted to come here?" Arjun asked, observing me jumping and playing on the very same bed our souls came together as one.
"Kinda⦠you come on the bed too!" I exclaimed.
I watched as Arjun sat on the bed and laid his intent gaze on me.
"What?"
"What?"
"Why are you staring at me like that?"
"I was just thinking us."
"Oh, is that so?"
"Mmm⦠we've come so far, don't you think?"
"Matlab?"
"From a business-employee that despised each other to a happy, in-love married coupleā¦"
"Accha⦠and what is your favorite memory of us so far?"
"What kind of a question is that?"
"Just asking."
"Whenever you're beside me ā that's my favorite moment."
I pushed Arjun's shoulder causing his body to sway towards the bed frame. Giggling, I grabbed a pillow and lightly hit Arjun with it. "You're like a life time supply of cheese, I don't have to go out and buy any!"
Next thing I knew, Arjun purposely grabbed hold of my hands so that I would fall on him. "ARJUN! Let me go!"
Arjun pouted. "No⦠I like this position!"
I rolled my eyes. "Sure you do. Now let me go, what if baba walks in from all the commotion?! Don't disturb him when he's sleepingā¦"
"What if he doesn't?" Arjun challenged as he brought his head closer to mine and kissed my jaw lightly. Pieces of my hair were falling apart from the hair clip, but after the kiss, Arjun put them behind my ear.
As always, since Arjun had that effect on me, I gave in and we created another beautiful night ā just as memorable as our first night together in the hut. Our souls became one again, reminding us that it was us against the world. You can take whatever you want from me, but you can't take our love. Our love is like the sun, it will always be shining and showering us with warmth and happiness. Well, what else can I say? We were like each other's sunshine.
