My dear Abhi,

Thank you for all the nice comments, and I am glad you liked the post.

As for the sections in red in your response, you are of course fully entitled to a viewpoint different from mine.

I would only reiterate that what Arjun is shown as doing today is not so much a display of magnanimity or abandoning of his ego, as a rather unbelievable degree of submissiveness, and almost supine behaviour. This is, firstly, not at all Arjun, and secondly, is both uncalled for and dumbs him down. I do not want to go further on this point, but you might like to see my response to Jyoti above.

I would end by reiterating that I do not expect to convert you to my point of view, but only want to explain why you cannot convert me to yours!

My dear Shyamala,

Much as a treat it was to read about Arjun and Purvi's convo from the write ups, so it is with your post. Cannot agree more, especially loved the blue and in bold...like how you end it "no matter whether the collars are white or blue!"👏 It is such a nice way to show all the different aspects of the ARVI relationship (different from the romance that was the dream sequence) which is forging ahead- and despite the trials and tribulations- its bringing them closer- almost like a maturing of their love for each other- the understanding and sharing seems to be superb...cannot wait to watch that scene...
As regards Arjun trying to get Archana's blessing, maybe he is not seeing in her the ranting avatar that was Purvi's mom, but just Archana who was his mom's friend and thus the desire to get her blessings. But someone rightly pointed out that it would have served him well to get Sulo Aaji's blessings - which would have been pouring forth in plenty- I don't know if the CVs are trying to show that Archana was wrong and showing that her melting process towards dear dear Arjun (as the best match if there were one for dear dear Purvi) has begun and this was the very first step of a thousand such steps to come...
...I guess i did not read it as Arjun going down in notches, mostly as i have not yet seen the episode- but more as leaving Archana speechless! After all, I don't think it hurts Arjun - besides he is on a journey to discover himself- and if in the process he does shed his ego (and here as you mention a step over and above that), but it shows the magnanimity of Arjun- his good upbringing and his qualities- his reaching out, his forgiveness for Archana's awful and rather rude behavior- what with all the finger (beige nails, cannot forget, thnx Bee) pointing in his face- here i see Arjun as the greater person- the better human being for having done what he did...

I was not planning to comment on today's episode, but after reading a few of the comments, I am tempted to offer my (for the most part) determinedly contrary views. At the very least, they will add some spice to our deliberations!

I felt that today's PR was enough to

(a) give one diabetes, and
(b) make one double up with laughter.

(a) I thought the whole scene between Arjun and Archana was highly stilted and artificial,to say the least.

I am not saying this because Archana looked terminally dyspeptic and refused to give Arjun any aashirwaad. That was only to be expected; she would have been dismayed at the prospect of having to fulfil her end of the bargain, and what would she say then to Manav and her darling Ovi? After all, that is all she could think of after slapping the living daylights out of Purvi.

I say this because the way in which Arjun behaved towards Archana today was totally unlike him, going by his character graph so far. It was completely out of character. He respects his elders, but he is not the kind of young man given to falling at their feet and asking for their blessings. He has never touched Manav's feet or DK's , so why would he now do something so alien to his temperament and upbringing?

This apart,
the scene was also soaked in enough mithaas (sweetness), from Arjun's side, to give the average healthy viewer a serious case of diabetes. All the saccharine stuff he was made to spout -about not having his mother and thus turning to Archana to bring him luck; seeking her aashirwaad, and then, when she refuses to bless him, saying that at least she did not prevent him from touching her feet - .. ugh.., it made me feel downright queasy.

That too after the way she treated him like dirt the day before. It is the kind of behaviour that one would expect from an obedient doormat of a bahu, ghunghat properly in place, towards her saas, not from Arjun (Kirloskar or not) towards Archana Deshmukh. Does the chap have no self-respect?

It was all so stagey and so obviously aimed at pleasing conventional lady viewers by making them feel that 'Arre, yeh ladka to khoob sanskaari nikala!' (This boy turns out to be very traditional, after all!). It was a ridiculous script, and it dumbed Arjun down several notches. I devoutly hope that this process is not going to be taken further, or the Arjun we have got to know and love will soon disappear, to be replaced by a standard issue male character in any TV soap.

(b) The idea of Arjun suddenly becoming an ace auto repairman is unintentionally hilarious. The same Arjun who, as has been pointed out above, regards a breakdown of his car with impatient non-involvement, is transformed, without even the benefit of a genie, into a super-Manav I. He does not even ask what is wrong with the 6 cylinder car, but merely pulls out a wire and wipes it, attempts a false start, then blows into another part - and then bingo! The engine is purring smoothly!

The sole believable part of this unplanned comedy turn is that Arjun has no real intention of working in a garage, but merely stumbles into the job by accident. When Jyoti reported that he was going to work in a garage, I could not imagine him how he would end up actually choosing such a job, but that has now been neatly sorted out.

The only part I liked today was the low key, sensible conversation between Arjun and Purvi. There was no romance; that would have been out of place. Instead, there was an unprecedented level of mutual understanding shown by both of them, which was all the more remarkable for being very natural, almost matter of fact.

It was refreshing to see that Arjun does not indulge in the time honoured lie of claiming that all is well, so as to spare Purvi any worry (something that invariably makes the problem worse, and never fails to get my goat). Instead, he is candid about the difficulties he has faced, and in return Purvi is quietly, but convincingly reassuring. This kind of unhesitating openness on his side, and calm supportiveness on hers, is as novel in soaps as it is refreshing, and it augurs well for their future relationship.

She is not able to turn him from the path he has chosen, but then she would have known that already, and while she worries about him, she must also be secretly proud of his determination and never say die attitude.

In conclusion, a few minor points.
Arjun needs a quick lesson is how to hang clothes (in this case a towel) out for drying. Then again, does he HAVE to carry his papers around in a crumpled plastic bag? Surely one does not have to be Arjun Kirloskar to have a simple briefcase!

I also noted that while the mauve shirt, a staple in his wardrobe, was once again on display, there was, for the first time, a tie as well. This, as also the 'Sir's lavishly scattered all over his speech, even to the garage owner, make it clear that Arjun (now not Kirloskar) has well and truly joined the ranks of the workers of the world, no matter whether the collars are white or blue!

Dear Jyoti,

Oh dear, I am sorry if I sounded crabby; I did not mean to. This said, you should not be surprised that your attempt to find some understanding for Arjun's spineless behaviour today did not fly with most of us.

As Archana points out so sapiently, women mostly like strong men, and that includes me. An Arjun who seems set to let Archana ride roughshod over him while he falls at her feet is simply NOT acceptable to me. If I had a son who behaved like this, I would give him a piece of my mind.

A man should be a man and not a doormat, even if it is his future mother-in-law who is concerned. If he starts out like this with Archana, think what will happen to him when he really becomes her damaad!

Nice post Shyamala..
saw the epi just now...as we have long weekend...could not watch it in regular time...finally managed to watch it..

i felt like i have seen some 80's movie in 30 mins today..

Arjun finally turned mechanic...i just hope to reach his goal only he will b in that profession, not longer...

Frm first part i felt, like Archana wanted to c Arjun...thr was guilt on her face..but she didnt wanted to show it off...or else, easily by hiding she could c him & go inside...but she just was thr..to c him going...
so now he sees her as his mom too😳...that i felt better & good...like Arjun said, she didnt give him ashirwad, but didnt even moved a bit, when he bended to give ashirwad...

Arvi convo was nice👍🏼...but Purvi shoult stop telling him to go back now...she should support & motivate him more...she very well knows, Archu will not allow them to marry unless he earns by himself...
so finally by precap, Archana sees Arjun as future Manav, who can take care of her Purvi...i hope she realises soon, that Arjun is only perfect for Purvi, not anyone else..

good today we didnt get glimpse of Ovi & her Urmila avatar😆

but nice epi..finally step is moved

Totally agree with this post. Firstly, the scene between Archana and Arjun was a bit too awkward. His whole interaction seemed like a sugar-coated attack towards her challenge. Please Arjun, don't compare your own wonderful mother to Archana! Ashna supported and guided you through life while Archana is demoting you to a fledgling. 👎🏼

I was literally laughing my head off throughout the entire mechanic scene. 🤣 Even before, I was surprised to see how all bosses were portrayed as condescending. I guess there's two ways to look at rejection; being under qualified or overqualified. Once Arjun reaches the garage, he automatically knows how to repair a six-cylinder automobile. 😆 I think the CVs forgot this was the very Arjun who couldn't repair his broken down car on the way to the Pune conference. I guess back in their Canada mansions, Manav must have taught him a thing or two about cars? 😕

Purvi seemed to be the only character with an inkling of sense today. She reassured Arjun that his position in the business world was due to his own work. Sure, being DK's son made the opportunities come quicker, but Arjun lived up to the tasks. In fact, he exceeded the expectation and devoted his life to work. Glad she's not on her mom's side for this one. 👍🏼

And now for a short rant to the CVs!

Dear CVs,

Forum members have already proposed such interesting tracks like Arjun working in Soham's office. When your viewers are offering you creative plot lines, why do you insist on feeding us the old, sour Arman track? I assure you it's not a track that gets better with age.

I hope you have an exceptional reason for repeating this story. Whether it be making Soham's entry or having Archana realize her foolishness (which only seems to occur after she sees history repeated before her own eyes), please prove to us in future episodes that the choice to make Arjun a mechanic was decisive and logical.

My Dear Shyamala,

Loved your post today! It had me in stitches! The towel 😆
His place was miraculously clean too when he woke up from sleep the other day - invisible house elves? 🤣
I could not stop laughing either after I got over my initial faux pas with yesterday's post. Boy, what a whammy for me! Needless to say, I well seasoned up my words and made a quick meal of them this morning! 🤣
Granted, that I am still very much in favor of Arjun stepping up the crease and performing like Sachin Tendulkar but as a mechanic? Well Rithvik has to dig deep for that one to be convincing to me. If he can pull this off then hats off to him. Although, I must agree with Asha - I'll take one John Abraham to go please 🤣
I, by no means, speak 'automobile' but in order to get the car running today - he checked the oil (the wire he pulled out and wiped was the oil gage), checked a 'fuse?' (guys can help with this one if you know) and screwed on the cap to the radiator? 🤣 Yes, that will get a 6 cylinder car running in no time. 🤣
I like him humble and seeking the respect of his elders - especially the one who will become his mother in law but I agree with the delivery. Humble, yes - Toady, no way! 😕
I was attracted to the show because of the fire that I saw in him from the beginning - a strong, confident man with a truck load of arrogance (that might be a personal liking 😉). Oh well, c'est la vie.
P.S. I saw an upcoming show on Zee that is being filmed in London 😉 and it looks somewhat interesting (am I a trendsetter or what? 🤣). I may switch to that instead. Atleast I will have no expectations going in so even if it doesn't meet my liking I would have lost nothing. 😆

Arjun must have somehow gotten hold of Manav's locket and miraculously transformed in to a car mechanic 🤣
By the power of Honda - no wait, - Mitsubishi !!! 🤣
Either that or Arjun has been keeping secrets from us a long time back? 😉

Shyamala, I second everything you've said, not contrary at all. You have voiced what many of us who watched today's episode felt. I will refrain from saying anything further except that I loved Purvi reasoning with Arjun that he is not a nobody like her mother has tried to establish but is a successful businessman in his own right. These are the beginnings of a backbone against her mother's nonsensical conditions to (dis)prove Arjun's worth.

I called Purvi Archana's soul child, the sinews of her heart, in one of my older posts, I am realizing I might have been mistaken. Even Kunti felt the pull of motherhood when she met Karna face to face, Archana is after all a mere mortal, full of foibles and churning emotions, it is but understandable for her to feel overwhelmed by the sight and presence of her lovely daughter, Ovi. She is still pre-occupied with her lost dream, a life with Manav and her daughters and so for her not to (unconsciously) want Ovi's ex to become Purvi's current is natural.

dear shyamalaji,
wonderful post, it was just what i had in my mind...
the episode was hilarious and entirely stupid!!!
the smart sophisticated boss to mechanic... guess it'l give the viewers dyspepsia!!
somehow v all knew that arjun wouldn't get a job he'd want but this???
as archanaji said in her post, they totally butchered his character...
yes the aashirwaad scene was hilarious, i was like,"dude what r u thinking!"
archana always said, aashna was her best friend, but the what she behaves towards her best friend's son is not acceptable.
purvi and arjun were sensible, supported each other well.
coming to d precap: is archana aii happy now?? she wanted someone like her manav for her daughter, i think the CV's r giving her just that...
P.S: that plastic arjun was carrying! goodness how did he get that!!!!
