These are all baseless fears. At some point very soon, Arjun will have to manage to get Purvi alone, talk to her and tell her about what DK has told him to do and what DK has promised to do. At that point she might spring the sacrifice decision on him. Let us see how he reacts to that.

This apart, I really feel, and I hope you will not take this amiss, that you are all over-reacting and behaving as though this was a tragic tale on the lines of Dr. Zhivago. Well, it is NOT. Arjun and Purvi are still firmly in place in the opening panel for each episode, plumb centre, thus both declaring and reinforcing their status as the anointed heirs of Archana and Manav's Pavitra Rishta, of course updated for Gen Y.

And if Purvi can get Arjun out of her mind in 24 hours, good for her. It would only prove that her love was a weak plant that withered in the first cold blast. What she should be concerned about is not Ovi's obsession for Arjun, but how much it is reciprocated. I was surprised that she did not sound Teju out on this point; she would very likely have got a candid and (for Purvi) reassuring answer.

Teju would have told Purvi the truth that Arjun never cared for Ovi in that way and hopefully banished any feelings of guilt or tendencies towards being sacrificial on Purvi's part. Hope what you say is true, that Arjun is tolerating Ovi's affection only in deference to his dad's wishes that he stay put until DK returns.

Dear Janhvi,

Well, of course I am right about Arjun - if he did push Ovi away and she makes a scene, he would have to prematurely disclose to her that she is a millstone round his neck, and probably the reason for that as well. The consequences can well be imagined, and all hell would break loose, dragging Manav instantly into the mess.

DK, who has, all things considered, been very fair to and supportive of Arjun, would be very angry that Manav had not been left for him to handle. It would have been an all round mess, and DK might well have washed his hands off the whole. That would ruin Arjun's only hope of resolving the whole matter decently. We have to remember that he looks up to Manav a very great deal, and he must be having a lot of affection for his childhood pal Ovi as well. When he is talking to DK, it is obvious that he is concerned about this.

So Arjun has to tread carefully, no matter how awkward it is for him, and this is what he seems to be doing. What one cannot understand is that if a girl hugs her fiance and he is about as warm as a statue, surely alarm bells would ring in her (feather)head? Not with Ovi, it seems.

But you are slightly off the mark when you say that learning from Teju that Arjun never loved Ovi would have "banished any feelings of guilt or tendencies towards being sacrificial on Purvi's part". No, no, and you will agree when you remember that Purvi's feelings of guilt are not because she thinks Arjun loves Ovi. If that was so, he does not love Purvi, and so Purvi would have nothing left for her to sacrifice!

It is rather because she KNOWS that Arjun loves only her, Purvi, and has also had it drilled into her by Teju that Ovi loves Arjun to distraction. Ovi is her 'sister' and Purvi thus feels that she has wrongfully deprived her 'sister' of the man whom she wants above all. Whence the sacrificial bent.

This said, and I hope you and many others are not going to clobber me virtually for this, but I feel that it would do Purvi some good to see Ovi haunting poor Arjun and draping herself all over him every chance she gets.

Purvi is a darling, but the fact is that she has had it very easy as far as Arjun is concerned, as it is he who has done all the running. She got him on a plate without having had to lift a finger (well, I will concede one frantic dash to the airport and a crying fit against a conveniently placed pillar, but that is about it). When one gets something too easily, one does not value it as it should be valued. Just as she realised that she loved Arjun only when he seemed to be going out of her reach, so too now, she will feel jealous, and possessive about him as never before. And she will realise how empty her life would be without him and his love.

Maybe, just maybe, this will take the edge off her lemming-like tendencies, and make her think a bit before rushing to throw Arjun out of her life so that Ovi can have him.

The other thing is why all concerned feel that if Purvi ditches him, Arjun will automatically settle for Ovi. If I were he, I would, as one of our members suggested tongue in cheek, hot foot it back to Canada, and get hold of a nice gori who would not plague him the way these two do!
