After a frantic search , the third part of the chronicles was found tucked away in the shampoo cabinet of Saint Bhavna's attached Bathroom in her boudoir . It was carefully concealed behind some lavender essence shampoo bottles , all imported from London . The people searching it squatted right there on the bathroom tiles and read it hungrily , so much had their curiosity level risen with all these readings .
April 1 2010 : Today was a day of nasty , unpleasant shocks , one after the other . First Varsha shocked me by declaring that she was pregnant at the breakfast Table . We were all having breakfast and she told me , Aai , GREAT NEWS ! Your wish is coming true , Ur gonna be a GRANDMA in eight months from today ! I was so shocked ...HAPPILY shocked I mean to hear that , I almost CHOKED on my Buttered toast . Really Varsha ? I asked , gasping for breath as Dear Mohan immediately supplied me with water . I am SO HAPPY ! Upon which she threw her head back and cackled and cackled and wiped the tears of mirth from her eyes and said GOTCHA ! APRIL FOOL AAI ! I just knew this would Jolt u ! How u CHOKED !
Needless to say I Choked AGAIN . Really , I did NOT find anything the least humorous about this joke .I found it in VERY BAD TASTE . I looked , aggrieved , at Satish , but he evaded my eyes . Its not the poor boy's fault of course . What a dreadful girl . Such an UNPLEASANT sense of humor .
Then Mohan shocked me at night by asking me if I was in the MOOD . I was so STUNNED ! We were lying in bed , me worrying about Poor Satish and if he would EVER have a baby , when Mohan nudged me and asked me if my lilac two piece nightie , the one I bought from a Duty free Shop when we were young ., STILL FITS ME . I don't Think So Mohan , I replied , rather coldly , thinking he was being MOST rude by hinting at my weight . Upon which he grinned most peculiarly and said WHAT A PITY ,I THOUGHT U COULD TRY IT ON IF YOU ARE STILL IN THE MOOD .
OMG , I was so SHOCKED ! He changed his statement hurriedly of course , saying that it was APRIL FOOL from HIS END , the moment he saw the LOOK on my face . He stuttered and stammered and apologised profusely .
Really , What has the world come to ! What IS this April fool nonsense!
First Varsha , then Mohan ! Dear Mohan ! So sensible , So Sober ! Whatever had gotten into him ! Of course its the toll of that stroke. I have decided to forgive him . He has apologised for being so immature and is gonna make up by gifting me a lovely lilac Dharmavaram .
Talked to Rasika on the phone , she had called up late in the night as she was bored . She often calls me up that way . She told me that Archana was getting engaged to a handsome hunk called Jaywant Rane and that Manohar's pension had totally stopped . The Whole House is being run on MY DAUGHTER"S salary she fumed . I pacified her and to change her mood told her about my April fool experiences . Upon which she asked me if Mohan REALLY meant it as APRIL FOOL with a tinkly little laugh . Whatever Do u mean Rasika , I gasped , upon which she merely remarked that Men behave very peculiarly at That age so I should be CAREFUL .
I cannot SLEEP after that so am writing this Diary . Whatever does Dear Rasika Mean ! She does say the MOST extraordinary things at times ! I am determined not to pay ANY attention to it . My Mohan is a perfect example of sobriety .
So Was Manohar , a small voice keeps telling me . Till he started sneaking around and doing the most odd things and harassing Sulochana .
April 5 2010 : Attended Archana's Engagement party today . Such a handsome Man she has got for her second husband after that very odd divorce with Manav ! Rasika tells me that it was a VERY dramatic divorce indeed . All were sobbing in the courthouse and begging them to stay together and They too wanted to stay together and yet were firm about divorcing and what not . All so PUZZLING . The Judge looked distinctly annoyed , says Rasika . She was there with Ajit to see it All . Anyways I am glad She found a second life partner , Jaywant Rane looks really very handsome . Works in her company . They look SO good together . Just then Manav walked in , to my great surprise , and that Savita Deshmukh , who I believe should not be allowed in ANY party . Archana started behaving MOST peculiarly after that , she started worshipping Manav or something . Couldn't really make out , as I was far behind but it looked like she was touching his feet and taking his BLESSINGS . The Groom looked MOST uncomfortable . Does dear Archana really know what she is doing ? Is it wise ? I ponder . Savita Deshmukh was telling the groom's shocked mother rather loudly HOW SORRY SHE WAS TO LOSE ARCHANA AS A BAHU . The poor Lady looked very uncomfortable of course . Rasika commented that very soon Mrs Rane was going to be very sorry to HAVE ARCHANA AS A BAHU . I am going to ignore that , as Dear Archana is indeed a very nice girl and was my FIRST choice as a bahu . My choice can NEVER be wrong .
So many ladies asked me if Varsha had some GOOD NEWS to give and if I was gonna be a GRANDMA soon . I somehow managed a smile and returned home with a heavy heart . Relayed what they were saying to Varsha in the car , but she only said SO WHAT ???? FOR THEM SHOULD I PRODUCE BACHA ? in the MOST insulting way and brought tears to my eyes .
Later while eavesdropping I heard her telling Satish that YOUR MOM BORES ME WITH HER CONSTANT HINTS . I somehow returned to the bedroom and noticed that Mohan was snoring , his engagement Kurta lying on the floor . I picked it up to put it on the hanger only to find particles of pakoras stuck on the embroidery . I then remembered that Manohar had volunteered to take his wheelchair to the toilet .
All this is so TIRING . How much more can a lady of my age take ? Will God have some pity on me ?
April 10 2010 : Varsha was vomiting violently in the bathroom today . I heard , and asked her if she was pregnant . Upon which she lost her temper and said PREGNANT PREGNANT PREGNANT ! CAN"T A LADY GET VOMITS DUE TO INDIGESTION ?AAI EVERYTIME U GET VOMITS R U PREGNANT ? HA ?
I swallowed that insult too and URGED her to show herself to a Good Gynacologist . I am gonna tell this to Dear Satish too when this girl is NOT in the house . Dear Satish is SO understanding that way . She says its INDIGESTION but my Experience tells me OTHERWISE .
April 15 2010 : Am waiting and waiting anxiously for Dear Satish and Varsha to return from the Gynacologist . I do hope Varsha behaves herself in front of the Doctor . She has really NO manners and embarasses Dear Satish wherever he goes . Nowdays she Insults Archana's EX like anything . I admit its NOT right of him to turn up at parties and spoil them and insinuate that Archana's fiancee is a crook but honestly , calling him a THIRD RATE JEALOUS BHIKAARI WHO CAN"T LET TAI GO is too much . Dear Satish was SO uncomfortable ! He felt very sorry for the poor man who who stammers and stammers in front of Varsha .
April 16 2010 : Varsha is PREGNANT . I JUST KNEW IT ! I am so ELATED , I could DANCE ! I am gonna be a Grandma and Dear Mohan , A Grandpa ! And dear Satish a DADDY ! My boy looked SO HAPPY !
There is a blot on the picture though . VARSHA. She sobbed and sobbed in the bedroom after coming from the Doctor and had a HUGE argument with Poor Satish . HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN , I TOOK THE PILLS SO REGULARLY she screamed and threw the bottle of pills on Dear Satish's face . Thank God Dear Satish ducked in time , My heart missed a beat as I peered through the chink . She then accused him of SUBSTITUTING the pills with candy that looked EXACTLY like the original pills . Poor Satish went white in the face swearing on me that he NEVER did that . Upon which she remarked furiously that ONE GOOD THING THAT WILL COME OUT OF THIS FALSE SWEARING IS THAT YOUR ANNOYING MOM WILL DIE .
I have tottered back to the bedroom of course , but today there is happiness in my tottering steps. I thank Bappa for listening to my Prayers . I DO hope everything works out alright . It will , Won't it ? Yes , right ? I MUST keep assuring myself that it WILL .
