Thank you so much Umayal .
The last option is the best one because as Nicki says , honesty is the best policy . Like Varsha has told Satish that I don't love you now so don't expect a lot ...same way Manav has to tell Shravani that he is hopelssly in love with his wife and can not love her the way she is expecting him to ....
Then I guess he just has to wait for Shravani's verdict , but at least he has put his cards on the table .
Also if Archana says ' you have made a promise to this girl and now you have to keep it ...', then he will have a tough time convincing her , the only way he can convince her is by telling her that he would be desperatley unhappy with Shravani and Shravani deserves a betetr life partner than him....
Maybe then Archu will have second thoughts .
Let's not forget that his happiness also means a lot to Archana ....

Umayal, Archana is not a difficult person at all. She is uncomplicated , very transparent and very easy to understand . Manav is the difficult one ..he keeps a lot inside . Nicki 's job is more difficult than mine ...
Hey guys:
Not sure if Tanya, Gauri or Kool mentioned this in one of the earlier posts, but the question or should I say concern was raised as to why does Manav not tell Archana to go and complete her studies and get a job. Does he not want to see her grow or care about her welfare. What will happen to her after she leaves him.
I was thinking about this and what was said made sense initially but then I took a different view point which I think is the viewpoint of the character Manav.
Manav may be from the younger generation but his behaviour and thinking is very old school (maybe because he acted as the head of the house so early on in his youth). He is surrounded by housewives in his community and his family and friend circle. This role of the women is more familiar to him than that of a career woman. He does not see this as being an injustice to her but just a way of life. I do not think he intentionally expects his wife to be a bread winner. That would be a blow to his own ability to support her financially (which he as a husband would take pride in doing).
I think seeing her as a career woman might also be intimidating for him (knowingly or unknowingly). He wants to take care of his wife, protect her and provide for (outside of the Shravani element), anything else would be foreign to him. I therefore cannot think negatively about his inaction in this area.
My own experience living among lower middle class families, is that many a times (not always and definitely not if both the girl's parents are educated themselves) a girl is given a higher education so that she can find an equally or better educated husband. End of story. The intent is not the girl's professional development but, and I hate to say this, marriageable prospects. Most girls are not expected to use that education as a career advantage after marriage, unless they have their husband's or his family's blessings in this regard or their financial situation makes this a necessary option. In those instances, it is quite likely the girl will have a job not a career.
I knew several girls from lower middle class families who were fortunate enough to find progressive sasural's that were pleased with their education and their careers. But I noticed that, in middle class Indian society, this was the exception not the norm. Again, I could be wrong, I have been out of India for the last 12 years. Not sure how much has changed since then.
Again, I am not supporting Manav's inactions but trying to understand his psyche.
