An evening to remember
The veritable Who's Who from the TV industry were seen at the Indian Television Academy Awards, held last week in Mumbai. From Ramesh Sippy, Madhur Bhandarkar, David Dhawan and Anurag Basu to Amrita Rao, Satish Kaushik, Satish Shah, Shekhar Suman, Vipul Shah and Cyrus Broacha and others, they were all spotted at the do along with Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Rajkumar Santoshi, Ramesh Taurani, Farah Khan and Sonu Niigaam. The show was hosted by Sunil Grover and Gaurav Gera, who spoofed Amitabh Bachan's Paa with Sunil playing Auro and Gaurav playing Auro's father. Sa Re Ga Ma Lil Champs hosts Afsha and Dhairya hosted the Red Carpet and won over the guests with their charm. There was a special award to the team of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani for being the entertainer of the year. There were performances by the lead cast of Pavitra Rishta, Ankita and Sushant, who swung into hip-hop numbers from Kambakht Ishq and the Blue title song and Genda phool from Delhi-6. Other performers for the evening included Vikrant and Vibha from Balika Vadhu, Aditi and Harshad Chopra from Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil, Shaleen and Daljeet. This time The ITA Scroll of Honour (Television) 2009 went to Sony-SAB for introducing a first-ever concept of a channel dedicated entirely to comedy. Said Anu Ranjan, (President, ITA), "When we see the way our peers in the television industry are standing by us, we feel well and truly humbled. It's not the contest that matters here, it's not even about the trophies, it's about being there, about participating… and that's what is uppermost! It's not a mere awards ceremony of some winners and losers - it's a festival… a festival of joy for the entire TV fraternity. It's not us - it's they who have done it… and it's they who matter!'
