Yes, they are different and I think he understands that now. Initially he thought she reminded him or Imarti but maybe he's trying to reset his expectations or is worried about having any expectations from Babita in the first place.

Maybe that's what it is. More than the undue advantage it's his of losing them again. As for the trust factor, I think it's also because they just don't know him anywhere as well as he does. They have been very focused on themselves but have never bothered to find out what makes him tick. Minnie's recent spiel when she found out about his feelings also told him that she hadn't learned to trust 100% yet. He might say he's forgotten that episode but he was very very hurt by it. He just didn't want to bring it up because he wanted his VB to be happy.
I also think that on some level he had gotten so used to being a loner that he cannot really think along the lines that these two could one day support him as a family in his time of need the way he has been there for them. I think their tendency to take him for granted has a lot to do with trust issues if any.
More than that I think he is commitment-phobic. He was genuine when he said to Minnie he had tried to control his feelings for her mother but lost the battle to his heart. When it comes to the practical side of things he has remained silent. If you remember how and why Babita returned his money, I think that may have an impact.
You see how well the story is written that we can speculate from so many angles and they could all potentially be right. 😆
