Yesterday was about Babita's longing, and today she was just missing him in every moment of her day. No one to prepare tea for, no one to cook for, no HS with his messy hair walking in the aangan in one of his patiala suits.
The radio sequence and the way she had flashbacks was amazing. Each moment she recalled had a significance, making her tear up.
First of all she thought back to moments when they had been physically close.
The bike ride - it had been her decision to go with him despite the strike, she had asked him to take her. He had just told her that he had come to consider Minnie as his daughter, so they made that trip together for their daughter. They were sitting physically closer than ever before but also come closer as co-parents.
The mosquito swatting - HS concern for her well being, staying up late at night, potentially being bitten by a mosquito, contracting malaria, dengue, etc.
The hanky - HS observed and cared about every little thing related to Babita. He helped her wash her hands and then did not want her to spoil her dupatta by wiping her hands on it, so he offered her his hanky to wipe her hands on.
The ice cream experience - when she had not been self-conscious and tapped his closed fist, the first of such contacts that surprised him.
The dupatta stuck on the wall - when he had tried to help her, and as usual she had backed off.
She wanted nothing more than to hear his voice, hesitantly picking up the phone to call him, but unable to muster the courage to go ahead. So she did the next best thing to feel closer to him. She walked up to his cupboard and then she just kept remembering his words, and the depth of emotions he conveyed using them, and using his eyes.
Waise manne kuch ho jayega to aap ko farq padega?
Aap ko to kisi se bhi compare na kar sakta main.
Sab kuch aap hi ka hi to hai.
Then she thought back to all those moments when he had been oh so gentle and caring towards her.
When he had held her hand and blown on it after she had burnt it during the halva making session.
When he had wrapped the shawl around her, to provide her comfort, and she had instinctively held onto his hand on her shoulder, feeling his reassuring presence.
Then she lovingly ran her fingers over his kurtas, each representing the colors he had brought back in her life. I was really happy when she picked up the blue one, because I think he looks especially amazing in that color.
Oh! If only HS could see her in this state, he would be overwhelmed by the extent to which she was missing his presence, and was longing to see him, to hear his voice again.
Naeem Bi was such a tease, but I guess it was needed for Babita to stop hiding behind the tag of "friendship" and acknowledge that she had long passed that stage. Khatri is getting fed up of the Babita coaching center. He is going to cause trouble soon.
I wonder if Babita will ever find out about Dadu-Beeji's ghada story but it was cute to see Minnie teasing her grandmother. I must applaud the CVs for being so progressive. Not only are they open about showing people with kids falling in love a second time, they are also not shying away from talking about romance in the previous generation (grandparents). Love comes in many shapes and colors but it is also an emotion that exists through all of time.
Poor Babita did not even want to dress up for the party. Who would she do it for? The way Naeem Bi was talking about the possibility of a surprise visit, I wonder if she had sent HS the audio clip. I don't think he'd quit his trip halfway just to return home after listening to the radio. He is there on duty after all. It is more likely that he had missed the program altogether, but let's see. Anyway, wasn't he supposed to come the next day? Perhaps he could not wait until the morning and had decided to take the next flight/train back the same evening.
Hanuman had barely been gone 24 hours but he had taken her happiness and peace of mind. Her heart was not in anything, not even cooking, which she usually enjoyed doing, neither was it in dancing, singing, or making merry. There was a time when she would have loved having such a party at home with everyone, but now, even in the crowd she felt alone and incomplete without the man who made her heart sing.
Under the guise of not wanting to throw a party without his permission because of his scolding, she was respecting his wishes. The truth was that she found the idea of the party meaningless without his presence, that he mattered, and how! Babita ko farq padhta hai!
I'm glad that Minnie was direct with her this time and told her she wanted to know about her mother's pehla pyaar. Again, it's great to see a child thinking about her mother this way and talking about such emotions without taboo or shame. Well done, CVs!
Precap:
Aww! Babita is so insecure and still so low in self-esteem! She has put HS on a pedestal so high above herself that she feels that gap can never be closed, that he should not descend to her level because of his feelings for her. She feels that she is not worthy of him and has nothing to give him except her scars/bruises. Little does she know how high a regard he holds her in and that he has long since accepted her with her past and her flaws.
Minnie finally understands her mother's feelings for HS but also about herself. This is going to guide her towards the next step. All this time she was plotting with her friends, but after this conversation I think she will team up with Naeem Bi since she has found out that not only does Naeem Bi know, but that Babita trusts her enough to talk about her deepest fears.
I think they will try to convince HS to express his feelings so that Babita knows that her insecurities were baseless. Babita still has some way to go before she understands the meaning of true, selfless love and HS has to do his bit to reassure her of his commitment. This can only happen if he can convey to her what has been in his heart right from the beginning, if she can see herself through his eyes. In addition, she needs to see him as a flawed human, an imperfect soul like herself with scars of his own. Only then will she consider them both to be equals in this relationship. I think that is what the next track will address.
