Chapter 7 –

Both Kunal & Siddhi have faced harsh reality of their lives and more or less it was sinking in, leaving them emotionally drained from inside and blank on outside. How does one react, behave, say and most importantly; engage with each other in such situation? Both were just passing along days to best they can. They were trying their best to stay busy in any work and not think too much. Siddhi would stay busy with kids, household chores and anything she can find around house. Kunal stayed busy with his 2 jobs. But some days he didn't get to do bar-tending, those days spend longer period by pawai lake, sitting under tree like a stone. Siddhi wanted to do something about Kunal's situation but what? Kunal believed he has only given pain to Siddhi so he tried his best to stay away. Two soul mates; their hearts filled with immense pure love for each other but the guilt and agony of their past built a layer between them. Connected yet not together, not aware what does the future hold.

One evening, Kunal as usual was sitting by Pawai Lake. Tonight he did not have bar-tending job so he thought he will stay there longer. Sitting there like a stone, staring at water, too afraid to think anything as he knew where it may lead to; he was simply there. His silence was soon broken by cell phone ring, it was Anand. Kunal answered the phone. By the time Kunal ended the call, his face turned blue due to intense worry. He literary jumped from his position and went for an auto. Told auto driver to go to his home at fastest speed possible. Kunal appear in extreme hurry, perspiration on his forehead, heartbeats getting more intense and je kept urging auto driver to drive faster. As soon as auto reached his home, Kunal jumped out of auto, gave money to driver without bothering for change and ran into the apartment.

As soon as Kunal entered the apartment he yelled, "Siddhi, Siddhi…" Siddhi was in the bed-room and hearing this she came out, bit surprised. As soon as Siddhi came out Kunal went to her, held her by both arms and started looking at her upside down to see if everything is alright, "are you ok? I am sorry I wasn't here, but you are fine right?" Siddhi didn't understand what happened to Kunal. For weeks he avoided her as much as he can and here he is calling her, holding her so close and now asking if she is ok, not to mention Kunal seems so worried for her? Although she couldn't speak but nodded yes. Seeing this Kunal felt bit relaxed. He held Siddhi close to him in almost protective manner, turned around and said, "what are you doing here? You have no right to be here, just get out."

It was Richa whom Kunal said these words, who was fuming with anger right now looking at Kunal-Siddhi so close while all other family members stood there like statues. Kids were inside bedroom. Anand had called Kunal to inform Richa had come to their house. Somehow Richa managed herself, "Kunal why are you saying that? Ma…"

"Shut up Richa. Nobody cares to hear what you have to say here. Your truth is out in open. We all know what you did 9 years ago……"

"No Kunal, Siddhi is lying to you just like she did before…."

"Don't you dare take Siddhi's name or I will kill you right here." Sudden chill passed through everyone. All were shocked to hear Kunals' words and he seem very serious. Richa too was taken back and got sacred for second there. Siddhi was experiencing mixed feelings. Mostly she was elated given Kunal was holding her so close, something she has been craving for ever and also protecting her against woman who ruined took away her happiness, her Kunal from her 9 years ago. Hearing Kunal's words, she tightens her grip around Kunal and tried her best to get the warmth she was deprived off.

"Kunal, please listen to me" Richa with desperation and fake concern, "you know how much I love. Anything I did is for you and only you. Why can't you still see my love and accept me. You only care about this good for nothing Siddhi. Please listen to me…"

"Get out or I will.." Kunal went towards Richa in attack mode but Siddhi grabbed his hand and held him back with worry on her face. Seeing this Richa turned complete red and was going towards Siddhi but Kunal grabbed her and pushed her towards the door. Then she again went to Siddhi, held her very close to his body in protective manner and stared at Richa with his piercing eyes. Richa wiped off her tears, "I am going for now. But Siddhi I will come back for you. I will nto spare you so easily" walked away with cat-like walk of hers.

Everyone at the house was in complete shock. No one could gather enough energy to say anything or even think correctly. Kunal looked at Siddhi who was holding onto him tightly and he too was holding he very close. For few seconds their eyes met and then he jerked back. He felt very weak and scared his defense might break as he was so close to Siddhi. He looked away from Siddhi, to other family members, anything else just avoiding direct eye contact with Siddhi. But Siddhi kept staring at Kunal, somewhat content in her heart that yes Kunal still loves her very much. Whatever may be the reason, Kunal held her so close and that experience was beyond any words. Like everyone, Kunal was too much distressed due to what just happened. With his head down in very low voice, "all my fault. It all happened just because of me…" with irritated mood he went off to wherever. Give Siddhi was still standing so close, she heard Kunal and automatically her feet went behind Kunal. She got string feeling that Kunal is up to something he should not and that was enough for her.

As she came out of house she saw Kunal get into an auto. She too called another auto to follow Kunal. Auto chase went for 10 minutes and Kunal got off at some weird, somewhat deserted place by industrial site. Siddhi too got off carefully without making her presence known to see what exactly Kunal is doing. Kunal started walking in and soon noise of men yelling, cheering started to come. Few more steps and fighting ring was also somewhat visible due to window. Siddhi too saw that and got extremely worried. She ran towards Kunal yelling his name, "Kunal stop."

Surprised to hear Siddhi's voice, Kunal stopped and looked back; only to get more stunned seeing Siddhi. Siddhi came running to Kunal, trying to catch her breath, teary eyes and ache in her voice she grabbed Kunal's hand, "what you think you are doing? I will not let you walk-in that ring. Why are you hurting yourself so much?"

Kunal released his hand, kept his head down, "leave me. I am not hurting myself. It is my punishment, what I deserve for making your life living hell. Even this is not enough but for time being…"

"Why are you talking like that Kunal? Please you don't need to punish yourself. You didn't do anything then why…" tears heavily flowing out.

"Exactly, I didn't do anything" tears made their way out, "I didn't do anything to save you, protect you when you needed most. You sat in that jail cell for 9 long years. Why? For me. Your fault was that you are my wife and that's why you have suffered best years of your lives. I have ruined your entire life and I must get punished for it. For the rest of my life, I must get punished for pathetic being I am so don't stop me. Go home, just leave" Kunal started walking.

Siddhi again yelled, "Kunal stop. Please stop for family's sake. Please stop for our kids" Kunal kept waking.

"Please stop for me" Kunal couldn't take a step further…….
