Writers' fraternity miffed with ITA (Indian Television Academy Awards)

There is an article about the writers of serials being miffed at ITA for not including the 'best story writer' award in the list of awards. They have given the response of ITA and also the reply by the writers. Though Parichay is not mentioned, it is interesting to see what these people think about story-writing for serials! Check out if interested.

Thanks for sharing Hima. It was quite an interesting read.

Both sides have interesting points but the ITA people make a valid point, Indian television is just an amalgamation of screenplay and dialogues. There is a story, a crux, a concept but shows are stretched for so long that the story becomes like a stale gum that one has been chewing on for too damn long or gets lost in a hurricane of twists, turns, and TRP increasing tracks. Case in point being Parichay, the story is meant to be about a fallen hero who overcomes the hurdles of his life and rises again. The show started on 9th August 2011, and now, exactly 1 year and 3 months later, Kunal sir ji is still the useless loser he was and has only fallen further instead of rising. And the story we are watching is essentially of the Hero and Heroine being in love but the vamps and villains are not letting them unite, which is probably the story of every single television show in India ( 😆 ). Kunal has had no personal or professional success in the last 15 months (except falling in love with Siddhi but they even killed that with the stupid leap) and if the great "story writers" of this show are going to have it their way, he is not going to find any success in the upcoming months as well. Everything has deviated from the initial concept and all we are watching now is a doomed love story.

Not taking away credit from the writers when they do write some great stuff but honestly, they don't deliver what they promise. How can you choose the "Best Story Writer" when most shows spend the entire year showing us everything and anything but the actual/original story that was promised... 😕

@Bold - EK did say in some recent interview that her audience isn't ready for anything but staple fare. If I recollect correctly, she said that the day she feels her audience is ready, she will give them something new😃

@Red - here again it's the audience that is to blame. Like you said the writers do come up with good stuff at times, but it is evidently rejected by an audience who seems to prefer the "staple fare" & thus the meandering plots with a 1000 twists😆

tfs hima.
Both sides have valid points. Nd going by the shows i feel only BV can be nominated as it has a story -same theme nd a moral aftr each epi. None other show has a story based on a topic but flowing up nd dwn with trp. The new show veera looks promising. But it's also true that without the script there wnt b any show.

@red: Oh and when will Ekta Maiyya the almighty think this day will come? 😛

But the point is, if the show was described in the beginning as the story of a fallen hero who struggles to find his way to the top again, isn't this what they should show? 15 months ago Kunal was struggling, 15 months later, he is still struggling. When will he rise as was promised? When Ekta Devi thinks the audience is ready for it? 😕

@blue: I know, the audience is very resistant to new ideas, but with Parichay the writers have NEVER given Kunal the opportunity to be the hero. He is only projected as the HERO when he protects Siddhi, and I love that, BUT his downfall was much greater professionally, and it seems that the downfall is still persistent and more than anything, gold medalist ji hasn't even fought or won a case on his own in the last 15 months of the show.

See, that's just the point, most of the audience seems to be very forgiving when it comes to KC, infact there is a certain section that finds no fault with him at all! I won't touch upon SC here( who IMO is an absurd character herself), mainly bcz the majority audience being female concern themselves more with the male in this show😆

Personally, I think there is a method to EK's madness, I'm embarrassed to admit it, but she does have her audience figured out. When an average girl/woman from the masses, watches this show or like you pointed out any of the other Indian shows... unconsciously they send out thanks for their own lives in comparison to the lead's... The thought they take to bed subliminally is that their life isn't a bed of roses, but atleast it's not as bad as SiNal's, their hubby/father isn't the gem they had wished for but atleast he isn't as useless as KC😆 Seeing their favorite couple unhappy makes many of them feel warm & secure in their own hell holes.
Look at it this way...KC makes some of the worst husbands look like bright, upright men & for this reason he must continue to fall, for his niggardly ways are responsible for maintaining the sanctity of marriage & family life in many a household😆
