TV characters no longer memorable: Samir Soni

TV is no longer giving viewers memorable characters like it used to, says actor Samir Soni. So, it is important for actors to be loyal to their roles and for viewers to speak out against senseless storylines, he adds.

"I keep trying (to ask for changes) because I don't like to fool the audience. If you look into history, we have had shows like 'Hum Log', 'Nukkad', 'Khandaan', people still remember Basesar, Nanhe. They remember characters," the 44-year-old said on the sets of daily soap "Parichay Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka" here Friday.

"These days, shows run for six or nine months, and in the twists and turns, you forget the name of the characters. This loyalty towards characters is important and I fight for it daily. Ekta (Kapoor) is fed up with me. But I can't help it," said Samir, who plays the character named Kunal in the serial.

Samir wants the audience to send their feedback which can help dispel notions that TV serials are senseless dramas.

"Please give your feedback. Tell the channel what you want because people believe that a daily show can show anything. You go from here to there suddenly. Faces change. Wake up in the morning and 20 years have passed and even the clothes do not change. Anything happens. The mother looks younger than the daughter. Everything. Because people think no one is bothered," Samir said.

On the big screen, Samir has worked in "China Gate", "Lajja", "Baghban", "Vivaah", "Fashion" and "I Hate Luv Storys".

Very well said. Indian television shows in general do a great job of underestimating the viewers intelligence. Maybe because they assume that the idiot box watching audience are idiots themselves. It definitely is time to dispel some of these stupid notions of the makers.

Thanks for sharing.

I would not entirely fault the makers for the crap being dished out , ultimately what they show is what they feel will sell , so if we don't like something we have to speak out else how would they know?😉Nowadays with the omnipresent social networking sites this is a lot easier! But people have to decide to speak up , thinking "this is a daily soap and this is what it will have" isn't going to help!😉

Like Annie mentioned long back 'The audience is the BOSS out here', so exercise the power!😉

But yes it's a different issue with Parichay makers because no matter how much we offer suggestions they still dish out crap!😡

We have been giving our feed back but somehow it is being fed backwards by the makers of this show! I am surprised SS is so openly saying that he is unhappy with the tracks!
