A person who wants to make a difference can be anyone, Thimakka native of Hulikal village in Bangalore rural district Karnataka, a causal laborer is an environmentalist- a perfect example for everyone to see what they can do if they have the will. She along with her husband planted 284 banyan tress, along a four kilometer stretch of highway from their meager resources.
The asset value of 284 trees have been assessed at around 1.5million rupees, the government of Karnataka have taken over the management of these trees now.Her work has been honoured with the national citizen's award of India. A US environmental organisation in LA and Oakland, California called Thimmakka's resources for environmental education is named after her.
