@them leaving, well it impacts the income. They may have savings, but what if this small break turns lengthy? There is a lot of uncertainty in this industry.
@decreasing fans, I see what you're saying. Some have already moved on. But if they quit > something doesn't work out or gets shelved after pilot > this break turns lengthy, they'd still lose fans. Because out of sight, out of mind. This allows them to at least be in sight from time to time. Plus they have income inflow. And I'm pretty sure with PR and all, they are looking for other better projects. Likely as leads and with salary that matches their experience and talent. There's a lot of competition, and ITV doesn't care for talent always. They believe that the actors will "grow" into it or it will be meme content. Hence, they're going to get competition from not only existing pool of artists, but also newbies. And in this market, there's competition from influencers as well because of their reach. Hence, even if they're looking, we will never hear of anything until something is materialized.
Both know their finances the best, and they have to secure future too. Them sticking with the show for income while finding other projects is wise- especially in current economy.
