I've been around since the beginning in this forum and noticed an increasing frequency of opinions about how the makers might not have anticipated ShiVi's popularity, envisioned Dhara as lead etc etc over time. I don't really get this, though, WHY would they not anticipate the popularity? It's a remake with an original and about 8 other versions to take reference from and ALL of the regional shows witnessed the same trend - a boom in ratings and popularity upon introduction of the ShiVi ship, as well as a gradual limelight on their story above others whilst keeping the family drama balanced and fair to all characters. The audience wanted ShiVi and makers and actors didn't have a fuss accepting it and serving what sold.
It's been the exact same for every single version.
So why didn't makers expect that? Why didn't certain actors expect that if they'd done their homework before signing up? Idk what's happening behind the scenes that has thrown this beautiful ensemble with a lot of scope to the wolves but it's definitely not the popular sentiment of unexpected audience feedback from what I gather. I don't mean to offend anybody, just putting this out here because it's been on my mind for a while.
Like Prema here, I was excited to see the ITV adaptation of PS cz I knew the og plotline and wanted to see how they'd play out ShiVi mostly. My regional version closely follows the og but I never watched. Mainly because of disinterest but also too much misogyny and toxicity. I was excited to find ShiVi on equal footing here and a more inclusive attitude in the family (initially).
Felicie, I agree with everything you said.
I am not going to say anything when others think that the makers didn’t expect Shiva- Raavi to be famous,
I beg to differ with all of them here. The makers knew exactly that Shiva- Raavi will be famous still chose to show BhabiMa’s story.
Pandian Stores did not have a preleap. It started with family introductions and relationships, marriage preparation and within 2 months of the show marriage happened. That was the turning point of the show.
Kathir- Mullai the most famous jodi of all the regional versions O have ever seen and every other KM jodi be in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada have a fan base of their own.
But KM are still watched by Telugu and Malayalam audience till date. I have many friends from those states who got hooked on to their version only after watching KM tracks and scenes
KM vms, scenes in youtube each one tops 500K views and sometimes many cross a million.
The makers of this version are very well aware of Shiva- Raavi’s popularity and how iconic they will be. But in the original version, actors don’t get involved in demanding, that is one close knit group of actors I have seen and they are there for each other all the time.
Chithu, who acted as Mullai passed away after being in the show for 2 years, hence they had to replace her.
Likewise the actor who played Janu also passed away so they had to bring a replacement.
Else the OG cast which started 3 years ago are still very much together.
I will conclude by saying, makers knew about the popularity, hence the delay in starting the track and still continue to ignore to some extent all because of politics which is not there in the original.
