I don't really get this, though, WHY would they not anticipate the popularity? It's a remake with an original and about 8 other versions to take reference from and ALL of the regional shows witnessed the same trend - a boom in ratings and popularity upon introduction of the ShiVi ship, as well as a gradual limelight on their story above others whilst keeping the family drama balanced and fair to all characters. The audience wanted ShiVi and makers and actors didn't have a fuss accepting it and serving what sold.

It's been the exact same for every single version.

So why didn't makers expect that? Why didn't certain actors expect that if they'd done their homework before signing up? Idk what's happening behind the scenes that has thrown this beautiful ensemble with a lot of scope to the wolves but it's definitely not the popular sentiment of unexpected audience feedback from what I gather. I don't mean to offend anybody, just putting this out here because it's been on my mind for a while.

Like Prema here, I was excited to see the ITV adaptation of PS cz I knew the og plotline and wanted to see how they'd play out ShiVi mostly. My regional version closely follows the og but I never watched. Mainly because of disinterest but also too much misogyny and toxicity. I was excited to find ShiVi on equal footing here and a more inclusive attitude in the family (initially).

Felicie, I agree with everything you said.

I am not going to say anything when others think that the makers didn’t expect Shiva- Raavi to be famous,

I beg to differ with all of them here. The makers knew exactly that Shiva- Raavi will be famous still chose to show BhabiMa’s story.

Pandian Stores did not have a preleap. It started with family introductions and relationships, marriage preparation and within 2 months of the show marriage happened. That was the turning point of the show.
Kathir- Mullai the most famous jodi of all the regional versions O have ever seen and every other KM jodi be in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada have a fan base of their own.

But KM are still watched by Telugu and Malayalam audience till date. I have many friends from those states who got hooked on to their version only after watching KM tracks and scenes

KM vms, scenes in youtube each one tops 500K views and sometimes many cross a million.

The makers of this version are very well aware of Shiva- Raavi’s popularity and how iconic they will be. But in the original version, actors don’t get involved in demanding, that is one close knit group of actors I have seen and they are there for each other all the time.
Chithu, who acted as Mullai passed away after being in the show for 2 years, hence they had to replace her.

Likewise the actor who played Janu also passed away so they had to bring a replacement.

Else the OG cast which started 3 years ago are still very much together.

I will conclude by saying, makers knew about the popularity, hence the delay in starting the track and still continue to ignore to some extent all because of politics which is not there in the original.

Well I don't know about og versions , I haven't seen them, never heard about that show as well so u can't say anything about the popularity but here itv version they casted senior actors for those roles and it was expected that they will demand certain stuff and the main thing is here makers are out of their creative senses😔

So the makers know everything, have a solid og script to follow, know what the audience wants to see and still decide to turn a blind eye to everything.kya hi kahu.koi apni khudki banayi huyi kahani kaise kharab kar sakta hai? 😆

No wonder the og version is so popular and the itv version is struggling to maintain its position in the top 10.

To talk about KM’s popularity- today’s synopsis of the OG also included tje followimg - Kathir-Mullai discuss their future.

KM still get several scenes to this date and they only keep getting better and better.

Inspite of Chithu’s death, who made Mullai, an icon, her replacement Kavya is still doing an amazing job. KM fan base is still intact, though they all keep saying that they miss Chthu as Mullai.

If a jodi and show still manages to maintain its popularity and position despite replacement of an actor, I can imagine how strong the writing and characterization must be.

Kudos to the makers of the og version 👏

I'd say in general that politics behind the screen in tamil or other regional TV shows are less. This is pan India, and all the actors or actresses involved tend to simply be more connected, have more reach.

But another thing is that shows like the OG, to tamilians, isn't a novel thing! Although, yes, our regional shows tend to be more about the females, with strong FLs, MLs have never been a prop the way they've been here. In hindi serials, it's either saas bahu, or it's star crossed lovers. I've rarely seen shows that aren't either.

The only thing that sets the OG apart to me, is the equal ss to male characters, as opposed to the ML, despite being a strong character, having secondary ss. The star crossed lovers, passionate lovers trope, the excessive drama, are all only now being introduced in our regional shows. And vijay TV shows, the tamil counterpart to SP, has a good balance of romantic and such family based shows.

So, this is a relatively new trope to ITV, such a wholesome family watch like the OG, and they had such potential to develop it so that they could have become trendsetters. And instead, they've tried to force a hate-love, marriage-nearly divorce trope where they could've shown a great slow burn (again, something normal in regional shows), forced Gaura to act like a couple who got married just now because leads not being romantic simply isn't possible!

Repeating Shiva's line, nakal main bhi akkal zaruri hain. And to add to that, tadka lagane ka yeh matlab nahi, ki jo haath main lage daalte jao, phir khane laayak kuch bachega nahi.

Pixie, AFAIK having watched both the OG and this version from the beginning, only the marriage track was copied exactly. This version has later used some of the dialogues of KM scenes but the tracks have been completely different.

The best of all was to see Mullai’s change of attitude towards Kathir, Meena’s tremendous growth from being a rich spoilt brat to getting adjusted in a joint family and Kathir’s transformation - not his physical appearance as he still looks the same, dresses the same, but his transformation from being an angry- hate filled young man to the most loving husband, who has even said that he puts Mullai at the same level as his BhabiMa, if not higher.

IDK, why makers think the tracks won’t work here because it isn’t too over the top or too dramatic. They can try one other track and see.

@bold will shiva ever say this to raavi? 😭

Character arc is something they really need to learn from og.i was surprised at Dev's behaviour after marriage and I remember how you had said that Dev had a good redemption track in the og and he apologized to both shiva and raavi right after marriage and the audience also symphatized with him.

Yahan par to character arc chodo, dev doesn't have anything to do.

Rishitas character growth should have been slow and gradual like Meena but they have made her so inconsistent here.she flips now and then.

The only character they had established well was shiva.but the disha track spoilt that too.

How I wish some other set of makers would have adapted the og version with the same set of actors and I could have seen this beautiful story unfold 😒

I think the tracks will definitely work.they really need to try and see.

They would be in the top 10 consistently if they copied the OG and just added some logical drama.

You know why Kathir is still untainted and stands tall because there was no divorce track track nor a Disha track and Mulali’s firm standing that she will not leave him or he should think about leaving her, whatever differences they had, they will talk and work it out.
The insecurity track was handled very differently in the OG and was relatable. 2 years later Mullai was instrumental in Kathir finishing his schooling.
