A Road to Realisation
Things have started to become a bit more normal between Shiva and Raavi. Him coming back to the room, the bike rides and of course his apology has made Raavi content for the time being.
The little happiness she gets seeing Shiva when he comes back from the store was enough for her to spend her next day waiting for him.
Shiva was running late today. He used to come back by 8 but tonight it was already 10 and he was not answering his phone. This made Raavi a bit worried.
“Why is it taking so long for him to come?” She asked Gautam hoping to get an answer from him.
“Do not worry, he usually comes back late whenever there is some delivery at the store. He will come back only after setting the store. You eat dinner with us. Come!” Gautam tried to pacify her.
She was siting in the angan and waiting for him; it was already 11 and everybody had retired to their room when she heard a thud in their room. A small smile made its way to her face knowing well that her monkey has came back.
“You are late.” She said entering the room, scaring an unexpecting Shiva.
“Yeah. We had some delivery at the store…”
“Do you want to have dinner now?” Raavi said cutting him off.
“Yeah. I am starving.”
When he came back after changing clothes he saw Raavi setting two plates for dinner.
“Why did you not eat? You should have. You do not have to follow those rituals like woman should not eat before her husband. I do not believe in all that.”
Raavi simply nodded her head and went to the kitchen to bring the special sabzi she made for him.
“Did mom tell you to not to eat before me? Oh God! I will talk to her.”
“Oh please! I will never do anything like that. If I were hungry, I would have eaten the food but I did not because…” she was trying to say something sensible in front of him and not to make a fool of herself.
“Because??” Shiva whispered coming close to her.
“Because I was worried for you, like crazy worried. You did not tell me in the morning that you will be late. I got so worked up.”
Shiva was simply looking at her. A few days back he was planning to divorce her but today, he cannot even imagine his life without her. She, on the other hand, has realised that two people can be different from each other in everything, yet they can be perfect together.
“I am sorry. From next time, I will be more careful.” Shiva said holding his ear with one hand.
Raavi simply smiled and served him dinner. He took the first bite and knew that Raavi made baingan for him, again.
It was their own little secret that Raavi will make aubergine for him whenever he upsets Raavi. It was Raavi’s way of punishing him by giving him a dish that he loathes.
“You know naa I do not like baingan this much.” He said.
“It is your punishment for letting me worry about you and not telling me about your schedule. Now, eat.”
They ate in silence with a little chit chat in between. Raavi was taking the dishes back to the kitchen when Shiva followed her to the kitchen.
“By the way, a confession, I started liking baingan the first time you made it. So it is not really a punishment.”
Raavi looked at him and simply said “I know” and carried on with her dishes.
“I wish you knew a few other things also.” Shiva mumbled.
“Did you say something?” Raavi asked to which Shiva simply said “Nope” and left for their room.
“Oh God! Give me the strength to have self-control. I cannot push myself on her. She needs time. I will tell her after some time what I have been feeling. It has taken a long time for me to realise that but I do not want to take so long to confess. Soon, Raavi, soon.” He promised himself and dozed off.
