“Raavi , tu ready hogayi? Sab log aane lage hai” Dhara said while walking with a gajra in her hand
“Haan bas ek minute” Raavi replied while filling her partition with a pinch of vermillion
“Haan ab ho gayi” she murmured before having a look at the mirror
“Nahi hui” she added with a sad look while caressing her neck
“Tu yeh gajra pehen” dhara said, until she noticed raavi’s neck
“Tera mangalsutra?” she asked questioningly
Raavi couldn't help but nod.
Neither of them noticed shiva, who was admiring his wife until a second ago.
He felt terrible when his mother made Raavi take off her mangalsutra, the look on Raavi’s face broke him further. Back then he was helpless, but today he would get her the rights she deserved. Shiva made his way to Suman’s room with determination
“Chal shiva, itna kya darr raha hai. Sirf ek mangalsutra hi toh lena hai” he told himself while entering her room
“Ayy petticoat chap, yahan kya kar raha hai?” suman asked
“Woh woh main-” he stuttered, unable to form words
“Woh woh kya?”
“Maa , mein raavi ka mangalsutra lene aaya tha” he blurted with his eyes shut
“Tu bhi ban gaya na apne bade bhaiyon ki tarah, petticoat chap” she said sarcastically
“Uss ladki ne tujhe chota mehsus karwaya. Aur tu uske liye yeh sab kar raha hai? Ussne toh tujhpe haat bhi uttaya hai shiva” she said assertively
“Haan toh maine bhi kabhi usse koi wajah nahi diya ki woh mujhse izzat se baat karre. Agar baat thappad ki hai toh maine bhi kuch kam galtiyaan nahi ki hai maa. Maine uske charitra pe sawaal uthaya hai.” he said with his head hung low in shame
“Tune woh sab gusse mein kiya” she tried to reason
“Raavi ne bhi mujhe gusse mein hi maara hai Maa. Aur usne sahi cheez ki hai. Aap khud socho, agar apki ek beti hoti aur uska pati bhare bazaar mein uske izzat pe sawaal uthaye toh aap usse kya salah deti? Yeh ki usse chup chap sab kuch sehen karna chahiye ya phir yeh ki uss insaan ko ek kheench ke lagaye aur uski akal tikhane lagaye”
Suman was beyond shocked at Shiva’s reasoning. But as much as she hated to admit it, he was right. If she had a daughter and someone misbehaved with her. Suman Pandya would’ve buried the person underground the very next second. Why did she fail to see Raavi’s hurt and pain. Just because she isn't the daughter of her family doesn't give her the right to overlook her son’s mistake.
“Maa, Raavi ne mujhe kabhi khud se chota samajhne pe majboor nahi kiya. Lekin agar aaj main apni patni ka haq usse nahi dila paaya toh mein khud ki nazron mein zaroor gir jaunga” he added honestly
Suman remained still, staring at her son. She swiftly moved to her wardrobe and took Raavi’s nuptial chain and held it in her fist.
Raavi, who made her way to Suman’s room in an attempt to get back her nuptial chain, was in tears listening to the conversation that just took place between the duo.
Confusion clearly visible in shiva’s face
“Aise kya dekh raha hai?” she asked
“Ayy markundi gay, aise bahar hi khade rahegi ya phir andar bhi aayegi” she called out
Shiva turned to see Raavi staring at him intently. Her eyes showed a lot of emotions at that very moment. Raavi took small steps inside the room standing beside shiva.
Suman signed Shiva to forward his hand
“Yeh le teri biwi ki amanat”
Shiva gladly held the chain which he had put around her neck a few months ago. He turned to have a look at Raavi who now wasn't trying to hide her tears. The only change from then to now was that the tears that freely flowed from his legally wedded wife were the ones of happiness this time.
“Sirf ek dusre ko tadte rahoge ya phir mangalsutra pehnaye ga bhi” Krish nudged shiva while successfully bring them out of their reverie
Neither of them knew when the entire family made their way to Suman's room. While taking steady steps towards raavi. Shiva was holding the chain with both his hands ,his fingers making their way to her neck, successfully securing them together.
"Thank you, mujhe mere haq dilane ke liye" She whispered. Her words barely audible.
The satisfied smile of Shiva’s face gave her the confirmation that her message reached <3
