Second Chance
It was the D-day. Shiva was going to get engaged to Disha at her home. It was a small intimate ceremony as requested by Shiva. He was having a tough time trying to make sense of everything. Just then, the door of his room opened and Dev came inside.
âAre you ready?â He asked.
âYeah. Almost.â Shiva replied in a jiffy. He did not want Dev to notice his puffy eyes.
âI guess you will never be ready for what you are planning to do.â Devâs words surprised Shiva.
âListen, I wonât say that I am the right person to counsel you but I have been in your shoes. I know it better than anyone. What you are going to do will not do good for anyone, trust me. You will be in a loveless marriage.â Dev said.
âI have told Disha that I donât love her; she has no problem with it.â Shiva said looking at the wall straight ahead. He was unable to look at Dev.
âHer love would be enough for you two?â Dev questioned him.
Shiva was not able to form words so Dev continued.
âThe guilt will always be with me for what I did to Raavi. It is a burden I have to bear for my whole life. That feeling is something I donât want you to have. But you know what, one good thing that came out of it; we were not trapped in a marriage where there was no love. That would have been my biggest guilt.â
Shiva was trying to make sense of Devâs words. Shiva in his heart knew that what he was doing is wrong but still, his mind was trying to make sense of it.
âRaavi doesnât love me.â Shiva replied.
âDid she say that?â Dev asked.
âNo but I know her, I am not someone she would ever love.â
âYou and your assumptions.â Dev rolled his eyes and continued putting some sense into his brotherâs pea sized brain.
âEven if she doesnât, but you do love her and donât even try to deny it. We all know. That doesnât mean you have to jump into another marriage after your divorce. Give some time to yourself to heal.â Devâs words started making sense to him. Shiva was surprised at how his brother understood the labyrinth his mind had become.
Shiva realised that he can move on at his own pace, he doesnât have to get into a relationship just because his mom felt like it.
âCan you tell mom and others that I donât want to get married?â Shiva requested Dev.
âWhat!! Why should I do it? Tell them yourself.â Dev told him and a smile was plastered on Shivaâs face.
âBecause I need to talk to Raavi. She should know. I donât care what she will say but she deserves to know. Better late than never.â Shiva hugged Dev and ran from the room.
âI need to talk to Dhara bhabhi and Rishita, they can handle mom.â Dev talked to himself and left the room.
Meanwhile at Raaviâs house, she was busy going through her diary. Every memory with Shiva that she had written in her diary, it was giving her pain.
âIt was so easy for him to forget everythingâŚâ just then Shiva jumped inside from the window. He did not use the door because of his mammi.
âIt was not easy, in fact it is not easy.â He told her.
âWhat are you doing here? Why are you here? You should be at your engagement party, no?â She said everything in one breath.
âI am not getting engaged. At least, not right now.â Raavi heaved a sigh of relief but that relief was overtaken by fear of what Shiva was about to say.
âListen Raavi, I am not here to say anything out of this world. I want to say what I should have said long back. I want to say I am sorry for what you have been through because of me and my family; we donât deserve someone like you.â Shiva was trying to calm himself when he saw Raavi just looking at him with tears in her eyes.
Shiva was about to leave when he heard Raavi sniffling.
âIs there anything else you want to say?â Raavi said.
âWould it matter to you what I want to say?â Shiva asked looking straight into her eyes.
âWouldnât have asked if it didnât.â
âListen Raavi, I donât have this habit of talking non sense, like you.â This brought a smile on their faces because this was a reflection that things will be normal between them, eventually. âI have been horrible to you all my life but you have seen me at my most vulnerable and you are the only one who makes me vulnerable. You deserve the world which I cannot give...â Seeing Raaviâs face without any expression, he felt like a fool.
âWhat can you give me?â Raavi whispered.
âMyselfâ and that was all the confirmation that Raavi needed before jumping on to him.
They hugged each other for about 2 minutes. They both knew that their marriage deserves a second chance; this is what they decided to do. This time, both knew in their hearts that it will be a happily ever after.
