Yeah, it happened in the US (Rhode Island, and not the Southern Belt to be more precise). The mother was American, she grew up in the US, and she pulled her daughter out of school (daughter is fully homeschooled so she does not have a chance to get Sex Ed)... They are a devout Christian family... and most people who are unaware of Sex Ed come from devout religious backgrounds where they believe chastity is the "gold" standard...
I watched a TLC episode on this in the past, and it's really sad how most of their Sex Ed comes the night before their marriage
What sucks about this is that Sex Ed isn't just about sexual intercourse. It's about learning how your own body works. By denying this knowledge, we are inadvertently teaching younger girls to be ashamed of their own bodies and that is incredibly sad and wrong. So many insecurities that girls might develop at that tender age could be prevented if they just knew more about themselves.
