Chapter 2
// Cordolium //
[ (n.) Heartache; Heartfelt sorrow ]
Raavi was seething, positively seething as she rushed out of the house, had she stayed any longer go knows what she would have said to the woman who had insulted her parents, to the woman who was her mother in law, unfortunately. She had always respected Suman kaki because she thought that she was a level headed person, someone who wouldnât play favourites, someone who was able to distinguish between right and wrong. While she had accepted the fact that the mishap in front of the entire town was both of their fault, she couldnât bring herself to understand what happened to her Shiva, where was the Shiva who did what he wanted to? Where was that unapologetic and flamboyant Shiva of hers? Who was this man in front of her? Her eyes stung from unshed tears, she wanted her Shiva back.
Shiva walked outside, greeted by Raaviâs shaking form, his heart wrenched as he saw her, shaking, her fists balled up, knuckles white, her eyes heavy with unshed tears, he felt himself tear up as he looked at her, she was in so much pain, pain he put her in. He needed to get her out of the phase she was in, he couldnât let her go like this.
âRaaviâ
His voice brought her out of her stupor and she felt herself get angry at him, why she didnât know, well maybe she did, but she was angry, and she needed to scream at him, she turned around, facing away from him, showing to him her anger, almost expecting him to turn away like he usually did, but he didnât, he came closer, his fingers curling around her tightly closed fists, she trembled as his touch warmed her, she didnât want to soften, a mere touch from him couldnât do that to her.
He sensed her reluctance, well that was expected, he couldnât expect her to be demure and acquiescent, he had wronged her and he had to correct his mistake, he had to apologise. Grabbing her he lead to the bike, there was a spot he knew he could take her, where it would be just the both of them, surprisingly she walked with him and got on behind him. Within the next half an hour they were at the outskirts of the city, by the woods. She held onto tighter as he led the bike into the woods, her nails digging into his nails, she felt a weird sense of satisfaction as his winced lightly at the feel of her nails piercing his skin.
As he lead the bike deeper into the woods, she moved closer to him, she didnât like the possibility of getting lost in the woods much, not that she didnât trust her husband. Soon enough he had them stopping at a little cabin, it was made entirely of wood, and had a little fence all around it, the cabin itself was beautiful, with high sloping triangular roofs, the area in which it was built was also pretty large, Raavi looked around, confused. Where had this man gotten her?
Shiva smiled, Chipkali was sufficiently confused, he parked inside and got off the bike, her in tow, heading her long with him he walked in, his cabin, his safe haven, only he and kaka knew of this place, and now Raavi.
She walked in silently, he must have wanted to talk to her. She let him lead her in, deciding to get angry at him once they were inside.
âRaavi, woh mainâ
Just as he started Raavi turned away from him, indicating her displeasure and anger. While Shiva stood there, taking in the sight of her anger. He took a few hesitant steps forward, he needed to talk to her, they were supposed to get divorced tomorrow, he couldnât put it off any longer.
âRaavi sunn naâ
Anger bubbled up inside her and she struggled to contain it, a hot bolt of emotion cursed through her, he wanted her to listen? What about all the times she begged him to listen to her? Why should she listen to him, but she knew she couldnât let anger take control of her, she needed to be rational, she let her shoulder slump lightly, she turned towards him, preparing herself for what was to come. This conversation could make or break them, and she just hoped the both of them would stay sane and level-headed through out.
âRaavi, woh main, I am sorryâ
Her eyes widened and he realised how stupid he sounded, before he could say anything though her cool and detached voice cut through, the barely
concealed anger and hurt in her tone scared him, bottomless.
âKis liyeâ
âSab kuch, I am sorry, for everythingâ
She chuckled, looking into his eyes, her face reflected mirth and her eyes, her calm and loving eyes reflected a storm, one that he would get swept away in. He had expected her to get angry at his meek apology, but he didnât expect he to laugh, her little chuckle sent a cold shiver up his spine.
âAbhi kyun sorry Shiva, tujhe jo karna tha tune kiya, abb kyun maafi, aur kis cheez ke liye maafi.â
âRaavi, wohâ
âKYA WOH HAAN, KYA WOH WOHâ
Shiva took a step back, shocked at the way she burst, to her credit though, it was high time. Her eyes darkened, indicating her anger, fury burnt in her eyes like an inferno, but he was determined, he would go through the inferno. He would burn a hundred times, over and over again, if that meant it would give her some respite.
âRaavi please sunn le meri baatâ
âBolâ
At her consent he went ahead, looking into her eyes, facing the fury and questions present in them.
âMain tujhe divorce nahi dena chahta tha, mujhe laga ki tu mujhse better deserve karti hai, main tere layaak nahi tha Raavi, tu soch, ti Somnath ki sabse khoobsurat ladki aur main? Main ekk chalet phirta kirane ki dukaan, main ekk gawar, tu kahan main kahan Raavi, mujhe laga ki tu mujhse peecha chudwaake khush rahegi, issiliye tujhe talaaq ke papers bhijwaye maine, par phir tu waapas aayi, aur phir Maa Disha ki leke aagayi, aur tere reactions dekhke mujhe lagne laga ki tu bhi parwah karti hai mera, ki tujhe bhi mere saath rehna thaâ
As he spoke, he saw the way her anger reduced, until only pain reflected in those once bright orbs. His heart hurt when all he could find was pain, pain and longing. What had he made of her?
Her eyes stung once again, a feeling she was wholly used to. She shook slightly. Grabbing his arms she shook him, as harshly as she could before collapsing in his arms. As his hold tightened around her, she sunk to the floor, taking him along with her. Tears started to pour out of her eyes, it was while before she spoke.
âTune bhi wohi kiya Shiva, tune bhi sab ki tarha mere liye faisla le liya, mujhe bina kuch bole, bina mujhse baat kiye, pasand aane laga tha Shiva, tu mujhe pasand aane laga tha, tere sang zindagi bitane ke sapne dekhti rahi, aur tune hi unti bedardi se mere sapne tod diye, jaise sab karte haiâ
She cried in his embrace, feeling lighter as she complained to him, even it it was about him, her heart felt lighter, for once she had a little bot of hope again, maybe just maybe heâd listen. He cried at her tears, at the pain he caused her. She burrowed further into his lap and his held her tight.
âMaaf karde, ekk aakhri baarâ
She nodded, looking up at him, her eyes still guarded, but now he saw hope spark through. They didnât know who leaned forward, but their lips met and she forgot everything else, he tasted of spice and mint, his beard scratched at her lips and she tasted tears as their mouths melded together, he relished the taste of honey and her faint cherry lip balm as he licked into her mouth, the taste of her too heady to think of anything else.
They broke apart, but lay there on the floor in each others embrace, he shifted slightly as he rested his back against the sofa there. She spoke a while later.
âGhar?â
âHmmm, nahi nahi jaana, pehle tu yeh bol tune mujhe maaf kiya ke nahi, maaf karde, sorry, phir kabhi nahi rulaongaâ
She stared at him bewildered, he was rambling on and on apologising constantly, and honestly she just wanted him to shut up, grabbing his collar, she pulled him to her, kissing him lightly, his arms tightened around her waist instantly and she smirked, one of her hands buried itself in his hair and tugged, he let out a groan and she stopped kissing him, controlling herself, the taste of his lips had become an instant addiction for her.
He let out a sound of protest and she smirked, moving deeper into his lap, she let his collar go and traced her fingers down his face, settling at his cheek, smiling with satisfaction as he leaned into her palm.
âShivaâ
She rasped into his ear, noticing as minute hairs stood up on the nape of his neck
âHmmmâ
âKal, I want my Shiva back, phir maafi milegiâ
She felt him smile and nod against her, his arms holding her tight. They kissed again, for a long while after that, slow, soft and then fast and rushed. They let go a while after that, knowing it was time to go back home and face the torrent of questions they knew they would face.
As they reached home they were greeted by the sight of the entire family in the aangan, Dhara was pacing around anxious, in her defence though they were out way too long for no one to take notice. As the family looked at the couples happy faces and entwined hands they smiled in relief, happy for their happiness.
Suman on the other hand wasnât so happy, she didnât want this markhundi gaay to be her daughter in law anymore, she was waiting to pounce on them, and just then Shiva spoke.
âDivorce cancelâ
Those words were enough for the family to heave sighs of relief, but Suman thundered out, beyond angry.
âAYE, KYA MAZAAK SAMAJH RAKHA HAI KYA TUM DONO NE SHAADI KOâ
âMaaââ
âTu chup reh, tu bhi petticoat chaap bann chuka hai, apni maa ki baat nahi maan raha hai tuâ
âMaa, mujhe Raavi ke saath hi rehna haiâ
Suman tried to reign in her anger, and spoke once again, hoping she would be able to get things to go her way, it wasnât usually that hard for her and Shiva was her most obedient son out of all 4 of them.
âAgar yeh maanti nahi, toh phir kya karta tu haan?â
âYeh maanti nahi, toh main isse apni marzi ki karne deta maaâ
âDisha se shaadi karta?â
âNahi, Raavi ka manne ye na manne se mera faisla nahi badal tha, mujhe Disha mein koi intrest nahi hai maa, mujhe woh pasand hi nahi, maine yeh baat usse bhi bola thaâ
âParr Shivaââ
Shiva cut her off with his palm raised and walked off to their room, clutching Raaviâs hand, much to the pleasure of the family and disdain of the matriarch. This wasnât done, Shiva was her son, at the end of the day he had to listen to her, she wouldnât allow him to become another petticoat chaap.
The lovers however were least concerned, they knew they had each other, come what storm.
