APPREHENSIONS
The moment he had left, she let go her breath that she had held on to for so long. She was beyond infuriated, not just for being forgetful of the fact that they shared the room, but also the gentlemanly way in which he had behaved today. When she tripped on the shampoo bottle and fell straight into the tub, drenched in water and foam head-to-toe, a part of her was also mentally preparing herself for the verbal missiles which would be launched any moment.
But the atmosphere was strangely quite and while she waited with bated breath, she could not help but wonder what was making his 'bhootnath' take so long. Wait, did she call her 'his' ? She was about to reprimand herself when she felt him move out of the tub. Okay, maybe now was the time for the battle to begin. Odd moments of silence followed again. And then she could see his extended hands, reaching out to her. Not a glimpse, not a glance, he did not even look at her once. Did he really hate her to this extent ? But if he really did, he would have left her inside the tub which he did not. This seldom seen side of his often set her perplexed. Or maybe he just wanted her to stand upto him before then 'jung' began. But, instead he handed her the towel and left without uttering a word.
The entire sequence of events left her utterly confused. She could not help stopping this feeling of 'mush' spreading throughout her insides. This was not the first time since her wedding fiasco that he had cared for her. But this was the first time her always crowded mental space was comparatively unoccupied that she could make some realizations in her head.
Weren't realizations supposed to bring clarity ? Then, how was she feeling all the more confused now. Damn! She couldn't help but recall the bonfire day, when he had walked in as he always did, busy with chores as always, unaware of all pair of eyes set upon him - some in awe and others in wonder. Though she would never admit this to him, he really looked edible. Wait ! where were her manners ? But again, there was nothing too wrong about using this word either. He was her 'husband' after all. She often wondered how this word always brought upon a different emotion .
Truth be told they were mostly on the negative side. But today it was apprehension that she felt. Where were they both heading to? What will be the fate of their alliance? For the moment, she felt these questions were way too heavy for her already burdened shoulders. So she decided to set into her bubble again. Where was she? Yes, edible! She could not help but recall the day he collided with her shirtless. A blush crept on her cheeks as she watched herself in the mirror, busy drying her hair.
Again, she remembered the day he had pulled her to himself, her dark, long tresses caressing his face. For a moment she felt she would be drowned in the depth of those eyes that were locked unto hers, their emotions changing faster than time it seemed. Thankfully, he snapped her back to reality with his favouriate nickname for her.
It was then that reality dawned upon her. It was in these tender, delicate moments that she would forget everything other than him. This was a new and unexplored territory nobody had ever ventured into. But the question was did she like this unexpected intrusion ?
Honestly, he had never needed her permission for it seemed her inner being had never felt any 'apprehensions' after all !
