Every character in this show has good traits and bad traits. Here's a list, feel free to add yours!

Dhara:

+VE: caring, loving, sweet sister, and mother figure to the brothers, took their responsibility when it would have been easier to be selfish and only worry about her marriage or throw them out of the house, gave unconditional love to the boys, sacrificed being a mother to raise the boys, wants to do right by everyone, can stand up to people when needed, kind, respectful, loyal, has a big heart, doesn't hold grudges, has worked hard to keep the family together, knows the importance of family, has brought the family together for sure! Excellent wife to Gaumbi.

-VE: too righteous, thinks what she thinks everyone should follow, doesn't allow others to process their emotions, and expects everyone to be a robot and just forget emotions instead of working through them, don't like her using physical abuse to punish the boys, unfair to expect others to do what she wants, can be backwards in her ideas incompatible with today's world, always telling others what to do instead of listening to them, is a doormat for everyone to come to clean their dirty shoes on her, doesn't stand up for herself, allows others to walk all over her. possibly has brain damage from all the lectures, doesn't use her math skills anymore, more time is spend in lecturing 😆 Needs a psychiatrist!

Gaumbi

+VE: sweet brother and father figure to the brothers, took their responsibility when it would have been easier to walk away, unconditional love for his family, understanding, good at putting his point across to make everyone understand, hard-working, loyal, honest, full of hope, believes in his family, respectful, good to those around him, has a good heart, speaks up and stands up for his loved ones, has a big heart, doesn't hold grudges. Excellent husband to Dhara.

-VE: too righteous at times, doesn't realize he can make mistakes too, use of physical abuse is not it especially when using it to punish grown adults, too much patience for Rishita but not enough for Krish Raavi or Shiva, being unfair at times, not speaking up on important moments, needs to realize he can't always make things right, needs a progressive reality check, needs to know that younger people can be right too. like an oldie gives too many lectures! 😆 Needs a psychiatrist!

Shiva

+VE: love his family unconditionally, respectful to a point, has a good heart, very hard-working and loyal to his last bone, funny, great one-liners, forgiveness is in his nature, understanding about things mostly, sells himself short, doesn't think he's good enough when he's a gem, very straightforward probably gets it from Suman, 😆 doesn't tend to lie, calls out BS like it is, won't let anyone walk all over him, stands up for the people he loves. stands up for what he believes in.

-VE: hotheaded, doesn't see reason, his tongue works faster than his brain, needs a reality check, man-handling Raavi is not it, using violence as an outlet, needs to curb his emotions at times, thinking he knows best, trying to make Raavi, Rishita, Dev and Krish live from his perspective, secretive, rough around the edges, a bit of a blind follower without questioning things. Sometimes it feels like he can't think for himself. Should demand more respect from the family. Needs a psychiatrist!

Raavi

+VE: bubbly, cute, a bit of an airhead, likes to dream, kind, calm, can be feisty when needed, loyal and defends her loved ones, fair, loves everyone equally, forgiving, has a zest for life, always tries to do the right thing, understands when she makes mistakes and tries to rectify them, understanding, progressive, respectful, very innocent, does what she wants. fantastic one-liners.

-VE: can't keep things to herself, needs a bit of a reality check, is a bit woe is me, can't get people to take her seriously, can't get people to respect her, needs more realistic goals in life, can get too lost in her emotions to get past them, easily influenced. Should demand more respect from people. Needs a psychiatrist!

Krish

+VE: youngest so the most adorable one, has a very cheerful personality, caring loving, mild-mannered, loyal, funny to the bone, always tries to cheer up others and keep the mood light, respectful, love his family, a bit of an airhead 😆 makes good points to people! excellent one-liners

-VE: easily influenced, gets provoked quickly, when angry doesn't care what he says or does, lazy, can't read situations sometimes! lives in a fairy world, secretive, not focused 😆Should demand more respect from the family. Needs a psychiatrist!

Dev

+VE: caring, loving, calm, level-headed at times, respectful to his family, understands when he makes mistakes, cute personality, will do anything for his family, his heart is in the right place...mostly!

-VE: doesn't speak up when he should, didn't take responsibility for his mistakes, let someone else bear the brunt of it, finds it hard to discuss the problems, secretive, over-thinker, needs better techniques for dealing with Rishita. can't think when under pressure! Needs a psychiatrist!

Rishita

+VE: Very loving to Dev (hopefully in the future it will transfer to P-Phamily too), does care about the people she loves, makes good points at times which are progressive values that the younger generation needs. Challenges norms that are regressive.

-VE: bratty, spoilt, selfish, fish for brains, it is either always me or mera Dev like shut up! Doesn't learn easily, doesn't realize her mistakes or what she's saying. Doesn't think twice before she spouting nonsense/verbal abuse! Doesn't know how to put her points across even if she might be right! Needs to stop living in a dream world, marriage brings responsibility, if she didn't want it, shouldn't have married her Dev! NEEDS A LIFE AND PRIORITIES CHECK! Needs a psychiatrist!

Suman

+VE: is a great judge of character. Very sharp and caring and loving towards her sons. Very straightforward and to the point about things which is good to see when things need to get done e.g. Rishita not wanting Dhara to do the aarti! Her promise to make Prafulla suffer 😆 Can understand things...after misunderstanding them lmao!

-VE: abusive language, bhagori ki beti etc, using the danda for fear, her disregard for her sons ever doing wrong, it must always be the "bhagori ki beti" who is always at fault! not listening to reason at times🤢emotional blackmail is not it! Needs a psychiatrist!

Prafulla

+VE: seems to love the girls, Anita and Raavi dearly, one of her redeeming qualities. Wants the best for Raavi in her Sasural, wants to make sure she is well-cared for! Stands up for people she cares for!

-VE: is still out to try and get PS, hasn't changed one bit, and probably never will. Still about the money, still treats people like crap, and has no respect for anyone! thief, takes things that don't belong to her, negativity ki dukaan🤢 Needs a psychiatrist!

Anita

+VE: seems to have changed quite a lot since the start of the show. Great character development! Calm, more thoughtful, cares about the people she loves, respectful...to a point!

-VE: acts like she is 60 and does not take responsibility for her actions. Prafulla may have egged on her but at the end of the day, she is the one who made the choice, on her own terms. No sympathy for her mistakes. 🤔 needs a reality check at times! Needs a psychiatrist!

So I am a silent reader who just recently joined due to ShiVi and I don't watch ITV shows but I had to reply to your post. Everything is on point when it comes to character strengths and flaws. I was just thinking yesterday that Pandya Family needs Family Therapy because clearly "Yaadon ki baraat" is not working. The fact that the showmakers showed physical violence to reprimand grown adult characters was appalling. I am against Physical violence especially when it is depicted in a family setting and I am so glad so many people in the forum found it distasteful. It would have been really progressive had they shown Family members encouraging Raavi to seek support from a Psychiatrist. I mean, woman tried to commit suicide. In real life, just saying give it time, move on with life is not going to help. Heck, even Shiva, Dev and Rishita would have benefited from professional help and to navigate the new changes, family dynamics. Normalize Mental Health showmakers!

P.S: I am not a good writer, but it would be fun to see each family member going to a counselor and baring their thoughts and getting advice. I want to know what's going on in Shiva's head.

This is perfect haha. You've got them down pretty well! Love how they all need therapy lol. They actually do.

Reading this reminded me that this is another reason PS stands out from the usual ITV lineup - all the characters (barring Rishita when she's being extreme) are actually very realistic. We crib about their shortcomings but that's how people are in real life, flawed but inherently good. That's exactly what they show in PS, inherently good people working through life and messy situations.

They can spend 100 episodes for their escapades in a family rehab centre, with group therapy sessions, journal writing etc. would love to read Raavi & Shiva’s journals 🤪

THIS! 👍🏼 I am so put off every time physical abuse is used to discipline someone 🤢 especially since they are grown adults, in that sense, Rishita was right about hitting Dev not being fair. But they put her thoughts across as being against phamily values 🤢 which is a troupe you see all too often on TV, "in order to protect the culture, one must show progression as evil" which is wrong on so many levels. They all really do need a psychiatrist though! There is obviously a lot of pent-up, repressed emotions they all need to work through! The fact that Raavi tried to commit suicide and it was just brushed off to the side, that shit is traumatizing! A lot of the abusive behaviour in these shows is being normalized! 🤢
