“Main iss family ko deserve nahin karti. Ek annath hoon aur iss family mein mere koi jagah nahin hain.” Shiva curled his fists and took a few deep breaths as those words kept on replaying in his mind. But nothing helped ease the pain and anger wrecking havoc inside of him.

Shiva closed his eyes and thought back to their relationship over the years. He couldn’t remember the first time they met even if he tried. That’s how long they had known each other for.

Perhaps the biggest turning point in their childhood was his father’s death. She was no longer the girl he grew up with. Rather she was Maami’s niece. Just Maami’s niece.

He was supposed to hate her. He had to hate her. But he didnt. He couldn’t. In fact it was the opposite. There wasn’t a day where his eyes wouldn’t look for her. Almost every day after school, she would drop by their house. He would crib and complain to his Bhabhi about her being an unwanted guest, but the truth was he would look forward to her arrival the next day as soon as she left. Teasing her and fighting with her became the highlight of his otherwise mundane day. That was the one thing that never got boring. It filled him with a strange energy... a sense of fulfillment.

The same routine continued as they grew into their teens. But soon Shiva realized that although their equation hadn’t changed, his reaction to their interactions were not longer the same. The way his body reacted to her almost frightened him. Despite being in his early teens, Shiva wasn’t ignorant. He was very much aware of how his body reacted to even the most harmless touches when they came from her. He even went ahead and kissed a few girls, hoping he could ease his mind into accepting that this was simply him reacting to the opposite sex. But no. It was just her. No one made him burn the way she did. Shiva couldn’t deny that he was insanely attracted to her and a part of him was ashamed to even think about it.

Even as she went on and on about his brother he would find himself lost in her eyes. Her smile would make his heart skip a beat without fail and the simplest touches would affect him in ways that left him flustered. He hated taking showers but she was the reason for almost every one of his cold showers. And what he thoughts about during those shower was something no one would ever know, including Raavi herself.

As an adult, he expected things to die down. After all, having a childhood crush and feeling attracted as a teenager was normal. But he should have known better. If anything, his feelings intensified and became a burning ball of fire. Over the years, he had mastered the art of masking his concern with taunts, his jealousy with anger and his pain with indifference. But nothing changed that fact that his world did indeed revolve around her.

However, tonight opened his eyes to an entirely different side of their story. One he never truly considered. Perhaps he was so caught up in the storm of his own emotions that he never stopped to think about the extent of the pain he inflicted on her.

Did he really make her feel so unwanted? The same girl he spent his entire life silently wanting. A cruel joke indeed.

Shiva took a deep breath and thought about all those clashes with Raavi over the years, especially when they were younger. A part of him was a bit scared to revisit them. As he stood in the open air replaying certain memories, he knew his fears weren’t unfounded. Tears escaped freely from his eyes as he found himself looking at a young Raavi. The pain her saw in her eyes instantly made his heart heavy. It made him wish he could stop twelve year old Shiva from saying another word.

After every fight, argument and clash, Raavi would take a step back. Her eyes filled with tears and surprise. For that brief second, she would look so lost and distant. As if a part of her was breaking and she herself didn’t know why. But soon she would mask it up with her bubbly and happy personality.

He was the villain in her story wasnt he? No wonder Dev was her Prince Charming growing up. He was almost always kind to her. While Shiva...

Shiva opened his eyes and gripped the edge of the railing until his knuckles turned white. He thought about all those times she would joke and laugh even if he had said something mean. When she would bring gifts for the entire family, including him. When she would make sure that he was okay after getting into fights. All that despite being so hurt by his words. Never once had Shiva tried to see the tears behind her smile. He was too busy fighting his own feelings.

Shiva sank to the ground as he thought about how much he hurt her. Perhaps Shiva Pandya wasn’t so selfless after all.

Raavi didn’t deserve to be at the receiving end of his hate. Not for being related to Maami and certainly not for the feelings she unknowingly evoked in him. She was nothing like Maami. In fact, a part of him respected the amount of positivity and kindness she spread to those around her. She could make anyone smile, even him.

As he thought about his growing years, he couldn’t deny that almost all his memories were of her. Each year without fail he would remember her birthday, even if he wanted to forget. So badly. He would wish her, waiting for the smile she would give once Dev extended his wishes. Her smile would always, without fail make his heartbeats race despite the hurt he felt.

Of course he wasn’t a fool with believe that he was the reason for her smile. That honor always went Dev. But now he knew that he was also the cause of her tears. No wonder he didn’t deserve her.

Shiva sat there for what felt like hours. The weight of his actions and his own emotions weighing down on him. He covered his face with his hands and took a feel deep breaths. Looking ahead at the still water, he finally gathered enough courage to face her.

Shiva knew he couldn’t change their past but he knew how he wanted to shape their present and future. With that thought, he made a quick stop to their bedroom and then went in search of the caretaker of the haveli.

A few hours later Shiva entered their room and saw Raavi lying on the bed. The lights were still on and she was curled onto her side.

When she was alerted of his presence, she quickly wiped her eyes and sat up. The thought of her crying because of him affected him more than he would care to admit.

“Kahaan tha tu? Do you have any idea how late it is?”

“Kyun, tension ho rahi thi mere liye?”

Raavi scoffed, “Haan mujhe toh pagal kutte ne kata jo main tujh jaise bhoothnath ke liye tension karungi.”

Shiva chuckled and then looked at her. Her eyes were red and it was as if she had forgotten how to smile. She has had an exhausting few days and it was clear that all this was taking an emotional toll on her.

“Raavi,” he called her softly. When she didn’t answer he repeated her name.

“Kaun Raavi? Tu theek hain, main kabse Raavi hoon tere liye?”

Shiva sighed and purposefully sat on her side of the bed. She pulled a pillow on her lap and looked at him with a mixture of anger and curiosity.

“Koi bhoot voot ne possess kiya hain?” He smiled.

“Apna haath de,” He extended his hand as a gestured for her to bring forth hers. She looked at him hesitantly and he hoped after today she would no longer feel as hesitant and cautious.

He placed a small charm bracelet in her hand. As much as he would have liked to make her wear it, he also wanted to respect her space.

Oh his brothers would have a field day if they could read his thoughts at that moment.

Raavi stared long and hard at the bracelet and finally spoke up.

“Yeh... yeh toh mera hain! Woh bhi kitna purana! Yeh tere paas? Mujhe toh laga ke Dev...” she stopped and bit her lip.

Shiva tried to ignore the sudden rush of emotions he felt flaring up inside of him at the mention of his brother. No, this moment is about Raavi, not you a voice in his head chided him.

“Bataa na yeh tere paas kaise?” Shiva sighed. He knew he would have to face this question.

“At the time I wanted to hide it from you as a joke, but baad mein bhool gaya.”

“So this was in that ancient suitcase of yours,” she gave it a weird look.

“I promised I cleaned it,” Shiva said rolling his eyes. She wasn’t going to make this easy was he. Sighing he moved a bit closer.

“Look at the charm.” Raavi touched the little charm and stilled when she realized what it was.

She just stared at it for what felt like an eternity and then stood up. He got up as well and looked at her tensely.

Yeh toh...,” her voice trembled.

“Haan, yeh Kumud Pandya, yaani mere dadi ki hain. Woh aisi cheezen collect karna pasand karti thhi. I’m sure you have seen pictures before. Actually Papa ne hum chaaro ke liye do pieces alag se rakhe. Ek dadaji ki nishaani aur ek daadi ki. So ek khud ke liye aur ek....,” he trailed off feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Dhara bhabhi wears hers as a necklace. I wanted... I wanted you to have this.” Raavi looked at him, shock and tears filling up her doe-like eyes. Shiva couldn’t help but notice the depth in them. A small sigh escaped his lips as took in her tears. He dug his fingers into his palm to stop himself from wiping the tear that made it way down her cheek.

“I know it’s not what you wanted...,” he stopped and took a shaky breath.

He couldn’t finish his thought. It simply hurt too much. She wanted Dev as her partner... not him. He felt his heart skip a beat. What if she didn’t want this?!! What if she misread his gesture?!! Shiva didn’t know how he would react if she rejected his gift... rejected him. He was too afraid to think in that direction.

Raavi just stared at him and Shiva felt his stomach twist into a knot. “If you don’t...” before he could finish, she wrapped her arms around him. He was still for a few seconds but then he wrapped his arms around her and held her close.

Shiva felt a tightening in his chest as she began sobbing. He held her closer as she buried herself in his chest. It was then Shiva made a promise to himself to give her the family she always desired and if she thought him worthy... become her family.

Both Shiva and Raavi stayed like that for a while. After days, they both felt peace and while Shiva knew this didn’t resolve all the issues between them, especially what he had done all these years, but he hoped it was a first step in the right direction. With that thought, he held her just a bit closer.

The End

I had typed this one up ages ago but lost motivation to finish. It didn’t really turn out to be what I wanted but hey that’s what writers’ blocks are all about 😆 Not edited for grammatical error (yet)! Also I decided to name Shiva’s grandma Kumud cuz I’m not too familiar with Gujju names (and cuz I love her and her feistiness) 😆 As always, please let me know what you think! 🤗 I know I’m not able to reply individually but hoping to get there soon! I do read and appreciate each and every comment! ❤️

Lots of love,

Finally ! Shiva ne thoda akkal ayega !

The first step was always the important one, and I love that Shica gifted Raavi something that was important and held the meaning of family for her ! Paired with her old Charm bracelet, it was a nice hint that he had been paying attention to her while she was focus on Dev. But. Now the future is bright as long as they work on it and have a little patience with each other ♥️😍

Great Job ! Even after writers block, you gave a tastefully written ending to it ! I wish you would write an epilogue of the family’s reaction seeing Raavi wearing the heirloom ! Gaumbhi and Dhara would definitely recognize it ! Rishita might ask and get jealous on it lol 😂😂😂 And Krosh would tease them as per usual 😂😂😂

Ps; what was the charm on it ? You never mentioned ♥️♥️
