Bevy of beauties bring on the bling bling

KARACHI: The Lux Style Awards 2006 took place late Saturday night at the Expo Center to honor the best of the fashion, music, television and film.

Celebrities in full designer gear that reflected a propensity for the Western made it down the red carpet. The high society of Karachi and Lahore was out in full force to attend the event.

The evening's surprise for many was the award for Most Inspirational and Devotional Album of the Year that went to Junaid Jamshed, who was not present to receive the accolade.

The show started with Reema and Moammar Rana performing to Noor Jehan's classic and they also teamed up for a few numbers from their movie.

Song and dance sequences livened up the night that was hosted by the dashing Shan in impeccable black tie.

The lovely Lux style brigade led by icon Babra Sharif and including Eman Ali, Vaneeza, Meera and Aminah Haq were also present.

The legendary Runa Laila presented the Best Music Album to Ali Azmat for 'Social Circus' and sang some classics for Meera's dance performances. The UK-based Stereo Nation also made a memorable appearance.

Mehdi Hasan was awarded a lifetime achievement award and cricketer Wasim Akram received the Personality of the Decade award.

The Best Satellite TV Actress went to Maria Wasti. The workaholic Saquib Malik took home Best Music Video and Overload received the Best Live Act award.

Ali Kazmi and Anoushey paid tribute to sister-and-brother team Nadia and Zoheb Hasan by performing dance numbers to their songs.

Ali Zafar performed a song written by Lahore's Yousaf Salauddin in a routine enacted by models wearing Nilofer Shahid.

The Best Fashion Photographer award went Khawar Riaz and Best Hair and Makeup award to Nabila.

Abdullah Aijaz was given the Best Male Model of the Year award and Tooba Siddiqui took home the Best Female Model of the Year.

Mohammad Nafees received the Best PTV Play award and the Best PTV Director Award went to Tariq Meraj.

Noman Aijaz took home the Best PTV Actor award and Sara Khan the equivalent.

Reema probably had the best night of all as she took home awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress for her film 'Koi Tuj Sa Kahan' which also won Best Actor for Moammar Rana.

Best Emerging Fashion Talent went to Faiza Asad Ansari. The award for Best Menswear Designer went to Amir Adnan. Yousaf Salauddin praised and honored multinaitonal CEO Musharraf Hai. Stereo Nation gave the award for the best retail brand to Khaddi. Freiha Altaf gave Karma the award for the best couture design label.
