A sensible post
#Pakistan | A Quick Word On Election2013 |
First, I congratulate #PMLN and #PTI for emerging as Pakistan's two largest parties. This is even a bigger achievement for PTI. This party has proven that New Pakistan. In less than two years, PTI has entered Pakistan's power corridors with a bang, controls one province, and might join federal government with PMLN.
Second, I have strong reservations on the person of Nawaz Sharif but not PMLN as a party. Nawaz Sharif needs to rise to the occasion, stop giving pro-India statements to antagonize Pakistani military, and spend time now uniting Pakistanis.
Third, PTI and PMLN should celebrate a BIGGER victory: the defeat of the pro-American coalition PPP-MQM-ANP. That's a true achievement for Pakistan. Now PMLN and PTI should take practical steps to extricate Pakistan from America's failed war in Afghanistan.
Four, politics based personal abuse don't work. Nawaz Sharif benefited from sympathy vote because Pakistanis didn't like it when PPP, MQM, ANP and PTI were seen as being on the same page against Nawaz Sharif. I personally believe PTI should have devoted more time to exposing the PPP-MQM-ANP coalition and not focus solely on Nawaz Sharif.
Five, the Pakistani democratic system is a failed system, cannot be reform through elections.
