Not all cartoons are funny business!
This may not be serious enough to sit up and take note of, but yes, there is a degree of violence on shows that cater to the tweens, who seem to be lapping it up without batting an eyelid. If there isn't Tom chasing Jerry with dire consequences, there's a "naani" (grandmother) who's a virtual terror when she's feeding her wards on Cartoon Network.
And there are the spoilt brats on Robot Boy who think nothing of bashing up their peers in a school loo. Not all kids' programming is as clean and nice as Galli Galli Sim Sim.
Too much song n dance
And now, a quick run through of the dance and talent reality shows that will bombard screens from next week. Sony's take on Dancing with the Stars, Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa will rub shoulders with Star One's Nach Baliye 2. The difference will not just be in the kind of star power you get to see dancing up on stage, but also the treatment the channels give the shows. On the promo front, both get equal marks thus far.
Also debuting in September are Star Plus' Mera Star Superstar, a kids' talent hunt show to be judged by Sachin and Farida Jalal, and Sahara's Superstars, with Urmila Matondkar for a judge.
Uh... isn't it a trifle too much in too little a time span? Or don't the channels care about viewer fatigue?
