Why? Jazz teaches you to express yourself through the body, which, in turn, is therapeutic for the mind. Students also get a better understanding of their inner selves. The expressive nature of dance and movement, helps you to delve into and confront emotions and memories, while improving communication skills, and encouraging spiritual development.
This dance form offers relief from tension and stress. Muscle ache is often caused by stress since the body tends to "store" stress in areas such as the neck and shoulders. By exercising and hence strengthening these muscles, the body develops a higher level of resistance to stress. The end result is reduced anxiety levels and more positive energy. It also has the added advantage of high-impact aerobic exercise, which aids overall muscle toning, weight loss and keeps the mind healthy by generating the release of endorphins and adrenaline.

Why? An hour of vigorous Jive burns about 400 calories, and tones calf, thigh and buttock muscles. It also improves flexibility, co-ordination, balance and posture. By fortifying muscles in the body, Jive reduces back pain and curbs muscle loss and bone degeneration, which occurs with age. While the activity intrinsic to this dance form is aerobic in nature, routines may be varied and modified according to your fitness level and state of mind. This prevents the overuse, and hence, wear and tear of muscles. Since the dance form is not monotonous, you will be more likely to enjoy it for a longer period of time. Students gain a better sense of control and balance, as well as higher confidence levels.
