NEW BEGINNINGS:
Amrita Singh's TV serial
Kkavyanjali starts next week
Her divorce from Saif Ali Khan has just come though and she is all set
to make her TV debut with Star Plus's Kkavyanjali, that starts next week.

Like her fiery screen persona, in real life too, Amrita Singh comes
across as a strong woman. Proud, confident, effervescent, here's
Amrita on her new TV serial and her two kids….

Why did you choose television to make a comeback?
I decided to restart my career because overnight, I found myself in a
situation where I needed to work to support myself and my lifestyle. I
have earned my livelihood since I was 16.

Television was the first thing that came to me when people became
sensitive to the fact that I needed a job. A friend spoke to Ekta
(Kapoor) and within ten days, I got an offer from her for Kkavyanjali.

Did you miss working all these years?
I'd been getting film offers but I was enjoying my time with my kids.
I was enthralled with the novelty of my first-born, Sara. It was
amazing for me. I grew up as an only child and then later, lost my
mother, so I was pretty much alone.

At such a time, it seemed that Sarah was all mine. I loved spending
hours doing precisely nothing with her. Then Ibrahim came along and he
needed as much time and attention too. I had the luxury to do all
that, but not any longer.

But your role in Kkavyanjali is a peripheral one....
I'm not looking for roles where I am the focal point. As an actor, I'm
not ego-centric, I am happy working in a larger, safer periphery. And
I am confident that the production value of Kkavyanjali will surpass
everything on TV.

I had decided that if I did TV, I didn't want to run the risk of what
had happened to my predecessors, where they were bigger than the
shows. I just want my show to succeed.

Is it true that when Sanjay Dutt heard about your financial problems,
he called you and offered to help?
I am not a beggar that I need help. Secondly, what transpired between
us is only between us. All I will say is that Sanju is a dear friend
and always will be.

But there's been talk of financial support from Saif via a divorce
settlement, that he's given you a bungalow and Rs 10 crore.... Saif
also said he didn't freeze any bank accounts.
I am not responsible for anybody's claims. The person who is rumoured
to be paying me this amount should be answering this question. Why ask me?

Is it scary to begin life all over again at this point? Any insecurities?
No, why should I feel insecure? My mom's favourite quote was, "The big
animals walk alone and the smaller ones walk in herds." I am a strong
woman, strong enough to make my own decisions and tough enough to
stand by them. When I came into the film industry, I had no sugar
daddy or godfather. I made it in the film industry on my own. Mumbai
is my city and the entertainment industry my home, so there's no fear.

What do you think went wrong between you and Saif?
My personal life is not open for public scrutiny and never will be, so
I will never discuss what went wrong. I have two children of whom I am
fiercely protective and possessive.

When we are written about and ridiculed, the media tends to cross
boundaries and that starts harming the children. The callousness with
which things have happened have done their damage, so I decided to
stay away from the media and not add to that.

Are you open to a relationship again or are you disillusioned by love?
(Laughs) Going by my track record as far as my relationships are
concerned, do you think I will ever be disillusioned by love? I have
always been known to live my life, set goals for myself, dream a bit
and eliminate my nightmares. So yes, I might fall in love once again.
But one thing I am sure of: I don't need a permanent man in my life!
No excess baggage.

ya, saif and amrita did very well to be together uptill present. Even though she was elder to him, they managed to have no gossips running about their married life. I also have read that Sharmila turned out to be a very good mother in law and was always supportive. Saif should not have done this after so many years of marriage and after begetting 2 kids who are rather grown up now. Another Azharuddin in the making.Bad!!!!
