The Gold Awards at the Global Village in Dubai on December 20, 2008 was a lacklustre fare with few stars and no great performances to talk about.
To begin with, for no apparent reason, the Dubai media were turned away from the event, despite being invited to it in the first place.
Back home in India, the show has received negative reviews too.
The absence of the leading names of the Indian television industry was a major reason why the award show seemed to have failed. The biggest name in the business, Ekta Kapoor, did not attend the event and most of her team too decided to give it a miss.
Moreover, the show also seemed to have been biased towards a particular channel, hence most of the awards went to programmes on that channel.
All in all, the awards night generated little interest.
