Day 1
Nisha reached her rented apartment with a smile. Today it was her friend Saurav's birthday and they had a blast. She knocked on the front door. It was 2 o'clock so she knew her land lady would take a lot of time to wake up.
Her land lady (Mrs. Rai) was Hitler's follower. The rules were very strict. Nisha had to be in the house by 10pm because Mrs. Rai was old and had to sleep by 10.30pm. The main door had 5 locks as Mrs. Rai stayed alone and cities are dangerous for elderly people. This was annoying but, in Mumbai, you have to ADJUST.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard the first lock being unlocked.
"Nisha, dekh, galti teri hai, so no gussa." She calmed herself and got ready for the fire that was now going to eat her up. She plastered a smile on her face as she heard the 5th one being unlocked.
The door was now wide open. Mrs. Rai stood there, a scrowl on her face and wait, her bags?
Nisha- (confusingly looking at her bags) Mrs. Rai, yeh sab ... kya ... I mean...
Mrs. Rai- (angrily) Mahina khatam ho gaya, so your term is up. Maine kaha tha ki 10 baje tak aa jana, its 2 o'clock... I am ordering you to leave this house.
Before Nisha could say anything the door closed on her face. She pleaded a lot but it was useless. Finally giving up she picked up her bags and walked towards Gateway of India. The place which was where she could calm herself down and be relaxed, for the time being.
She saw that a guy was sitting on one of the benches. She looked closely and realised that it was Kabir.
Kabir and she were colleagues. He worked as a choreographer for the same production house. They weren't friends but he did try to flirt with her when they met for the first time. She had fired him so much that he avoided her, but he was close to Saurav and her other friends.
She sighed and sat down next to Kabir. He looked up and smiled.
Kabir- Hi Miss. Touch-Me- Not.
Nisha- (smiling) Hello, Mr. Flirt.
She saw 2-3 bags lying on the floor.
Nisha- Yeh bags?
Kabir- (spreading his arms out wide) Welcome to my new house.
Nisha- (confused) What?
Kabir- Mere landlord ne mujhe ghar se beghar kar diya. I have no idea where to go. Dolly ne Saurav ke ghar pe uske liye ek surprise plan kiya hai, isiliye wahaan nahi jaa sakta and I have nowhere to go.
Nisha- (pinching him) same pinch.
Kabir- (shocked)Tum bhi gharwali se bhaharwali ban chuki ho
Nisha nodded in affirmation and Kabir started laughing.
Nisha- Ismein daant phaadne waali kaunsi baat hai?
Kabir- (laughing)Kya naseeb hai? Dono ko ek hi din apne-apne gharo ko Bye-bye kehna pada. (stopping his laughter)Waise aage ka kya plan hai? Dolly aur Saurav ke paas toh jaa nahi sakti, (thinking for a second) What about Kirti's place?
Nisha- Bad idea... Her mom HATES me...
Kabir- Hmm... Umesh?
Nisha- Shaadi ko 2 saal ho gaye and finally Aman is come to Mumbai...Main kaise jaa sakti hoon?
Kabir- Sukku?
Nisha- Nope. Woh aaj Puna gaya hai, apne cousin ke paas.
Kabir then shut his mouth and stayed quiet. The night passed
*Morning*
Early morning joggers, saw a couple sleeping on the bench infront of the Gateway of India. One of the pedestrians woke Nisha up. She woke up Kabir and the 2 were thinking about what to do next. It was a holiday for the whole cast and crew.
Both decided to speak to Saurav. Kabir called Saurav. After 5 rings, they heard someone pick the call, and yawn.
Kabir- Saurav?
Saurav- (yawning) Hmm.. bol... Kya hua?
NiBir- Hum beghar ho gaye...
Saurav- (shocked) Beghar? And who is the girl with you?
Nisha- Main Nisha hoon.
Saurav- Yeh sab chal kya raha hai?
Nisha explained him the whole thing.
Saurav- (thinking for some time)Dekho, I know a place where you guys can get a rented house, tumhare budget mein bhi aayega and its near the studio also.
Kabir-(happy) sacchi?
Saurav- haan, ek ghante mein mujhe Studio ke paas milo, I'll take you there.
Both agreed happily. They freshened using mineral water and went to "VSR Studio".
* VSR Studio*
Both were eagerly waiting for Saurav. They saw Saurav coming with an elderly man.
Saurav- (to the old man) Sir, this is Nisha and Kabir. Inke baare mein maine aapko bataya tha... and Kabir, this is Mr. Saxena.
Kabir and Nisha handshake with him.
Mr. Saxena- Dekho, mujhe aap dono se koi aitraaz nahi hai, mujhe jald se jald ek tenant ki jarrort hai aur apko ek ghar ki..
Kabir- Ji..
Mr. Saxena- So thikh, aaj hi main papers banva leta hoon...
Nisha- Ji thank you so much...
Mr. Saxena- Aap mere ghar aaj hi se reh sakte hai... I don't have any problem.
NiBir- (greatfully) Thank You so much...
Mr. Saxena led them to his car. They thanked Saurav and were off to Saxena house. Mr. Saxena was a jolly type of a person. He told them about his wife, but when Nisha asked him about his children, he stopped speaking. In an hour they were outside "Saxena house". A normal 2 floored bungalow, that's what Nisha thought as soon as her eyes fell on the house.
Mr. Saxena led them inside the house. His wife had just finished the pooja. She smiled and welcomed them. They sat on the sofa and looked around. Mrs. Saxena offered them tea.
Mrs. Saxena- (sitting opposite Nisha) So, tum dono ki shaadi se tumhare mom- dad ko problem hai?
NiBir- (confused) Shaadi?
Mrs. Saxena- Don't worry, Saurav ne hume sab kuch bata diya hai, ki tum dono ne bhaag ke shaadi ki hai, and you want a place to stay.
Nisha was about to deny, but Kabir held her hand tight. She looked at him as he spoke.
Kabir- Ji. Iske dad ek amir damaad chahte the, and I am just a chorographer.
Mrs. Saxena- Pata nahi, sab paise ke peeche kyun pade hai? Talent aur pyaar ki koi kadar hi nahi.
Mr. Saxena- (interrupting them) Vasundhara, maine Mr. Agnihotri se baat ki hai, shaam tak papers aur saari legal formalities poori ho jaayega. (to Kabir) Kabir, advance mein 1 lakh aur iss mahine ka rent dena padenge...
Kabir- ji, main aapko ek- do ghante mein de dunga...
Mrs. Saxena- Arrey, pehle ghar toh dekne do, phir rent decide kar lena...
She led the 2 youngsters upstairs. It was a spacious house, with a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen and washroom.
Mr. Saxena- So 10,000?
Kabir- (hesitant) 9,000?
Mr. Saxena- thikh hai, 9,000.
The elderly couple went downstairs. Kabir locked the door behind them. Nisha, who was angry at Kabir for telling a lie, started blasting him.
Nisha- (angrily) Kabir, tum paagal ho gaye ho? We are married? Seriously? Aur kuch kyun nahi bola, bol dete hum bhai behen hai...
Kabir placed his hand on her lips, wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. Nisha looked at him in shock. They looked in each other's eyes and couldn't tear away their gaze. Finally, after 2 minutes, Kabir removed his hand and pushed her away from him.
Kabir- tumhe suna nahi? Saurav ne already bol diya hai ki hum married hai... Ab kuch nahi ho sakta...
Nisha-(giving up) Par jhoot?
Kabir- We don't have any other option. Look, 1 mahine ki toh baat hai... Phir movie ki shooting khatam ho jaayegi and I'll go to Australia... Thikh hai? 1 mahine mein hum tere liye naya ghar dhund lenge... and you can shift... Jaate waqt sach bol denge.. par tab tak we have to act as husband and wife... Thikh hai?
Nisha didn't have any other option then saying yes. She nodded. The rest of the time was spent adjusting the house. After 2 hours, Kabir went to arrange the rent. He didn't tell Nisha anything about it nor did she ask him. It was decided among themselves, that when Nisha had the money she would return him half of the advance and rent.
They then went to Saurav's place. Saurav and Nisha were 2 youngsters who had come to Mumbai to search for their own life. They both worked as assistant directors. Saurav was dating Dolly.
Saurav - How's your new house?
Nisha-(hitting him) Duffer, jhoot kyun bola?
Saurav- arrey they wanted a married couple as tenants, and a guy and girl make up a couple, just that you 2 aren't married.
Dolly and Saurav burst out laughing and Saurav's neighbor had to shout because after he heard a roar of laughter, he heard people running around, screaming, apologizing and breaking things.
Saurav - (tired after the chase) Sorry yaar Nishu, par, you need a house urgently isilye...
Nisha-Ok. I understand.
Nisha and Kabir stayed with Saurav as it was awkward for them to face Mr and Mrs. Saxena.
