Part X
It was late night and Nisha was still tossing in her bed. The day's events kept flashing in front of her eyes. She felt her thoughts formed a maze everytime she thought she had found a way out, infact she found herself get deeper into the maze, while she mulled over the day's events. Kabir's Mom is going to visit us tomorrow they will definitely expect an answer what am I going to tell them. Am I going to tell them that I don't have an answer? That I can't come to any conclusion, she kept deliberating and arguing with herself. Finally deciding to quit trying to put herself to sleep, she stood at the balcony, expecting the fresh air to blow away the knots in her thoughts, but somehow that was not helping either. Suddenly a hand gripped her shoulder and squeezed it. "I don't know what to do. I am confused." Nisha said not moving an inch. "I can understand. Would you want to talk about it?" Dolly offered. Nisha nodded and they walked into the bedroom.
They found Umesh, Kirti and Jwala waiting for them. "What are you guys doing here? It's very late. Jwalu don't you have to get up early for school tomorrow." "No Nishu Bro, I and Bunty are taking a study leave tomorrow, besides even you are up at this time which means something is definitely not right." Disturbed by the constant noise in the room Bunty sat up rubbing his eyes, trying to figure out what the conversation was about. "What happened Nishu Di?" Bunty enquired in between a yawn. "Jwala... Nisha is right it's too late. You go to sleep; we need to talk to Nisha, take Bunty to your room" "But Umesh Bhaiya..." Jwala tried to protest. Nisha cupped Jwala's face and squeezed her cheeks. "Jwalu please!" Nisha hoped her little sister would not argue further. "Ok!" she said reluctantly and took Bunty with her.
Jwala stood at the door and glanced at Nisha. Nisha gave her an assuring smile. Jwala appeared to be contemplating over something. Suddenly she raced toward Nisha and hugged her. "Jwala I am fine. However grown up you may be for us you are still a child. I promise once you grow up enough to take your own decisions you will be the first one I will call, till then you will have to wait and trust me." Nisha cupped Jwala's face and stared deep into her eyes "Will you trust me Jwala?" Nisha's eyes penetrated through Jwala's soul. Jwala nodded tears welling up in her eyes. She gently brought Nisha's hand to her lips and kissed it. "I trust you. I always have and always will Nishu Bro." Jwala's voice cracked as she struggled to keep her tears from falling. Nisha wrapped her arms around her tightly and brought her closer. All the other cousins wrapped themselves over Nisha and Jwala like the closing petals of a flower. Slowly they broke their embrace. "Go now" Nisha turned Jwala around and gently pushed her. Jwala took Bunty with her and left.
Nisha turned around to confront her elder cousins now. "How come you guys are awake at this time?" Nisha asked puzzled. "We were helping Dolly with the dupattas. She volunteered to get some snacks for us. But my stomach wouldn't wait patiently, so we decided to go check what was taking her so long and we see her counseling you instead. How could we see our leader so harrowed?" Umesh let out a chuckle. "Dolly Di why didn't you tell me, I would have helped too" Nisha's voice hinted disappointment. "Oh! really Nishu Look at yourself, you look so lost you think you could have helped us in this frame of mind?" Kirti retorted clearly annoyed at Nisha's disappointment. "Why do you always hide your feelings? Why don't you feel the need to discuss it with us? Do you think we can't solve your problems as effectively as you can solve ours?" Kirti continued to whine. Nisha furrowed her eyebrows at Kirti's accusation. "Your assumption is wrong Kirti" Nisha spoke softly upset with Kirti's accusation. "Then what is it Nisha please shares it with us" Dolly cajoled her. She sat down on the bed and patted the place besides her. Nisha sat beside her, while Kirti settled on the floor folding her hands on Nisha's lap and resting her chin on her hands. She looked up at Nisha waiting for her to start. Umesh stood next to Kirti observing Nisha's turmoil which had started to show on her face.
She struggled to get the words out "Dolly Di I am confused about Kabir."She poured her heart out and shared the entire day's events with her cousins. Dolly spoke carefully choosing her words. She knew it was always difficult to handle Nisha when it came to this topic, any mistake on her part would send Nisha running. "I know what you are thinkings about Nisha. You must be feeling that you were not interested in Kabir at alls, you just wanted to get rids of him and now suddenly you have second thoughts about him. Isn't it?" Nisha placed her head in Dolly's lap and lied down on the bed. She nodded her head in Dolly's lap. Kirti pulled back her hands and supported herself with the table adjacent to the bed. Dolly placed her hand on Nisha's head and lightly started patting it. "Nisha calm down. You don't need to be afraids. It's normal." Dolly glanced at Umesh, finding it difficult to continue. Umesh raised his palm at her gesturing her that he would continue. Umesh knelt before Nisha and spoke while stroking her head gently "Nisha you have developed feelings which are unknown to you, which you have never felt before. Such feelings can make anyone nervous you're not the only one. From what you have shared with us I think Kabir is a nice guy Nishu. You should really give it a thought. I know we initially helped you with your plan but now I feel it was not a good decision. I don't mean that we regret supporting you but if we would have succeeded in our plan we would have ruined your chance to have such a beautiful person in your life." Nisha shifted her eyes to look at him. "Yes Nisha inspite of our plan to humiliate him and your deliberate attempts to continue with the plan he only persevered to know you better shunning aside all our immature behavior. Don't throw away the chance to have him in your life. But the decision is ultimately yours we promise to support you in whatever you decide." Nisha lifted her head from Dolly's lap and looked at Dolly for her opinion. Dolly blinked her eyes and nodded. "Now go to sleep Nishu. It's quiet late." Umesh ordered her younger sister. Nisha obediently agreed and lied down on the bed. Umesh turned around to check on Kirti since she didn't speak at all. He found her fast asleep against the table, resting her head on the drawer of the table. Umesh smiled at her innocence. Umesh gently picked her up and laid her on the other side of the bed next to Nisha. Dolly gently kissed Nisha and Kirti's forehead. "Sleep well Nisha! Tomorrow is a big day for you." Umesh spoke like a responsible brother. Ramesh and Lakshmi stood at the door witnessing the beautiful bond between the cousins. "I guess we worry too much" Ramesh told Lakshmi overwhelmed at what he had just witnessed. "I think the cousins have explained Nisha all that we would have. I guess she has got a young set of parents in her cousins. The cousins really have an inexplicable connect that binds them together. Nisha is lucky to have them. You know Lakshmi this is what I adore about the cousins they may commit mistakes and plan bizarre things but they are together to support each other at the end of the day." Lakshmi smiled and nodded. "I could not agree more." she said to Ramesh. Ramesh wrapped his hand around Lakshm's shoulder and turned to leave satisfied that their daughter's questions were answered. "Good Night Nishu""Good Night Umesh bhaiya and Dolly Di" Umesh and Dolly smiled at each other on their way out. "So five down two to go huh Kabir" Nisha said to herself. "Wait what five down two to go? I was counting myself with the cousins from the start. How could I do that when I didn't want him in my life? No! This cannot happen. I have taken my decision." She closed her eyes and sifted through the day's events. It was a matter of time when she drowned into her dreams.
