PART - 9

Nisha reached out to ring the bell when she noticed that the door was open. She entered the Hall and found Kabir, Viraj and some other guy on the dining table, breakfast laid out in front of them. Nisha felt a stab of pain. After Kabir had left, she had begged Dadi to convince Dadaji to not take any action against Kabir. To forgive him. Nisha knew that she had raised Dadi's suspicions but it was only Dadi who had the power to stop Dadaji. She had cried nearly the whole night, her cousins trying to console her and no one had eaten anything.

Nisha made her way for Kabir and her room, unnoticed by any of the men. "Kabir", she called out from the room door, "Could you come in for sometime?". She nodded to Viraj who gave her a huge smile and started packing her stuff in the room.

Kabir still hadn't come. Nisha started to go out when she saw that he was at the door, staring at her as if not sure whether she was there or not. She snapped her fingers in front of him and found herself engulfed in a rib crushing hug. "Nishu", said Kabir, glad that she was next to him,"I am so sorry. So sorry for everything. I know you are angr-". It cost Nisha a lot of strength but she pushed Kabir away from her. For his sake, she couldn't afford to get swayed.

"Dadaji has agreed not to file a police complaint against you". Kabir smiled wryly,"That's the second person in twenty four hours". Nisha couldn't make sense of what he was saying but plodded ahead. "You are to stay here until our divorce takes place". Kabir's face lost colour. "Divorce?". "Of course. That contract thing between was not legal. Just a mutual understanding. Our marriage was real. You are- I mean, I am- We are husband and wife". Nisha held up her hand to stop Kabir from speaking. "I know you don't- I mean, we don't see us that way. Don't worry. Hire a lawyer who will take care of everything. Dadaji won't complicate matters as he wants a quick divorce". With all that was happening, it was kiddish to resent the party going on in the house but Nisha couldn't stop from asking, " Who's that guy, Kabir?".

Kabir's head spun. Divorce. How could Nisha agree for such a thing? It didn't matter anyway. He wasn't giving her a divorce. At least not until he had confessed his love and was convinced that she didn't feel the same for him. Kabir was deciding how to do it when Nisha's question stalled him. Best to get the trivialities out of the way first. "Sabu". "What? Just by the way, Kabir, from which angle does he look like Sabu to you?". "Not to me. To Sukku". Nisha's head was already pounding due to lack of sleep and food and this further escalated her headache. "Please, Kabir. Tell me clearly". Kabir handed Nishu a sketch and said, "This is the description Sukku has given of Sabu". Nisha peered into the drawing. "This looks nothing like Sabu", said Nisha, surprised. Kabir smirked and then watched warily as Nishu lost her temper.

Nisha walked out of the room ,with her suitcase in one hand and phone in the other. "Sukku, you idiot, why didn't you give a photo of Sabu?.. So what? You could have arranged for it.. Now, what should I do of this man here?.. You let it be. Now, I'll handle everything". Nisha muttered," Why do I always get the wrong guy? Why does it always happen with me?".

Kabir looked at Nisha, amazed. "You have done this kidnapping thing before?!". Nisha stared at Kabir," Had to. There was this person called Ritesh who.. Anyway," said Nisha, turning to the man in irritation,"All this could have been avoided if this guy had just told them that he wasn't Sabu!". The man bristled," Listen, Miss, you don't know what it is like to face four guys, all who are more powerful than you, alone. One versus four-". Nisha closed her eyes to stop the flood of memories. "- those four guys were tossing me around as if-". Nisha started shaking like a leaf. She pressed her hand against her forehead but it wasn't of any use. She was back at the sports meet. "That's enough!", yelled Viraj, cutting off the man.

Kabir watched all this baffled. Nishu's reaction scared him the most. He wanted to hold her but his instincts warned him against touching her. Her behavior was that of a wounded animal and he first had to know where the injury lied lest he did more harm than good. Viraj reached out for Nisha, to help but Nisha stepped back, clutching Kabir's arm instead. Kabir hugged Nisha, stroking her hair soothingly. Nisha leaned against him, inhaling his comforting fragrance. I am with Kabir, Nisha thought fiercely, pushing back the disturbing memories, nothing will happen to me. It killed Kabir inside to see Nisha like that. Trying to make her smile, he whispered in her ear," Daughter of Laxmi, relax me". Nisha took a deep breath and pulled away from Kabir. "I am sorry. It's all my fault that you are here", said Nisha to the man. Kabir held Nisha's hand and shook his head. "You will meet your brother, Kabir", said Nisha, earnestly. Kabir nodded, moved by the intensity of Nishu's love. Just a minute back, she couldn't stand straight yet now she worrying about him.

Nisha dialled K. Co.'s number given in their bill and Kabir snatched the phone from her. "You are not dealing with them. I had told you before", said Kabir, firmly. Nisha pulled back the phone and put the phone on speaker,"Happy?". A female's voice came through. "How may we help you?". Nisha tried to explain as best as she could. "This isn't our fault, Madam", said the receptionist," Order No. 695 was delivered as per instructions". Nisha quickly thought through," Look I understand the mistake was from our side. But not entirely. We had specifically asked for Sabu. This - delivery is not Sabu. There must be some-", What was that thing that Kirti always mentioned when she did online shopping? Ah! Yes!,"return back policy?". The man stared at Viraj, panicking again. The receptionist took a long moment before answering," Okay. Note down this complaint no. 54. We will get back in seven working days. Thank you for calling". "Wait! I don't- Hello? Hello? Darn!", shouted Nisha,"Will have to think of something else now". Kabir groaned inwardly as he started getting hiccups. His wifey was up to something major.
