Nice post for woman's day... well speaking about Navya, Navya being correct in her path n as a ideal wife to her hubby dunt want to bring barriers between d family bt barriers itself existed for her frm her sasuraal wale, nevertheless Navya being accused by her MIL nw, my8 take up sum steps in making anant spend holi wid his family as promised by her to her MIL... Navya dunt want to hurt nyones feelings n wants prosperity bt relations do nt accept n go in a ry8 way all d time...

Yes, completely agree. While they have such fancy tagline as "nayi soch", when it comes to portraying women it is still the stereotype! They always show women suffer, taking things lying down, older women in the family torturing the younger ones - ridiculous!

I am also writing to Anantika ji - atleast being a women she should be more sensitive to the issues and not depict women this way

They should show Navya as a more bold character.

Also, how can she hide the fact from Anant that his mother visited and shouted at her? Why should she hide? She deserves respect and should nto take all these lying down

Yesterday's encounter between Navya and Sugandha showed us the typical IN-LAW psychology. Right from the beginning the attitude is "My son can do no wrong. All the fault lies with the bahu."
Honestly speaking this is a common attitude in most Indian homes. I have also faced this non acceptance. But what is unrealistic is the meek submission by the DILs of Indian soaps. These heroines never think ill of their in laws no matter what.
This is quite unnatural. Is it not natural to feel angry, frustrated, maybe lose your cool once in a while? Also can there never be a forceful retaliation against injustice? Why do we have such an overdose of this holier than thou attitude?
I think the serial makers are not willing to take any risks. After all the Indian mythological heroines still have a great influence over the Indian psyche, and so it is safer to put all heroines in that mould.
Maybe Navya could set the trend and become the path breaker!

There are MILs who don't leave any stone unturned to accuse their DILs for each and everything, even if the latter is not at fault. But as Roomni said, what surprises me the most is the submissive attitude of the DILs. God has given the power and ability of speech to most of these DILs... Why they don't use their ability and clear all MUs is beyond my IQ level. And the most surprising thing is, these DILs don't even feel angry towards their MILs, rather than they justify them: How unrealistic, especially when most of these Devi maiiyas are educated!! I am not saying to rebel against your in-laws, but atleast, speak up if you know that you are right!! Please note that I am not justifying the MILs here. Their attitude of blaming their DILs for every freaking unhappenings in their house must too change. This is a very regressive attitude of our society (or atleast of our TV world, considering that Dukhiyarin abla bahus garner the highest TRPs) and THIS SHOULD CHANGE... TV has a great effect on our lives, and if the shows continue to portray women like this, then I am sorry to say but we will always be stuck in the 19th century, while the rest of the world will keep on progressing.

Love your post Ritchelle and living in US it amazes me that Indian public is so mesmerized by this crap where the abla nari scenario never ceases to fail.I know in most Indian households the DIL does get blamed but don't tell me there is no other way around.Why is that the soaps are always stuck with the same ghisa pita track in every soap and still people can't seem to get enough of it.If it was here, people would speak up and there would be an uproar of the kind of message being sent out to the masses and the younger generation which is growing up thinking its ok for a woman to tolerate this crap becoz she is born a woman.It's high time INdian society realized that fakeness is eventually going to take its toll.
