Farhan to judge Nach Baliye

His cousin, choreographer Farah Khan, was a judge on Indian Idol, while father Javed Akhtar is on the jury of Fame Gurukul, both on Sony. Now writer-director Farhan Akhtar (director of Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya) follows suit as judge in the Star One show, Nach Baliye.

Nach Baliye, which airs on Star One from October 11, will have telly couples battling for the crown of best dancing duo. The reality-based show will also look at the stars' personal lives, as they prepare to be in step with each other.

Ask him about being on a rival channel to the one his father and cousin are on, and he quips, "There's nothing like that. Star One approached me and I liked the project. It sounded like loads of fun and I took it up."

Akhtar is himself a great dancer, "Though I don't dance too often nowadays. There was a time when Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and break-dancing was the in thing, in the '80s. My friends and I would be at every party, break-dancing."

Tell him that Bollywood star dancer Hrithik Roshan claims that it was Akhtar who taught him what dance was all about, and he laughs it off, "We would all go out and break-dance together. In fact, Farah was always a great dancer and my source of inspiration."

As judge on Nach Baliye, Akhtar hopes to be "an observer" as the couples go through their paces. "I will be my casual self and do a honest critique of the bonding as well as the spirit of the couples." It is learnt that along with Akhtar, there will be two other judges on the show, who are yet to be finalised.

does farhan know anything abt dancing??i mean they can take any choreographer as a judge..

I guess Farhan then was the first to be annouced. I hope they have some famous non bolly wood personalities like some renowed classical dancers and teachers.
