Malaika Arora Khan needs no introduction. The style icon of her generation, whatever she does, she does it in great style. Her elegantly done-up duplex apartment in Bandra is in tune with her sultry personality. "My glamorous image is in complete contrast to my real personality," Malaika says as she takes us around her house… |
1. Step up Malaika moved into this house eight years ago on December 12. "We celebrate our wedding anniversary on that day," she says. The house was a gift to her from husband Arbaaz Khan. Malaika says that she did the interiors of the house at record speed, "I wanted everything ready before we got married," she says. On the first level, is a small terrace that connects the huge living room, the kitchen and a guest bedroom. The second floor comprises two bedrooms and another small terrace. |
2. 2. Pulling the right strings "There is no place in the world like my bedroom," she says. "Some dim lights and soft music, and I just don't feel the need to step out." Malaika says that she was very nervous during the initial days of her marriage. "I didn't know what my in-laws would like or not like, about me and my lifestyle. But all my worries were put to rest when they allowed me to be myself." She says that the Khans are big time foodies. Their all-time favourites are chicken and mutton biryani. |
3. Balcony seat This is the small terrace that is connected to her bedroom. "This is my little paradise," she says. But it is also the place that always keeps her worried. Her four-year-old son Arhaan is a complete prankster. "It's an open space so it's better that he stays away from this room. Arhaan's food habits are is more like Malaika's. "Like me, he prefers fish to chicken. Arbaaz doesn't touch vegetables but Arhaan is fond of them." Amongst his star uncles, Sohail is Arhaan's favourite. |
4. Khan and khana Malaika puts special premium on her dining table. "We have a huge family and our social life demands that we have one at home," she says. The Khan family celebrates every festival with great enthusiasm. "Christmas is celebrated at my and Helen aunty's house. Id is at my in-laws house. Diwali is celebrated at our's and Sohail-Seema's house." Being married for eight years she has become well-versed with the responsibility that comes with it. But one area that she fails in is that of cooking. She says, "I can be a decent cook but I'd rather my cook takes care of that department." |
5. Pet-ite There are times when Malaika and Arbaaz feel that they should move into a bigger house. "But just the thought of leaving this house depresses us. There are so many sweet memories attached to this place," she says. There is one section in her house that Malaika never wants anyone to see. "It's my wardrobe," she chuckles. "I keep buying clothes all the time. Things just keep lying around in my closet for months, and sometimes when I pull out outfits they still have price tags attached." Malaika has lost count of the shoes and bags she owns. "I believe in self-indulgence," she winks. |
