OK now I want to make a disclaimer before I start this post. This post or
comments made in this post are not - I repeat NOT directed towards any
particular couple. So please dont jump on my case or defend your
favourite jodi. My comments are generally about the TV industry.

I have friends who work in the industry and they are NOT actors. From
what I have heard the TV industry is worse than Bollywood and that is
true in all matters. Right from competition to the casting couch to the
addictions (alcohol, tobbacco, drugs) it all exists and fairly openly.

So my comment is this: in a place where there is SO much competition,
peer pressure, need to succeed, absolute requirement to party, I would
not be surprised if most if not all of these people smoke. It is just the
nature of the industry.

Frisky, have you been reading the earlier posts on this topic or just jumped in? Nobody is baiting just the girls. Smoking is a terrible habit, whether males or females indugle in it. And for all those stupid celebs who think they look sexy and hip while smoking, I have one comment. Nothing is sexy about lung cancer! 🤢 🤢 🤢

alcohol is more dangerous for health and harmful for the fetus as well.when one drinks he is not ruining his life but affecting others as well.e.g if a drinker gets to drive a car he is all set for an accident while this is not the case with a smoker. drunk man loses senses and comits shameful acts as well while its not the case with smoker.
smoking is dangerous for health but far less than alcohol. there should be anti alcohol compaign in the world just like there is anti smoking campaign every weher

Priti, please read my posts again. I was responding to Bansari7's and samsidd's comments specifically about women smoking.

Firstly, its sexist (to say that women especially shouldn't smoke) and secondly its condescending to assume you know better. You think these women don't know it might be bad for their health. So many of us know soda and fatty foods are bad for us and cause so many deadly diseases still we can't help consuming them.

You may think it's condescending but it's a fact that some people do know better than these tv stars. Late nights, constant partying, sleep deprivation, boozing, chain smoking, taking party drugs (which many stars do) are much more destructive habits than mere junk food consumption and soft drinks. Look at the cumulative effect.

Plus I find these ppl in showbiz hypocritical precisely because on the one hand they keep talking about how they do yoga, meditation, visit spas etc and on the other hand they have pathetic lifestyles. I like watching tv stars but I certainly don't think they are good role models.

As far as criticising goes, tv stars do it too. When Gurdeep Arjun did that parody of Laloo Prasad and his 10 kids in this zamana of 'hum do hamare do', wasn't that a criticism? Aren't they too implying that a politician should have more sense????

I think smoking is stupid, irresepective of gender. I am a woman and I am smart enuff not to take drugs, not to smoke, not to ruin my body.If some people imply that smoking id ok for guys but not girls, I disagree with it because it's double standards but neither would I as a woman purposely smoke just to defy gender stereotypes.

Plus if these women KNOW the risks and still succumb to it, well, they are even more idiotic, aren't they? Villagers may smoke beedis constantly and not know abt the health risks, but these people do and still ignore it. At the end of the day, everyone's choice is their own, if they want to destroy their body, that's their life. It's not illegal. But that doesn't mean people cannot have an opinion about it. Plus, many IF forums are teenagers, if they read these posts, I hope they will be able to resist such idiotic temptations. I am 26 and well past these things but many young viewers who idolise these ppl are not. It's good for them to also see pros and cons of such things.

If anything, this has sparked a healthy debate regarding social mores and addictions. Would you prefer it if people just didn't express their opinions because others will think it's condescending? Hah!
