The director says that his interest in choreography urged him to judge 'Nach Baliye 2'.
Life often comes full circle. For director Kunal Kohli, judging 'Nach Baliye 2' (Star One) will bring him back to the medium he began his career from. Incidentally, Kohli was a film critic for shows including 'Chalo Cinema'.
"But I can't be a film critic anymore. I guess you can't play the roles of a critic and a filmmaker simultaneously," explains Kohli, the directorial brain behind blockbuster films, 'Hum Tum' and 'Fanaa'.
So, how has been the homecoming? "Television has changed so much. I am amazed at the reach of the medium," he says.
He explains why he agreed to judge the dance show saying, "I love songs and dances. Even in my films, a lot of emphasis is placed on choreography and shot-taking. I get very involved in the song-picturisations."
Kohli has been an ardent fan of filmmakers Vijay Anand, Raj Khosla and Manoj Kumar. "I loved the way they shot their films and songs. I have been inspired by them," he admits.
While 'Nach Baliye 2' has limited episodes, Kohli is open to more work in television, "provided it is exciting." But Kohli's top priority is his next film, which he will be producing.
Any plans to move out of the Yashraj camp? "My films are individualistic. Of course, Yashraj has been really helpful. They are very much a part of my films. But both 'Hum Tum' and 'Fanaa' and even 'Mujhse Dosti Karogi' were as much my films as theirs," says Kohli.
