The Big Nach Baliye Fight on Friday

Jeet ka junnon liye Nach Baliye 4 ki fantastic Jodis hai tayyar! The show has reached the climax and Nach Baliye 4 mahamuquabala will be tougher and bigger than ever.
The competition has intensified with each performance improving than the last, leaving the judges in a dilemma! Each of the jodis are hoping to mesmerize the audiences and jury with their stupendous performance. It is the survival of the finest dancer and the jodis have gone all out to impress the judges.
The do or die battle will begin with the veteran jodi of Nach Baliye - Yash & Gauri Tonk. They prove their mettle on the song 'Main Aisa Kyu Hu' which is extremely well choreographed and executed that surely get the jodis anxiety level at an all time high. Taking risks at this point in time is not something that a jodi would divulge in but the cute jodi - Naman and Megha jump into the same by taking on the risk factor! While Shaleen - Daljeet and Kapil – Anjali, too do not lag behind in exhibiting marvelous stunts and dance leaving the audience and the judges awestruck.

Catch all the excitement, nail biting anticipation and the Aankhri Daav of the top four jodis this Friday January 23 at 8 PM only on STAR PLUS.

Daljit and Shaleen ready for NB finale?

Daljit Kaur and Shaleen Bhanot are putting the finishing touches to their performance for Nach Baliye. With the competition's finale round the corner, the tension is high and even a small slip up can mean an ouster from the competition. We speak to Daljit about her preparation for the show, what she thinks are her chances of making it into the final and of course winning the competition.

How has your journey in Nach been so far?
It has been a beautiful journey all together. Nach has taught me to smile on the camera even if I am under any stress. Apart from that Nach has given me the opportunity to spend quality time with Shaleen and we've gotten closer.

How much do you think you have improved in terms of dance?
I am someone who doesn't party at all. Nach has taught me to dance and actually dance well. It's now a compliment...I can see that I've improved a lot and specially when I see my fans complimenting me, I believe it's true!

Apart from dance, what else have you learnt from Nach?
Nach has taught me to accept criticism and to be more sensitive with myself. It has taught me to be more positive and strong.

How tough is the competition for you at this time? Who according to you is your toughest competitor at this stage?
The competition is obviously very tough as other 3 jodis are equally popular and good in terms of dance. We are trying our best, let's see what happens next.

Throughout the journey so far, did you feel disappointed at any point of time?
Not disappointed as such but extremely depressed during the solo round where I performed on 'More Piya.' from Devdas. It was supposed to be mind-blowing but it all got ruined. Actually what happened as that firstly toh our choreographers changed the previous night and secondly during my performance, my back dancers were supposed to come and hold my hand but at the last moment they couldn't hold my hand as their hands were too sticky and slippery. That really made me angry.

You've come in danger zones many times...
We've always been showered with the blessings and wishes of our fans. When we came in the danger zone too, we received mails from many of our fans who said that 'we will make you win' and since then we haven't come in the danger zone. So, I think they all appreciate our hard work and creativity and hence will continue to support us.

How are you coping with the pressure now?
Well, where we used to sleep for 3 hours a day now we sleep for only 2! (Laughs)

In the time you have spent with Shaleen, what did you discover about him which you didn't know earlier?
I've discovered that for him competition is not what matters, instead it's my happiness because whenever I get nervous about anything he's the one who tells me not to worry and that's what keeps me going.

Being a religious person, have you prayed for your success?
We normally pray at every achievement of ours.. irrespective of Nach. Avina didi, my hairdresser, goes to Haji Ali and prays for us and my parents too go to the Gurudwara. Shaleen on the other hand has a habit of lighting a diya everyday and his mom has immense belief in Ramji, toh she lights diya on my behalf too.

Will Shaleen and Daljt survive?

With each jodi so keen on doing something different for their performance at the Maha Muquabala, surprises await not just for NB4 fans but also the judges. First to perform are Yash and Gouri who are literally cut into half for their performance on Main Aisa Kyoon Hoon. The performance impresses Farah Khan so much; she tells them that she has never, ever seen anything like this before.

Kapil and Anjali also have a surprise waiting for the judges. For the first time ever on Nach Baliye 4, they put together a totally western performance. While the judges love the glamour and the stunts, it is Anjali's total transformation from a sweet, innocent girl for the act that bowls all three of them.

Talking of stunts, Naman and Megha once again win over the judges with the use of really complicated props. Their high energy act wins them several praises.

But the real surprise comes with Shaleen and Daljit who perform on skates. While their entrance blows the judges away, their performance leaves them cold. Even as the judges talk about their disappointment, Karishma breaks down and begins crying.

While the acts were all bold and daring, it remains to be seen who will survive elimination in this episode.
And will Shaleen and Daljit manage to do well in the next round? Was is it a bad idea for them to perform on skates when neither had ever used one before?

Rakhi to rock like Helen on NB Finale

Despite having walked off last year's finale, Rakhi Sawant is putting behind all her anger and has agreed to come and perform on the Nach Baliye finale on February 1.

"Yes I will be performing on Nach Baliye's finale. I have started rehearsing day and night also. I am going to perform on the melodies of Helen like Chaye Mera Jadoo, Aaj Ki Raat, Monica and two more songs. I know nobody can dance better than me on these songs after Helenji," an excited Rakhi informs.
"I am little bit apprehensive also. This is the first time that I will be doing a cabaret. This performance is especially for my fans that have been supporting me and of course for Farah Khan, who is my favourite judge amongst all of them. I am going to rock the finale with my performance that is four sure, as I going have identical costume like Helanji and even golden hairstyle like her," adds Rakhi.

Rakhi was part of Nach Baliye's last season with her ex-beau Abhishek Awasthi. They made it to the finals but felt cheated when Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh won the title. After that she did not do any show with the channel till December 2008 when she signed Aree Deewano Mujhe Pehchano.

ARJUN RAMPAL
[20 Jan 2009]

I WOULD LOVE TO ACT IN A SHOW LIKE 24

"Arjun doesn't need a makeover; he's a style icon as it is," divulges designer Anahita Shroff of heartthrob Arjun Rampal, who took us by surprise with his great performance in Rock On this year. AR has now descended on the small screen as a judge on Nach Baliye 4, which raised quite a few eyebrows.

While Arjun gets acquainted with the various dance forms for Nach…, Anahita styles him with a brand new funky and edgy look for the same, a far cry from his clichd signature style. All this and more, while we have a quick tte--tte with Arjun Rampal on everything about Indian television.

How much time do you spend watching TV everyday?

I don't watch television that much, mainly because I don't get the time. But if I do, I watch sports channels, the History Channel and Nach Baliye 4 for some time. If I had more time, I would rather play video games.

Which are your favourite shows on TV?

I love Nach Baliye 4!

Who are your favourite personalities on TV?

Shah Rukh Khan.

If you were to act in a daily soap, it would be…

I would love to act in a show like 24. But if you ask me about an Indian daily soap, I don't think I would want to act in one, as I don't watch them at all.

What do you love the most about Indian television?

I think our Indian serials are quite mad and crazy. Indian TV is growing and the shows are getting a little more original. So that's pretty cool.

What do you detest the most about Indian television?

The herd mentality; that is if you start one show on a channel, you get ten more shows exactly like the first. And all these shows lack ideas.

Name two television stars you'd recognize even in a crowd.

I think Shah Rukh Khan and Mr. Bachchan! But seriously speaking of television soap stars, it would be Kapil and Anjali, who are dancing in Nach… I know them not only because of Nach…, but also because they are doing a show called Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. So I will recognize them instantly in a huge crowd.

Your take on Indian news channels…

Some of the news channels are really good and reliable. But some of them have breaking news every five minutes and these are the ones that I don't believe in.

When's the last time you watched TV at a stretch?

This weekend, that too because Nach Baliye 4 was going on.

Your earliest memories of Indian television…

Oh, I have some wonderful memories. I remember standing on our roof and shifting the antenna, trying to figure out if the signal has come or not!

Why do you think film stars are turning to TV of late?

Television is a medium, which goes out to so many people and it is growing hugely every single day. It's a great opportunity to do something that you enjoy doing. You cannot ignore it. I for one, am from the entertainment industry, and I want to grow within this industry.

And television is very much a big part of it. Even when I was invited to judge Nach... I looked at it as an opportunity to understand the medium. So I think it's perfectly fine for film stars to come on the small screen.

Your dream role on television…

I think it would be hosting a show like Oprah. It will be very cool.

If you were a TV star…

I would be very very very successful!

NB4 to come to a dhamakedar end!

In only days, NB4 with all it's drama, twists and fabulous dance performances is about to come to an end. And trust us, the best is only about to come.
And of course, to add just the right amount of excitement to the show, the winning jodi is to be announced on the Nach stage but none other than KING KHAN! Shahrukh Khan, who will come to the live telecast of the finale to promote his latest movie, Billu Barber, will announce the winner amongst the two jodis based on audience votes, so don't forget to vote for your favourite jodi!
And as for performances, it won't just be the jodis who will are set to dance on stage, but also their friends and family. Don't miss Saturday's performances when the jodis give each other takkar and are provided encouragement from their celebrity friends and the judges who get down on the dancefloor to put up some fantastic performances.
As for Friday, the stage will be taken over by a whole new set of dancers - 5 girls from all over India who are all set to perform and win Harshad Chopra's heart in Talash-e-Baliye. Watch out for mindblowing performances by all the girls including Anisha, who made it to the competition as the MySpace winner.

Nach Baliye's Resshmi Ghosh turns Bengali heroine

After shaking a leg with her beau Amit on Nach Baliye 4, Resshmi Ghosh who played Bhoomi in Kyunki, will be seen in a Bengali film where she'll essay the role of Pandit Ravi Shankar's musician daughter Anoushka Shankar. She tells us about the movie.

"The movie is called Pa Ma Ga Re Sa. The story is based on the life of Pandit Ravi Shankar and his two daughters- Anoushka and Norah. It is based on the relationship and emotions he shares with them. It speaks about the relation between two sisters, then Anoushka's romantic relationship and covers other aspects of her life. It has a tinge of the old movie Abhimaan," informs Resshmi.
Elaborating on her character, she tells us, "I am playing the character of Anoushka who is a very simple girl. It is basically the story of her life and depicts how she learns music, how she meets her guy, the relation she shares with her sister and other emotional aspects. The name of the character has however not been decided".

Resshmi can't contain her excitement about her first Bengali film. "Amit also understands Bengali completely although he finds it a little difficult to speak. I am too excited as for the first time, he will be watching and hearing me speak in Bengali for the first time on screen," she laughs.

Ghosh was approached for this role when she was shooting for Nach Baliye 4. She says "I was approached by the director and it seems he had been looking out for me for this role. After I wrapped up with Nach Baliye 4, I went to my hometown Kolkatta to know more about the movie and now that I know what it is all about, I am doing it".

The Nach Baliye 4 girl says the character and the simple concept was what inspired her to take up this movie "I was always open to Bengali films as it's my mother tongue. Secondly, the story is very unique and makes good sense. I was actually looking out for something where I wanted to play a realistic and a parallel role and this had all the ingredients" quips the actress.

So, does this mean the lady will bid goodbye to the small screen?
"No, not all… I am not leaving television for sure. Although I will take up roles from Bollywood and would also look forward to do more of Bengali cinema, I will definitely continue to do television as well" clarifies the actress.

The movie is based on the real life relationship that Pandit Ravi Shankar shares with his daughters Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones. The director of the movie is Surajit Dhar and it is produced by a group called 'Bunch of Buddies'. The other cast would include Nandana Sen who has been approached but the other cast members are not finalized as yet.

The major portion of the movie will be shot in Shillong with some scenes in Kolkatta. The actress will fly to Kolkatta at the beginning of March and the shooting will commence in mid-March.
