Chapter 1: First Day

Avni's POV
"Avni! Avni!" I heard my name as I awoke due to the light rays coming from the window.
Who is that. I thought in my mind.
I covered my ears with a pillow as the sound became louder, then I realized the voice belongs to Neela maa.
"Avni utho, you're late" Neela maa said.
"Oh no, it's my first day " I scream in my mind and my eyes widen.
"Maa why didn't you wake me up earlier, I forgot to set an alarm" I said.
"sorry, I came home late last night so I overslept" she said.
I jumped up from the bed and sprinted to the bathroom, I only had 25 minutes to get ready. I wore the outfit I picked out last night, it was professional.
I grabbed my bag and the sandwich Neela maa made for me and left. I looked for a taxi but I couldn't find one, I looked at my watch and it was 8:45 I had only 15 minutes left to get to work and I can't be late on my first day. I kept on looking for a taxi when a car drove up to me.
Neil's POV
I was heading to work when I saw a girl who was looking for a taxi (because of her hand gesture) I noticed she had a worried look on her face, I drove up to her and said.
"Hi, where are you going?" Neil said.
"I'm going to work" Avni said
"Come in, I'll drop you" Neil says.
Avni really didn't want to go with a stranger, but she didn't have a choice cause she was late. She reluctantly entered the car.
"So where do you work" he asked her.
"Khanna Industries" she hesitated before she answered
Hmmn, so she works in our company. He thought in his mind.
"I also work there but I've never seen you there before" he said
"that's because today is my first day" Avni says.
"oh ok, what's your name" he says,
She hesitated again before answering "Avni"
"I'm Neil " Neil said.
After a few minutes they arrived and parked his car in the parking lot, Avni looked out the window admiring the tall building.
"Thanks" Avni said, "you're welc..." he said but before he could complete it Avni had already dashed out of the car.
She walked to the receptionist and asked for Prakash Khanna's office.
"what's your name please" the receptionist smiled with the bright red lipstick on her lips that Avni couldn't stop looking at.
"Avni Ayesha" Avni said.
The receptionist scrolled through the list on the computer and found her name.
"Yes, you have an appointment with Prakash sir by 9am, go to the 7th floor 2nd door on the right" the receptionist said.
"Thank you" Avni said.
She walked to the elevator and she moves to press the button but another hand also does the same, she looks to her side to see Neil.
They shared a look and they both entered the elevator. It was silent but they caught a glimpse of each other at times.
The elevator opened and Avni walked out first while Neil went to his office.
Avni knocked on the door and the next thing she heard was "come in"
She entered and greeted the figure sitting on the office chair at the other end of the room. "Good morning sir"
"you're late, Ms. Avni" Prakash Khanna said.
"I'm sorry sir, this won't happen again again" Avni said.
" I'm letting this go because of your qualifications, but mind you, this won't be tolerated next time"
" Yes Sir "
"Your office is the 3rd one to the left" he said.
"Ok sir" Avni said.
"And you are to report to Neil Khanna, he is the head of your department. Go to his office which is opposite yours and collect your files" he said.
Neil , is he the same Neil who dropped me, he sounded as if he was just a normal employee. She thought .
"OK sir" Avni said.
"you can leave" Prakash said.
She left his office and walked to Neil's office. She knocked on the door and entered after being asked to come in.
"Good morning Sir " Avni said. Neil lifted his head from the file he was reading to look at her.
" Miss Avni? " he said,
"Yes. You didn't talk about being a director in this company...Sir" Avni said as she smiled slightly
"well I didn't find it necessary and I know if I had told you, you will start to talking weirdly as you're doing now." he smirked.
"OK, but Prakash Sir had asked me to collect some files from you" Avni said.
"Here" he gave her the file. She walked out but stopped when she heard him call her name
"Do you want to go for coffee after work?" Neil said
" Uh... sure. Sir " Avni said and smiled.
