Avni sat down in the cafe opposite Neil, shoving the food around on her plate, yet again she got close to finding out about her mothers killer, but she still didnt succeed. It hurt a lot.
"Oh my, Neil is that you"
Avni looked up at the short woman, her long black hair was in a ponytail and she smiled over at Avni
Avni smiled back
Neil stood up "Mittali, its so good to see you" he hugged her

She raised her arms, hugging him back "I see being a bodyguard suits you, look at these muscles" she squeezed his bicep
Avni rolled her eyes, couldnt she flirt on her timing not when Neil was busy with her
"Mittali this is Avni, Avni this is Mittali"
Avni shook her hand
"Nice to meet you" she smiled
Avni nodded and muttered a "you to" before sitting back down again
Mittali put her head to the side "New project"

Avni's eyes widened, new project? Really?
Neil laughed, "Yeah something like that"
Avni avoided looking up at them, the last thing she wanted was to show them how angry she was at that little comment,
"Why dont you sit with us" asked Neil
Avni rolled her eyes as Mittali sat down
Avni rested back on the chair and looked to the side, a man looked over his newspaper, directly at her
The man stood up slowly and placed his paper down, he patted the paper and eyed her again before walking out

"I just need to go to the bathroom" Avni excused herself and walked towards the newspaper on the table, she lifted it up and flicked through the pages
She stopped halfway through at the letter on the paper
'Its good to see you back Avni, maybe we can talk about Ayesha soon'
Avni jumped when she felt a hand on her shoulder
Neil's breath tickling her neck "Thought you said you were going to the bathroom"
Avni handed him the note
Neil looked down at it and shook his head "So youre being watched, I need to get you out of here"

Neil wrapped his fingers around her wrist and dragged her out of the cafe, Avni looked back at Mittali who wore a confused expression
Neil stopped at the car "get in"
Avni got in the car and watched as Neil looked around
Neil slid into the car and started the car, he looked over at Avni who was looking out the window
"Ill get the letter checked for prints, maybe we can find out who the person was that wrote it"
Avni swiped away a tear and nodded

Neil sighed, he couldnt really imagine what it was like to lose your own mother, and to know she never could find out who killed her mother, made the pain even worse.
Neil soon arrived at Avni's house and walked in with her
Avni walked over to Neela and kissed her on the cheek
"Find anything" she asked hopefully
Avni shrugged "Nothing that leads us anywhere concrete"
Neela cupped her cheek "Sorry Avni"
Avni smiled and walked upstairs

Neil waited for a while then walked to Avni's room
Neil raised his hand to knock when he heard her sing softly
Neil pushed the door open slightly and watched Avni faced away from him, she seemed to have something in her hand and was singing a lullaby he wasnt sure he had heard before
Neil could help but be enchanted by her voice, and without realising he stepped closer to her and rested his hand on her shoulder

Avni turned around quickly and put the photo down
She wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face into his chest, she sobbed loudly
Neil raised his right hand and tapped her head, his body still stiff, he wasnt used to having someone so close to him
Neela walked past the bedroom and smiled, she was thankful Avni had someone she could atleast call a friend
Neil pulled away "Look, you made my shirt wet"
Avni wiped at her tears and smiled up at him, greatful he didnt make a big deal out of her being sad

Neil picked the teddy bear off the bed and held it up mockingly "As I said, still childish arent you"
Avni rolled her eyes and went to grab it back but he held it up higher "Nooo, not that easily, youll have to prove something first"
Avni tried to grab it again and sighed when she couldnt "prove what" she asked, teeth gritted
Neil pouted and spoke in a childish voice "Can you sleep without it"
Now Avni wasnt going to tell Neil it was the bear her mother had bought for her when she was young and that it helped take the nightmares away, he already thought she was childish and didnt want to make it worse

"Of course I can" she asserted, her hands on her hips
Neil smirked "Do prove it please"
Avni sat back on the bed "Go away then, so I can go to sleep"
Neil looked at Avni's red rimmed eyes, he wasnt the best at supporting someone and didnt want to admit he was worried, so would use this as an excuse to stay with her throughout the night
"No, I am going to stay, just to make sure you can sleep without it"
Avni led down and turned on her side away from Neil, she took a deep breath before closing her eyes

When Neil was sure she was asleep, he led on the sofa and closed his eyes
It wasnt long after when Neil heard a strangled sob, he sat up quickly and made his way to Avni
"Avni, Avni, its okay, its only a nightmare"
Avni soon awoke, she stared up at him before grabbing his arm tightly "It seemed so real" she sniffed
Neil got her to move over and sat next to her "Its okay, im here, dont worry"
Avni closed her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder, feeling a lot more safe than before

Neil woke up before Avni, he looked down at her and then pulled his dead arm away from her slightly
Avni pulled away as soon as she woke up and looked down
"Morning" he muttered, his voice husky from sleep
Avni nodded, she stood up, grabbed some clothes and made her way to the bathroom
After getting ready, she was relieved to see that Neil was no longer in her bedroom

"Hello" Avni spoke into her phone
"Avni, Avni, please say youre coming out tonight"
Avni tapped her foot, scrunching up her nose, she knew it probably wasnt a good idea but it would give her the opportunity to prove to Neil that she wasnt childish or immature, that she was a woman- in every way
"Yeah, ill be there, mind if I bring a friend"
Neil raised his eyebrow at Avni and she smiled at him, tonight would definitely prove her right and Neil wrong

Neil looked down at Avni, downing yet another shot "Dont you think that's enough"
Avni smiled sloppily "No, Khanna, no I do not"
She stood away from the bar slowly and wrapped her arms around his neck "Dance with meee" she pleaded
Neil looked up at the man eyeing her, then nodded

Avni turned around to face the crowd and pulled him behind her, she wrapped his arms around her waist and swayed to the music, she leaned back against him, unable to stand properly.
She closed her eyes, focusing on his arms tight around her waist, she pulled his arms apart, turned and looked up at him.
She wound her arms around his shoulders as someone knocked her forward.

Avni gripped his collar tightly, her breathing heavy on his neck sending tingles across his body. He swallowed the lump in his throat and pushed her back slightly.
Avni giggled and leaned her forehead on his chest.
Neil looked up at the woman who was glaring at Avni's back, when Avni felt Neil's muscles clench, she looked behind her and huffed.

Assuming Neil found the woman attractive, she shoved him away and walked to a tall man. "Lift me onto the bar" she shouted over the music
The man nodded and lifted her up.
Avni looked over at Neil, she could feel the anger coursing through her veins, she wasnt sure why she wanted him to notice her so much, but she did.

She pulled her hair down, and shook her head making it topple down her back.
Riya jumped up beside her, they both danced on the bartop.
Neik couldnt help but feel this was like that scene out of Coyote Ugly.
He watched as a man lifted his hand and clasped it around her ankle, he clenched his fist

He wasnt sure why he felt so protective of her.
"Avni, get down" he looked up at her
Avni shook her head "Hey everyone listen, Mr Khanna thinks I am childish, do you think I am childish"
The crowd roared loudly disagreeing with Neil.
Avni stumbled forward, Neil caught her gladly and stormed out of the club.
"Heyyy, I was having fun" she whined

Neil put her down "You call that fun, dancing in front of all those people"
Avni pouted "Well atleast they noticed me"
Neil frowned "What the hell is that meant to mean"
Avni's eyes were teary as she looked up "Im a woman, not a girl Khanna, stop treating me like one"
Neil's chest rose heavily in his anger, he clenched his fist and turned away "Lets just get you home"

Avni shook her head "No, I am going back in"
Neil grabbed her wrist "No, you are not, dont argue with me Avni, I'm not in the mood"
"You're not in the mood oh brilliant"
Neil rolled his eyes "Avni, please just for once in your life listen to me"
Avni looked up at him "Fine, just answer one question"
Neil nodded

"What does Mittali have that I dont, you treat her like a woman"
Neil shook his head "We can talk about that another time"
Avni shook her head "No, now"
"You know I could just drag you to the car"
Avni stood up on her tiptoes "Then why aren't you"
Neil looked down at Avni "There is no comparison between you and Mittali"

Avni looked away "Thats not an answer"
Neil growled, gripping her arms "You infuriate me, she doesnt, you dont listen, she does, she is a co-worker and you're just a "
"Just a what" Avni retorted
Neil looked into her eyes "Just a job" he released her, making her falter back
Avni looked away, wiping her tears, his words having sobered up
"Take me home" she whispered
Neil nodded and walked with her to the car

Avni woke up the next day, her head heavy. She pulled herself up slowly and walked toward the bathroom.
After waking herself up more, she walked downstairs, past Neil who sat on the sofa.
"Avni" Neela called
Avni turned around to greet her "Morning"
Neela kissed her cheek "I need to run some errands, so im going to take a driver with me, Neil will stay with you at home"
Avni nodded and waved her a goodbye

Avni made herself a cup of tea and leant against the kitchen side as she sipped it
"What are you just gonna never talk to me again now" Neil asked, facing her
Avni looked up at him "We're not friends, im just the childish girl you protect right, your job, so to do it properly, we dont have to talk to eachother"
Neil pinched the brim of his nose "I didnt mean that Avni"

"Yes Neil, yes you did"
Neil looked taken aback "Why are you being so formal"
"How am I being formal" Avni asked
"Calling me Neil, you dont call me that, you call me"
Avni rolled her eyes "Khanna, yes I know, but thats when I thought you had a heart, but clearly you don't, we should be formal"
Neil shook his head "Avni, come on"

Avni put her hand up, stopping him from speaking anymore "You're just my bodyguard, nothing less and definitely nothing more"
She stormed off, leaving him stood in the kitchen alone

"Happy birthday Neela Ma" said Avni joyously, she hugged her tightly, her eyes met Neil's. She wanted to be happy today, but Neil had ruined her mood.
Neil came forward "Happy birthday ma'am"
Neela cupped his cheek "Please, call me Neela, it makes me feel old" she laughed
Neil needed a way to spend time with Avni today, he needed to sort this out, he wasnt sure why it bothered him so much, but it did

Neil followed Avni up the stairs as Neela walked out the front door to see her friends
Avni turned around in the middle of the stairs "Must you follow me everywhere"
Neil smirked "Yes, I am a body guard, if im far away I cant protect you"
"Well I dont want you to be near me all the time"
"I took an oath" he replied prominently
"You and your oath can go to"
"Say what you like about me but never insult my oath"
He pointed his finger at her
She wrapped her finger around his "Dont point, its rude"

Without thinking she leaned forward making him stumble, she grabbed his t-shirt to pull him back, making his lips hit hers in her haste to save him.
Their eyes widened and Avni pulled away, putting her hands down.
She turned quickly and ran past him downstairs
"Avni, Avni wait"
Neil ran down the stairs, grabbing her elbow he turned her back around "Would you just talk to me, you're driving me crazy"

"Im driving you crazy, really, so what , now you suddenly care, have emotions, im just your job, stay in your limits"
"My limits, and what about yours, getting jealous of Mittali"
"I am not jealous" she shouted back, her nose an inch away from his
"Oh really, so asking me what Mittali has that you dont, if thats not jealousy, what is it"
"Its because you treat me like a child, and I am not a child"
"Then stop acting like one"
"How do I act like one"

"Always making stupid decisions, that endanger you, that time in the club" he paused, he was angry at her for never taking care of herself and angry at himself for caring.
Avni sighed "Okay, enough, just forget it, you do your job"
Neil's face softened "And what will you do"
Avni sighed "I will allow you to do it without argument"
Neil grasped her hand "I cant change who I am and I am truly sorry if my behaviour upsetts you, its just who I am"
Avni tapped his arm "Dont apologise, im just your job right"
She walked away, Neil looked down at his hand that was holding hers, she didnt feel like just a job

"So, its come to this" Avni whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks, she grasped the side tightly and hissed in pain.
Neil held the sharp knife up close to her as he watched her pained expression.
"It burns" she closed her eyes, sniffing.
She opened them slowly, blinking through the tears, she breathed in, then out.

"I did say not to wipe your eyes with the same hand you held the onions with, but you didnt listen"
Avni raised her brow "You told me after I did it, not before" she muttered
Neil rested the knife down, he closed her eyes and continued to blow on top of them.
He swiped away at her tears, she opened her eyes slowly, gazing into his
They held the eyelock for a while until Avni pulled away when Neil's phone rang

"Hello Sir"
"Neil, we got information on Reyansh"
"Anything of use"
"Reyansh was in love with Ayesha, he sent her a letter that she never received, telling her he would leave his family to marry her, but I think his family could have had something to do with him thinking she didnt love him back"
Neil nodded "And Abbas, Ayesha's brother, anything on him"
"Reyansh's mother Laila bought his house and kicked him out, but thats all we know"
Avni shook her head "Any idea why Laila and the rest of his family hated my mother"

Neil shook his head "I dont think we need to know that"
Avni furrowed her brows "No, come on, I want to know"
"Because she had a child from another marriage" replied Gaurav
"Sir, ill call you back" Neil cut the phone quickly
Avni fell into the side "So, my mother is dead because of me, she could never have her love and be happy all because I was born"
"No, Avni, listen, they are just close minded, none of this is your fault"
"Yes it is Khanna, yes it is" she walked away quickly

Avni sat on a bench in the park, her hands rubbing her arms, she wiped away her tears. Neil ran over quickly "Avni, ive been looking for you everywhere" he pulled her up, she blinked slowly

"Because I was worried, come on lets get you home"
She shook her head "Im poison, anything I go near gets hurt, all of this was my fault, I never should have been born"
"Dont say that" he ordered "Dont even think that because its not true okay, you were a child and your mother loved you, Reyansh was going to accept you, if his family couldnt see how great you were, that's there downfall"

Neil rolled his eyes as his phone rung again "Neil, tell me youre with Avni and Neela" asked Gaurav
Neil frowned "Im with Avni"
"Reyansh called in, hes coming after them today, you need to get to Neela quickly"
Neil cut the phone and grabbed Avni's hand "Come on, we have to get there before he does"
