My Bodyguard- Part 5 Page 3

Part 1-

A young six year old girl ran through her house "mama, mama im hungry"
She stopped at the loud sound and held onto her necklace tightly
"Mama" she whispered, tears filling up her eyes
She stepped forward and gasped at her mothers body on the floor
She ran over to it "mama, wake up, mama"
Ayesha opened her eyes slowly and grasped her daughters hand
"Avni, run, dont let them see your necklace"
Her hand dropped from Avni's and her eyes rolled back
Avni released a shaky sob as she stood up, shutting her mothers eyes she ran

She ran and ran until a young woman came upon her
"Wheres you parents" the woman asked
Avni sobbed "My mama is dead, I dont have a papa"
The woman knelt down on her knees and wrapped her arms around Avni
"My name is Neela, I will take care of you okay"
Avni nodded, she allowed Neela to take her to safety and on that day she never looked back, leaving the small city she previously resided in.

15 Years Later-

Her mother's killer was never found, the case was open and shut and her mother never received the peace she deserved
But Avni never forgot, and she never would.
Avni placed down the picture frame of her and her mother and sighed heavily
She wanted more than anything to allow her mothers soul to rest in peace but she had no idea where to start, she just prayed that there would be someone out there who could help her, someone who could understand

A young man sat at a desk, signing off yet another case
He felt a hard slap on his back and he looked up
"You never fail to amaze me Neil honestly, every case is done precise and to the point and thats why there's no one else I would ever trust to carry out this case" spoke Gaurav proudly
"What case sir"
He handed a file to Neil and Neil opened it
"Fifteen years ago a woman was killed, shot to the heart, her six year old daughter found her, you know I said I want to solve old cases, well this is one thats played on my mind a lot because I was the leading officer of the case before I started working here"

Neil nodded, his heart filled with sympathy
"I have no idea how hard that must have been, I would love to help"
Gaurav smiled "I was hoping you would say that"
Neil flicked through the file and stopped on a woman's picture
"Who's that"
"That is Avni, she is Ayesha's daughter, the woman who was killed, shes twenty one now, she was given a necklace by her mum, she was told to not let anyone have it, that was the last words her mother said to her, Ayesha's death shook up the small town"

"We will get this killer Sir, I promise you that"
Gaurav patted his shoulder "Shes a looker I know, but remember your job okay, and keep her safe and Neela, her adopted mother, thats your first priority, I have spoken to Neela and you start tomorrow okay"
Neil laughed "Dont you worry Sir, no girl has ever caught my heart, she wont be the one to"

Neela welcomed Neil in, shaking his hand
"Hi, you must be Neil, I am Neela, its nice to meet you"
Neil shocked her by lowering down and taking her blessings
"Oh, I wasnt expecting that" she laughed
Neil smiled "So, Avni"
"I havent told her about you yet as she slept early, but if you explain to her when you see her she will be fine"
Neil nodded and followed Neela to outside Avni's room
"I just have to do something downstairs but shout if you need me, Avni isnt awake yet"

Avni jumped out of bed, quickly running to the bathroom she quickly cleaned her teeth and washed her face
She looked down at her sky blue pyjamas with yellow ducks on it and smiled, they were the comfiest pyjamas she owned and she loved them very much
She pulled open her bedroom door and saw a man facing away from her
She slowly shut the door again without making a sound

"He must be blocking me from getting out for a reason, if I hit him over the head I can get out" she uttered to herself and grabbed the ornament on her bedside table
Pulling the door open quickly she slammed it on his head and frowned when instead of falling down he turned around
"What the hell" he shouted
"Get away or ill call the police"
Neil rubbed his head "Is this how you welcome all your guests, my god, crazy woman" he hissed in pain

"Guest" she repeated "Neela ma didnt say anything about guests"
"Im your new bodyguard Neil Khanna"
Avni waggled her index finger "You dont fool me Khanna, I dont have a bodyguard coming"
"Yes, you do" said Neela who sat Neil down on Avni's bed
"Im sorry I didnt get the chance to tell you but it just happened so quickly, Neil why is your head bleeding"
Avni's cheeks burnt and she looked away
Neil looked up "I tripped and banged my head aunty"
Neela nodded and began to clean the cut on his head

"You two get acquainted im just making breakfast"
Neela left the two together and Neil smirked, looking her up and down "Nice pyjamas, they go well with your personality"
Avni scowled "Whats that meant to mean"
"Youre quackers"
"Well you shouldnt have just stood outside my door like that and why did you cover for me" she huffed angrily
Neil noted how her eyes lit up when she was angry, her cheeks flushed and she bit into her bottom lip

"Because now you owe me" he stood up, making her step back until her back hit the wall and she muttered an "ouch" under her breath
"Owe you"
"Yes, thats right, but ill tell you soon what you owe me, also, nice pyjamas, theyre really great for a five year old"
Avni glared at him and pushed him away "Well I wasnt expecting company"
Neil smiled "No, I can tell, I dont think youd be good company anyway"
She still seemed so immature, her actions and how she dressed yet she had a certain charm to her and he was sure he would enjoy winding her up

Avni went to grab some clothes from the wardrobe, she huffed, she didnt want to look anymore like a child infront of her judgy bodyguard
She could feel his eyes piercing into her back
"Take a picture it lasts longer" she turned around and her jaw dropped
She covered her eyes quickly "Oh my, you're naked"
Neil chuckled "Not naked, topless, why does it bother you"
"Just get out" Avni growled
"Why, my hotness to much for you to take"
She shoved past him and to the bathroom, stopping she turned back to him "No but its going to put me off my food"
She slammed the door leaving a very shocked Neil

Neela looked over at Avni and Neil who ate their breakfast, neither had said anything and she just hoped they hadnt fallen out because she expected Neil would be here for a while
Avni went to grab the salt when Neil grabbed it, using it for ages
Avni raised her foot and kicked Neil
"Shit" he groaned
Avni smirked and looked down
"Sorry" he turned to Neela smiling "to much salt"
Neil stretched out his leg and kicked Avni back

"You stupid" she stood up, banging her hands on the table then looked back at Neela who wore a questioning look on her face
Neil bit into his cheek to stop himself from laughing
Avni sat back down and finished her breakfast, she stood up, taking her plate out she stopped by Neil
"Youll pay for that Khanna" she hissed
And carried on walking away to the kitchen

Avni was reading a magazine, she looked up at Neil stood up near her
"You know you can sit down, I won't bite"
Neil sat on the sofa next to her and peered over her shoulder at the magazine she was reading
"Do you mind"
"No, not really"
"You are the most infuriating man I have ever met" she spoke, exasperated
Neil put his hand on his chest "Thank you, thats honestly the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me"
"Thats honestly the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me" she mimicked, rolling her eyes

"You really are the most childish person I have ever met" he responded, glaring down at her
Avni stood up, walking off grumpily she got to her room, about to slam the door when Neil put his hand on the door
"I have to keep an eye on you the whole time"
Avni allowed him to come in and sat on her bed
Neil opened his file, looking through it
Avni looked down at the file on her bed
Memories resurfacing in her head, she cleared her throat and looked away
"So, do you have any ideas why your mother was killed"

"Maybe it had something to do with the necklace she gave me but I cant be sure"
Neil nodded "can I see it"
Avni sat closer to Neil, his fingers brushed against her collar bone as he picked up the necklace
It looked to be a quite expensive necklace, a dark red ruby sat in a cold circle
"Maybe we can get this checked by a jeweller, see how much its worth, because money is usually a huge motive behind these things"
He let her necklace drop back to her neck and stood up "Come on, lets go"

A fifty something old man stood behind a counter, he held a magnifying glass up to the ruby
He looked back up "where did you get this"
"My mother gave it to me"
The man checked through the record book and sighed "A man called Reyansh bought it a good eighteen years ago, got it specially made"
"Did he say anything about gifting it to anyone" asked Neil
The man shook his head "Not that I recall"
Neil hummed "Would you possibly have the security footage of that moment"
The man nodded and went to find it

Neil turned back to Avni, "You alright"
Avni turned to look out of the store window "I guess, its just weird coming back to this village after all those years, I avoided it like the plague because it hurt to much"
Neil nodded in understanding "Maybe this is what you needed, sometimes we have to confront our demons head on"
"I found it" the jeweller spoke
"Can we play it here" Avni asked
"Yeah of course, just follow me around"
Avni stood as the man put the video in, he forwarded it then pressed play

"Thats him"
Avni furrowed her brows "I dont recognise him"
Neil picked up his phone "Hi Sir, a man called Reyansh bought Avni's necklace a good eighteen years back from the jewellers in their village, do you have anything on him"
Neil heard some rustling before a "Nope, nothing, we couldn't find him to ever question him so it was a dead end"
Neil sighed heavily "Okay thanks sir, were going to go and see if we can look at the house, maybe get a clue there, ill send you a picture to do facial recognition"

Avni and Neil thanked the man and negan the walk to Ayesha's old house
"So were really going to see the house" Avni asked
Neil nodded "We have to start somewhere"
Avni stopped outside the house, she grabbed Neil's hand, stopping him from moving "Im scared Khanna, really scared"
Neil blanched, he was never sure how to comfort someone who was sad
"Uh, theres no monsters in there, dont worry" he said, tapping her head
Avni scowled up at him "Im not a child, I dont fear fake monsters"

She took a deep breath before picking up a key from under a stone and unlocking the door
"How come no one has bought this house"
Avni cleared her throat "Its a small village, they think the house is cursed"
She pushed the door open and switched the light on
She stopped at the blood stain on the floor by the sofa, she wretched and turned around
Neil held out a peg and she took it, putting it on her nose
"Also, can you put these gloves on so we dont destroy any evidence"
Avni slipped them on and searched around the house

Avni yanked at a stuck drawer and looked through the letters
"Theres nothing here, ill go and check her room"
Avni stopped outside Ayesha's room, unable to go in
Neil looked up at her and stood behind her, his hand pushing at the bottom of her back
"Go on in, im here every step of the way"
She stepped forward, the bed was still made, the room a little dusty but still looked the same
She opened the wardrobe, her eyes teary as she looked at her mothers clothes
She looked below the clothes and found a diary, searching through it she stopped

"Look, his name is in here, she said she hoped to see him again"
Neil looked over her shoulder
"This is good evidence, is there anything else"
Avni turned the page and a picture fell out
Avni picked it up, it was a picture of Ayesha and Reyansh
"They look so close in this picture, if he bought that necklace for her, why kill her" Avni sighed
"Im not sure, but we will find out, we just have to find him"
Avni continued flicking through, her heart stopped and she read aloud
"Im in love and I finally think ive found the right man for Avni and I"

Avni sat the diary down "She loved him, she loved him and she died before she could tell him, look at the date, it was the morning of the day she died"
Avni stood up, she felt sick
"Avni, I think you should sit down"
"Dont tell me to sit down" she shouted
"I dont want to sit down, my mother is dead and the only link to her death is a man thats been a no show for fifteen years"
Her throat burned from her shouting and she looked away
"Get me out of here Khanna please"
Neil nodded and escorted her out when his eyes spotted something

He bent down and picked up a man's t-shirt and held it up
"Ill get it sent for DNA"
Avni nodded and stood outside, resting against the wall, she closed her eyes as Neil walked the ten minute walk to the car, she tried to catch her breath
She heard the loud music from a car nearby and assumed it was Neil ready to pick her up and leave
She took one last breath, holding onto the wall she whispered one last goodbye and opened her eyes to see an older man infront of her

He grabbed her wrist, spinning her around so her back hit his chest
"Who are you and what are you doing here"
"Get off of me" she struggled in his hold
The man raised a muddy hand to her mouth
"Who are you girl and what are you doing here, I wont ask again"
"Hey" Neil shouted "Let her go"
The man laughed "You gonna tell me who she is and what shes doing here"
"She's Ayesha's daughter" Neil responded
The man immediatley let her go "Avni, after all these years you came back"

His eyes filled with tears and he raised a hand to touch her then pulled it back
"Youve grown so much, look just like her, I didnt think id ever see you again"
Neil pulled Avni back "And just who are you"
"Im Ayesha's brother Abbas"
Avni's eyes lit with recognition "Mamoo"
She stepped forward and hugged him
"What happened to you"
He shook his head "They took everything from me, everything I had"
"Who" Avni enquired
"The Garewal's, after she died, they went mad, ruined all our business and ruined us, theres nothing you can do to fend for yourself when youre a poor man and the enemy is rich men"

Neil turned to Avni "Any chance Reyansh is a Garewal"
Avni nodded "Its a possibility" then turned to Abbas "Mamoo, do you know anything about Reyansh"
He gulped and shook his head "Oh look at the time, I have to go"
"Mamoo wait, please" Avni begged
He stopped "Im sorry dear, take care of yourself"
With that he ran away
