For those who are uninitiated (those under the age of 30, LOL) the movie Lethal Weapon came out in the late 80's, and though I didn't see it then, I watched part 3 and 4 and later watched 1 and 2. (which are all really good by the way, highly recommend it). The story is based on a Cop who is also a grieving widower who was struggling to get over his wife's death. (a little bit like Arjun Rawthe from Arjun. I think Arjun was loosely based on Riggs).
The basic plot is that Martin Riggs from Narcotics (Mel Gibson) gets transferred to LAPD Homicide and has to work with Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover). Roger is a very stable guy, and Rigg's gets partnered with him coz after the death of his wife in a car accident 3 years prior, he has gone off the rails, he is suicidal and he takes his anger and aggression out on suspects. He does so many dare devil stunts, and doesn't care if he lives or dies. His superiors partner him with Murtaugh to basically keep him in check.
Even if not the same, I think it's possible they will model Neil after Avni's death to someone like Rigg's. After I gave it some thought I came to the conclusion that it may be better to show Neil unhinged than Neil the way he was when we first saw him. Yes he had been through a tragedy, but he was not defeated. In fact, his life was on track. He had become an ACP. His life had purpose, and he had even consented to an arranged marriage. How much more "sorted can a guy be? J
But this Neil we see after Avni HAS to be "Not sorted and someone with a death wish, or more accurately someone who doesn't care if he lives or dies. I know that sounds so "Un-Neil but I think that IS what we need to see. We need to see someone who changed coz he lost Avni. Remember how he broke the law and became a vigilante to save Avni from Vidyut? Well the same applies here too. He goes off the rails, leaves the police, becomes a stuntman / bodyguard and probably does a lot of daredevil things. If I was Hegede, I would take the opportunity to present Neil like we never saw him before. This guy Karan Kapoor will be seen Hero worshipping this Badass version of Neil. If THIS is what they show, I am all game.
Ending my little spiel with a quote from my favourite Indian Cop to date (till I saw Neil) but he's still in my Top 2.
