Confession: I am one of those who digs dark knights. Not those manhandling, abusive, let-me-unload-my-angst-on-you kind of heroes of Mills and boons inspired serials but genuinely dark shaded ones.
Stunningly grey shaded Knights you know are wrong but still you end up rooting for them for their fascinating shades.

and then comes in Neil Khanna.
an honest to goodness good guy. Did i say good? make that GREAT guy.
endearingly real guy.

a cop who will go all out to nail a criminal yet a nice guy who will apologize if that criminal turns out to be innocent at that moment. and to top the rare act of a hero apologizing to a girl... he gifts her a punching bag imprinted with his own face. how adorable is that!
a fiance who will stand by the girl no matter what.
a guy torn into two with new found intense emotions for a mystery of a girl yet wanting to stand by the girl he is betrothed to for it is right thing to do.
maa da laadla who indulges him dragon mom yet won't shy away from whopping her sorry butt if she errs tad too much.
a dutiful son who shares a friendly bond with his father.. yet will let him know when he is wrong.
a loving grandson who knows and is tolerant towards idiosyncrasies of his grandmother yet won't back off if it comes to take the fight head on when she is in the wrong.
and then a soulmate will take on heaven and hell for the girl he loves. no matter how impossible the girl is.. he will love her regardless. not despite her faults but with all her flaws and faultlines.
(and the bonus part to the dream package is.. he actually has a job and works and is bloody good in his job. In tele world that makes him as rare as proverbial unicorn. how awesome is that. gee.)

When the norm of fantasies is good girl making an honest good boys out of the bad news boys of the town... a rarest of rarity of good guy standing by his flawed girl; chipping away at the thorny walls she has built around her with patience, indulgence and love.

no matter how twisted the twist is.. a guy who evokes the faith in you. Neil sab kuch thik kar dega.
a guy you can trust to make things all right.

it is easy to love a guy... (or a girl for that matter). it takes a special one; a rare one; an extraordinary one to make you fall in trust with him.

Neil is that guy.

You can call him a dream guy. yet the amazingly surprising thing is.. you can see that one special man in your life.. be it a king of a dad who treats you like princess, a protector of a brother, a gem of a friend, a sweetheart of a soulmate... and say.. hey Neil feels real like them.

Endearing real.

So as someone who always rooted for dark knights.. i would say.. Neil Khanna.. you are that one glorious white knight in shining armour that every girl needs and deserves in her real life.

This is a perfect sum of Neil's character. He is actually perfect and the kind of guy any girl would want to be with.

Well written 😳 ... there are lots of handsome heroes in our telly world ... but more are with grey shades ... that makes our tillu to stand out from others ...

This is a beautifully written and descriptive post. Love how you put neil's character into words. Neil truly is a well-written character unlike other male characters. Every show nowadays consists of goody-two-shoes women making good boys out of bad boys like you said, but here we have a righteous, honest and good male lead who ignores the faults and flaws of the female lead and tries to bring out the hidden goodness in her, including stopping her from falling into the deep end and pulling her out before she can do herself or anybody else any damage, by then showing her the light and how the way she thinks and deals with problems is not the best resolve. He is a guide for the girl who will not allow her to falter or tread down a dark path. He does what he can to restore her faith in love and humanity. He is a rare gem among a see of male misogynist characters and man-handling, abusive and brooding male leads who treat women like doormats. Neil is an honourable man. A man of principles.

Amazing post! I could not have said it better! Yes we are so used to the good girl makes bad boy good, or good girl makes player a lover type stories. But rarely do you see, Good boy makes a flawed and thorny girl fall hard for him. Well this is THAT story. Avni may not know it, but Neil has turned her from a girl who never trusted men or never wanted to love one, into his deewani. That is the reason this girl is staying away from Neil, because she is crazy about him. She cant see him in any pain, and she thinks SHE gives him pain. It hurts her to stay away from him but she will. Way to make a girl who didn't believe in love fall madly in love. That is Neil Khanna. (Now only if this girl realizes her feelings are love we are in business). But that is yet another topic.

I started watching Indian TV 6 years ago, as a non-Indian viewer. I started with IPK, with a dark hero. I followed a few different shows with different male leads, but none ever matched up to the standard of Neil Khanna. I am truly in awe of him and in awe of the makers of this show for writing a guy like Neil and making him so sexy as hell and everyone's dream man, when everywhere you look you get rude men who don't know their own mind taking the helm. Neil Khanna has set the gold standard for male leads on Indian TV now. A guy who actually has a job and does it, while still having time to be with his family and romance the girl too. Now that is a fully fledged life he is living. Very rarely will you see that!

Yes Neil is a white knight but he can have dark shades sometimes. Like how he gets so single minded in his pursuit of truth and justice and so called "criminals" sometimes he bends the rules. Like he did with Avni who was not really a true criminal but he suspected she was. Well, she is a thief. He reminded me of Inspector Jervais of Les Miserables who was so single minded in his pursuit of a criminal. But unlike Jervais, Neil did keep some perspective. But I loved that aspect of his personality. He did play Avni at one point just so he can find out what she is up to. It's almost impossible to fool Neil Khanna but in a few instances, Avni did. His intelligence is the BEST feature of Neil. He always uses his brains and does not rely on hearsay and make baseless accusations. The only time he really lost his cool and accused Avni was during the Rhea and drugged Neil photo scandal and after the wedding when he realized Avni was the bride. Even then he showed some restraint.

Yes Neil seems like an "ideal" man, but he does remind you of those "Great" guys in your life who always stood by you. Be it your Dad, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, or your soulmate. Whoever that may be, Neil is like those guys. So he is not a fantastic guy by any means. He is the guy everyone wishes they had in their lives and some of us are lucky enough to have our own Neil. I am SO glad that Neil has broken the trend of the "Jerk Hero" on Indian TV, and established the standard of the "Smart Hero". Men don't have to be jerks to be hot. Neil Khanna proves that! Neil is hotter than ANY of the other male leads on Indian TV right now. He just brought sexy back and he did it being a nice guy. Neil Khanna proves good boys don't finish last.
