Ooh interesting food for a Sunday morning ladies. As usual M is awesome in her analysis and Azalea, your insomniac rambling is good. Hope we get more of that 😆 even though inadequate sleep sucks.
What attracted me to this story was how instant their chemistry/connect was. Like no time waste in faltoo ka attitude tashan or bickering, nothing Ott. And yet it was dramatic...a classic jungle mein raat bitana track where they got to know each other a bit and later kept bumping into each other. What interesting was we got to see their jungle scene immediately after their individual scenes where we see Neil soaked in rain, then DD Ali Neil scene in Cafe /avni revenge Wala monologue and the beautiful shot from above where she walks past him near a washroom. I don't know if that's what soulmate is supposed to be...Neil didn't see this girl's face, he was looking for a criminal and yet she brushes past him and his expression there, it's like something slipping by and he needs to desperately to hold on, yet he's curious, not going after her, just watching. And the expression wasn't like oh you criminal, maybe it's the criminal...it was attraction or longing for something. It was like he didn't think he needed this but he got this now, and what now? Then she leaves and his face, so disappointed. This is all in a matter of few seconds max. And avni expression when she looks up- probably first smile. A satisfaction to outdo a cop (did she know someone was after her?) Satisfaction to return and take revenge? A "here I go" smile to start her journey? Who knows...but it cake from deep within and though Neil didn't see her face it's like he ached because of it, cause he wasn't there to see. Or maybe I am reading too much into this 😆
Then the jungle track. When Neil just hovers over an unconscious avni, not trying to give mouth to mouth or even touching her, just hovering over her face and his expression was like contemplating, as if trying to figure out. He barely knew her and he was intrigued, and this is where it started. Btw we still don't know why he was near that cliff,my head Canon has always been that it's probably Juhi(and later his) favorite spot and he went there cause of the turmoil he experienced in the first encounter with avni. To clear his head. Ok...then avni woke up and they had a bit bickering, and it's interesting how he just gravitate towards her. They just met and their physical proximity is that of two people who know each other since ages, and it's not a tv trope thingy. It was like his always...even when they were in public like the entire Rhea wedding track, whenever they stand beside each other they looked like a team, a couple rather than two people who barely know each other. He pulls her toward him twice..that snake thingy and the defense lesson he gives which she later use to defend herself. And both the time she's surprised but not really resisting like a girl should be...for all she knew he can be a creep. During the physical defense thing she resist but eventually relaxed, and later during that bonfire she's completely relaxed, letting him tend to her wound, sitting beside her, letting him show a vulnerable side. Even she jokes about her "savior" giving credit to him to save her life. And in that scene, they were sitting so close, he's touching her wound so softly and she's letting him! She probably realized back then this guy is a bit crazy but good man, and she's safe with him. Throughout the bonfire scene Neil the way he looks at her, very open and get trying to figure out this crazy chick who stands on the side of cliff and nearly drowned him, who's impulsive and reckless, and yet there is something about her. He's trying to figure out what.
And then the entire ananya thing. I really really liked those scenes not cause they played each other and the dynamic, cause Neil was so interesting in those scenes. We have seen him interacting with multiple people now- DD, shweta, Prakash, Rhea, dayavanti. DD ges bossing him, pulls his leg, sheet he indulges her, he tolerated Rhea and is respectful to the last two. But he's that and something else with ananya...he teases her (the scene where avni kneels in front of him with ring) and she teases him back and he's self conscious. She's only person who made him feel like that, and he looks like an adorable dork then. Not this police officer seeker of Justice, not a son who's not really want to marry but doing anyway. Just Neil, a normal man. He is highly frustrated with the circumstancial evidence around ananya and is trying to push down the weird feelings and becoming aggressive. The entire chor police dance/party and later he trying to see her locket. And by now avni is getting pissed too. What also interesting is when one of them is angry other is not. Avni was rightly scared about the locket but once he was proved wrong she blasted him, and oh boy I became a fan then. There was this lapse of judgment from Neils side, probably the first time he felt maybe he's wrong and avni started thinking she needs to stay away cause his nosiness may make him a colletoral damage. What made me root for Neil was how he looked apologetic, he knew a line was crossed and she was immensely hurt and her hurt was refelcted on his face. Two scenes- she walking past him when shweta did that drama and later when she helped with Shweta and he takes a deep breath before apologizing only to see she wasn't there. I was sold on him, it's been established he was a good man, just man, but there was a bit of grayness during the party and it was cleared. And of course the next scene, he inviting her to Cafe and gifting that punching bag. There was this grown working man who have a most dangerous career, he has a walking disaster of a mom (whom he repeatedly puts down for her own good) who has endured some trauma in life and basically a well rounded man. And he was nervous to apologise to a girl ! He was stammering and reharshing his apologies and then she walked in, and once again that thing just like their first encounter. He felt it, he just knew . Once again loved the shot where avnis reflection is seen on mirror and she turns and then he turns to face her. The way he looks at her, it's just something else. Can't describe.
Ok this was a rambling which followed nothing, but I just have a lot of feels, okay? 😆
