I really, really need you guys to tell me if you liked it or not, if you want me to write more OS or FF's.
"Here, Avni," Neil says as he puts the mug of coffee in front of her.
"Thank you, Neil," Avni replies quietly.
Neil stops in his movements at Avni's tone of voice.
"Is everything okay? You sound kinda down," Neil inquires, sitting on top of the table and facing Avni.
"I'm fine. Sometimes I just get random waves of headaches." Avni sighs. "I'm used to this, though. It'll pass." She stands from her chair and falters in her steps. She takes a breath and tries to cover it up, but it doesn't go unnoticed by Neil.
"Hey take it easy," Neil says, gently supporting Avni.
"I stood up too fast. I'm just a little dizzy," Avni says, righting herself, avoiding Neil's eyes.
"Avni." Neil tries to make eye contact, and when he does, he squeezes Avni's shoulders slightly. "Look, don't be hard on yourself when you don't have to be. You've got a headache-- don't deny it, I can tell," he says to Avni's weak protests. "So let's ditch the caffeine, and you can drink some herbal tea instead."
Neil chuckles at Avni' look of disbelief. "Yes, Avni, Neil is making you herbal tea. It'll only happen once."
"Thank you," Avni says earnestly.
Neil rolls his eyes.
"Don't thank me, Avni. Go lie down on the couch. Or do you need me to hold your hand?" He teases. Avni gives Neil a 'give me a break' look and walks without Neil's help to the couch.
"Good job," Neil says from the stove.
Avni glares at him and plops down on the cushions.
When Neil comes back with the tea, Avni asks if they can watch Star Wars.
"T.V. isn't really good for a headache, Avni."
"Don't baby me, Neil."
And so they watch Star Wars.
Halfway through the movie, empty tea mug on the floor by the couch, Avni' head starts lolling. Neil notices and says, "Lie down."
Avni looks at him in confusion.
Neil sighs. "Come on, it's not a big deal. You obviously didn't get much sleep. Lie down," he says again, and he guides Avni into a comfortable position, laying her head on Neil's thigh.
"Better?"
"Much. Thank y--"
"Jesus, Avni, enough with the thank you's," Neil says, fighting a smile.
Avni is silent for a moment.
"You have my gratitude," she says smugly.
"Shut up."
The next ten minutes have Neil wondering whether it would be weird if he ran his hands through Avni' hair.
Maybe if he just gently, carefully cards his fingers--
Before he chickens out, Neil softly tugs at a couple strands of Avni' hair, his hand almost shaking.
Avni makes a sound of approval that reminds Neil of a cat.
Neil smiles and plays with Avni' hair gently until he has a sleepin girl lying on his lap.
Neil is almost dozing off himself when he hears Avni murmur, very quietly, "Neil."
"Yeah, Avni?" Neil answers.
Avni doesn't say anything. Shifts in her sleep, then is still again.
Oh. Avni is asleep.
Oh. Avni said Neil's name in her sleep.
Neil tries to slow his heart rate down when he realizes that.
He fails.
