Avni was beyond angry. She was furious.

"Uski himat kaisi hui," she muttered, clenching her jaw, as she put her phone down.

"Kiski, Avni?'' Ali asked as he sat down on the table.

"Woh tumhara sar phira dost, Mr Super Cop, Neil," Avni replied. Neil had messaged her about how Riya wasn't guilty of stealing Shweta's bangles, even though she had showed him proof. Then he had the audacity to tell her to stay out of his matters, and since he's the police officer, he can do the investigating himself.

"Ab kya hua, Avni?" Ali asked, somewhat exasperatedly. Ali loved Avni and Neil, but sometimes their fights were extremely annoying; the way both the parties carried out the fights and handled them. They both shouted at each other, challenged each other, and were stubborn in listening to the other's reason.

Both of them were good at heart, but between Avni's secrets, and Neil's ignorance on the whole matter & policegiri, it seemed impossible for them to ever become friends.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Neil had come to Ananya's house, with a warrant. Of course, he knew Ananya was innocent, that's she hadn't stolen his mom's bangles. But he had to find out Ananya's truth, so this allowed him to investigate Ananya further and confirm that she didn't commit the crime.
At the end of the search, he found nothing, other than a tired Neela and a pissed of Ananya. Neela and Ananya showed him the way out, but Avni stayed at the door as Neela went to back to her room. He could feel Ananya's anger oozing out of her eyes. Neil remained at the front of her step, as DD and the other officers got into the car. He knew if he had left without hearing her speak her mind, she would have gotten angrier and he didn't want that.
"Tum hamesha mujhe hai galt kehta hon," Ananya stated, in an enraged whisper, careful not to let Neela hear.
"Asse nahin hain...,"Neil began.
"Asse hi hain. Riya jab bhi koi galti karti hain, tum hamesha use maaf kar leta hon. Ussne photo keechi mera phone mein, you let her go. Then she lied that it was me who took those photos, par tumne uski baat maani. Tumne truth machine mujh par layi, par usse kuch nahi kiya," Ananya shouted through her whispered tone.
"Ananya, listen.." Neil began again.
"Nahi. Aaj main baat karu gayi aur tum suno ge. Mujhe paata nahi main tumko ye sab puch bi kyun rahi hoon. All police officers are a corrupt. Tab bhi aur aaj bhi,"Ananya all but yelled.
"Ananya, that's not how it is. Meri baat ko suno," Neil started.
"It is like this. Jab main koi choti si bhi galti karti hoon, tum uspe char jata hon. Main toh saas bhi nahi lay sakti without you having some sort of suspicion on me," Ananya countered. "Main tumhari kuch nahi hoon na, tumne mujhe hi galt samajh na hai. Par yaad rakhne, tab bhi Riya ki galti thi, aur aaj bhi Riya ki hi galti hain," Ananya said with a calmer tone, before turning around to close the door.
Neil held onto Ananya's hand. He didn't know how to respond to Ananya's complaints. He didn't know why he stopped Ananya. All he knew was that whatever Ananya was accusing him of wasn't true. A part of him was offended that Ananya thought she was nothing to him. But then again what was she to him. She wasn't his friend. There wasn't enough trust in their relationship. But there wasn't "nothing" between them either. Not after all they had been through.
Ananya struggled to get out of his hold. Looking into her angry eyes, he let go. He watched as Ananya slammed the door to his face. After a few more seconds, he himself went into his car silently. DD and the rest of the officers were quiet, and he was thankful. Because inside his head, he was screaming. Because Ananya was telling the truth. He wasn't the amandaar, true to his values officer he thought he was. Yet at the same time, Ananya was wrong as well. Or maybe he just wanted to her to be wrong. He didn't want to see himself in this light.
But his excuse in his head was that for whatever reason, it mattered to him when Ananya was right or wrong. He didn't want her to be wrong. He needed to know what was going on with her. He needed her to be right and his conscience to be right. He expected more from her than he did with Riya. He just didn't know why.
